The Most Unique Love Scenes – SEISMIC CRIMES by Chrys Fey #TWRP

 

When you write romance there comes a point when the love scenes all start to feel the same. There’s only so many different wordings and descriptions you can do. After a while, you’re struggling to make each new intimate moment different from the previous one between your characters. Or even from another book! Then when you’re a reader on top of that and have read so many romances that also sound alike, you realize you need to be a little—no, a lot—more creative.

I definitely took the creative approach with the love scenes in Seismic Crimes. While my book is steamy and for 18+ audiences, they are not erotic. Beth and Donovan don’t use toys, swings, bondage, role-playing, or any of that stuff. What I did instead was think outside the box of the typical love scenes, such as how and where they could happen. So that’s how I have a monster truck involved in one passionate moment.

This is by far the most unique love scene, but the one my readers all seem to comment on the most involves ice cream:

“I’ll never look at ice cream and chocolate in the same way again.”

 “The well-choreographed, sexy scenes between the two main characters will keep readers turning the pages as much as the chase and fight scenes do. Fey handles each of these intimate scenes amazingly well, setting a high bar for steamy romance writers.”

There are other sexy moments and even these aren’t usual. One happens a few stories high…inside a glass box…Now I’m not going to give away any more details, but I will offer an excerpt from the beginning when they steal a moment in a jail cell.

He laid a finger against her mouth, feeling the velvety softness of her skin. He traced her cheekbones and slid the tip of his finger down the bridge of her delicate nose. Every bit of her, he found beautiful. He bent his head and kissed her forehead, the tip of her nose, and her cheeks. Then he took her sleeping mouth. Beneath him, he could feel Beth awaken. Her lips twitched to life and accepted him. He leisurely explored the inside of her mouth.

Beth’s fingers curled in the thickness of his hair, her hands drew him closer. He slipped a hand between their bodies, sought the heat of her skin. When his palm flattened against her belly, Beth’s body reared up and bumped into his. A gasp flew from her mouth. She untangled her fingers from his hair and pushed him back. Her head turned to the cell next to them.

Donovan looked, too, and saw an officer stretched out on the cot. He glanced at the other cells to see them all occupied. He resisted the urge to groan.

“Your husband is an inconsiderate ass,” Sybil said over dirty martinis after their drive up the mountain. “Why do you put up with it?”

Mom’s still living in Texas, in a little two-bedroom house, with another woman. There’s no room for me and the kids. I guess I could take them to my dad’s—and they can get to know their thirty-year-old step-grandma.”

Sybil laughed. “It would serve him right if you showed up.”

“Yeah,” Eden agreed. “But seriously, I can’t do that to the kids. It would rip their world apart, if I left their father just because I’m . . .”

She paused, searching for the right word.

“Unhappy?” Sybil supplied.

“Not really,” Eden said. “It’s just . . . when I’m not angry with Mitchell I’m bored out of my mind.”

“Even with the campaign in full swing?”

“Especially with that,” Eden said. “It’s nothing I haven’t done before, just on a bigger scale. I don’t think Mitchell can win and he’s spending so much money. At this rate, we’ll never get out of debt.” She blinked back the sudden, hot dart of tears before Sybil could see. “Still no reason to end a marriage.”

“Maybe when the kids are older.”

Eden finished her martini and signaled the bartender for another. “In ten more years, Rosie will be sixteen,” she said. “I’ll be almost forty-five. All the men my age will be looking for a younger woman.”

“So get a younger man. You need a secret boy toy. Be a cougar—it’s all the rage.”

A quick image of Kaleb Stavros flashed through Eden’s mind. “Yeah, right,” she said.

“What about that hot young cook you met at the fundraiser?”

“Chef.”

“Whatever. Did you call him?”

“No point. Mitchell and his campaign need my full attention, twenty-four-seven. Any time I have to myself, I plan to sleep.”

“All the more reason you should have a little som’n-som’n on the side,” Sybil said.

“Oh, come on—you know that’s not me. I may flirt a little here and there, but when it’s time to deliver—I don’t.”

“Well, that’s depressing.”

“Mitchell’s my husband. I took vows, you know. For better or worse—”

“Blah, blah, blah,” Sybil interrupted. “So let’s just forget him, at least for the weekend. Tonight—starting in twenty minutes—full spa treatment followed by hot chocolate in front of the fire. Tomorrow we’ll get your silly antiquing done in the morning and your blasted autumn leaves out of the way in the afternoon, and then little Sybil’s going on the prowl. You can come along and watch.”

The song ended and Edmund grabbed her hand, tugging her toward the nearest hallway. At first, she wanted to protest; call out for her father and defy Edmund’s wishes, but then reason kicked in. She wanted — no, needed — answers. And, she had plenty of questions.

They entered the main wing, and passed two rooms before Edmund opened a door and dragged her inside. Books littered the shelves. The library. A beam of light from a full moon shined through the window, casting Edmund’s features in sharp, contrasting shadows. He leaned against the door and crossed his arms. His eyes narrowed, giving his expression a dark, hard edge. He looked like a devil in this moment. She steeled her shoulders, ready to do battle with him.

Silence grew between them as they both set their postures. Damn Edmund. She wanted to kiss the devil senseless. Thankfully, she still had her wits.

“What are you doing with Jonas Byron?” Edmund’s voice was cold and exact.

“Dancing.” She surprised herself with the ease of her retort.

“Looked more like flirting to me.”

“Jealous?”

A muscle twitched in his jaw. “No.”

“You are a horrible liar.”

“Keira, you can’t trust him.”

She placed her hands on her hips. “Curious, you’re the second man tonight to tell me that.”

“Grayson has your best interests at heart. You need to listen to him.”

“He’s been missing for four years.” She paused, glaring at him. “Like you have. And I thought you weren’t coming back.”

“I’m here now, and I’m not leaving you again.”

She tilted her head and laughed. Oh, yes, he’d leave her again, and she had no intention of letting her heart get broken.

Edmund lunged forward, placed his hands on her waist, and pulled her against the length of his hard, muscled body, trapping her arms between them so her hands rested on his chest. His emerald eyes flamed with desire. Her heart turned over in response. His unique scent, spice and currants, weakened her resolve. As her memories flooded through her mind, her lips ached for his.

“God, Keira, don’t test me like this.”
