Mated with the Cyborg by Cara Bristol (Contest) #Sci-Fi #Romance @Goddessfish
Kai Andros’s orders were simple. Get in. Gather the intel on the terrorist organization. Get out.
Then he met her. Mariska. Beautiful. Innocent. Ignorant of her father’s atrocities. And marked for death.
His orders said nothing about saving her. But he did. He went off-mission.
Can a rogue cyborg outrun both Cyber Operations and the terrorists to save the woman he loves?
Excerpt:
Some might have cheered Mariska’s impending demise. The organization’s brutality had incited a backlash of negative sentiment against all its members. Many espoused the notion that the only good Lamis-Odg was a dead Lamis-Odg.
Kai couldn’t buy into that. Mariska had been no party to the actions of her father or Lamani. She was vulnerable. Innocent. But not stupid or cowardly. In the month spent observing her, her quiet fortitude and inner strength had impressed him. Even before he’d caught the shocking glimpse of her face, he’d been struck by her beautiful eyes. A rich shade of melted caramel, fringed by dark lashes. Expressive in their attempt not to be. She didn’t trust him.
Her wariness pierced him in a way it shouldn’t. She was a person of interest and her emotions shouldn’t impact his decision-making. And in fact, she was wise to be suspicious. Obido had bugged her quarters and employed spybots to keep tabs on her. While Kai wouldn’t intentionally harm her, he would manipulate her to obtain whatever information he could on Lamis-Odg.
The reign of terror had to be stopped. Direct intervention in Mariska fate jeopardized that goal. Doing nothing was the right thing to do. Sacrifices had to be made for the greater good.
Why did he feel like he was no better than Obido?
When they rounded the corner to the gangway entrance two guards—Lamis-Odg, not androids—snapped to attention, weapons drawn. “Halt!” one of them cried.
“It’s okay; he’s with me,” Mariska said.
While one guard leveled his weapon, the other scanned him. “The android is not authorized to board,” the guard said.
“He’s not boarding; he’s loading my luggage. He’ll disembark after he carries it to my stateroom.”
“Negative. He shall remain here.” The guard motioned. “Leave the cases.”
Kai set the bags down, and the sentry scanned them. “Clear,” he announced. He jerked his head at Mariska. “You may take them now.”
She dragged one toward the craft.
“My duty is to serve the daughter of Obido. Allow me to set the bags inside the door. I shall not enter,” Kai said.
The two guards glanced at each other and shrugged. “All right.”
Under armed watch, he deposited both bags inside the portal. There was nothing else he could do. He sought Mariska’s gaze. Don’t go. “Have a safe flight.”
“Thank you.”
She boarded. Kai stomped down the gangway.

End of Year Writing Goals Check #amwriting @melissasnark
I usually do this in January but I figured why not now since I was already thinking about it. I did a mid-year check also.
2015 New Years Writing Goals:
1. Edit and publish Valkyrie’s Vengeance, the expanded book #0 in Loki’s Wolves.
Goal status: accomplished.
2. Finish, edit, and publish Mated Hearts, book #2 in my Mating Games series.
Goal status: on hold. I’m dissatisfied with contractual obligations that require me to offer this to the publisher with first rights of refusal.
3. Finished, edit, and publish Viking Love Slave as a three part series.
Goal status: Now a planned six part series. I’m almost done with a new introduction and 60K has been through a developmental editing round. My goal by the end of the month is to have the first 90K ready to enter another editing round.
4. Finish Hell on High Heels. Edit. Maybe publish.
Goal status: On hold.
5. Complete a first draft of Trickster (no longer the working title of anything.)
Goal status: accomplished. It’s just the book is now 128K and titled Blood Brothers. It’s in editing. Moon Snatcher has about 30K of rough draft done and it’s resting.
6. Wish more than resolution… I’d love to see another novella made into an audiobook.
Goal status: On hold. I’m so not ready to take this on.
7. Miscellaneous accomplishments: I wrote 2 Scifi short stories, participated in three boxed sets, and took steps to get direct onto Apple.

Excerpt:
Restless, she slipped out of bed and put on her robe. A cup of warm milk always settled her nerves. She made her way to the kitchen, but paused next to the table when she spotted Dimitri standing in front of the bay windows. The snow flurries had picked up, and while she always liked watching snow fall, it was Dimitri himself that riveted her. He wore pajama pants, but no shirt. His arms were crossed over his hard, muscular chest. The man was ripped, with taunt muscles along his back. Elise’s heart tripped at the sight of his body, and her fingers ached to explore him. Her core warmed. She swallowed, her harsh, uneven breathing threatening to give her away. What did this man do to her? He threw her equilibrium into madness.
What was he like? Really like? She had seen hints of his protectiveness. He wasn’t afraid to take action. No doubt he could afford anything he wanted. So why was he alone? Was he a player? Lord knew she did not want to entertain that thought. It just might break her heart.
No, she recalled how quiet he had been on the Metro ride to the hotel, how his eyes had glassed over and taken on a distant look. He knew the same loneliness she did.
Elise sighed and raked a hand through her hair. He must have heard her, because he turned. Concern immediately splayed across his face.
“Elise?” His voice was quiet, yet firm. “It’s two-thirty. Are you all right?”
“I had a dream, so I thought I’d warm some milk.”
A sympathetic smile graced his lips as he walked into the kitchen, stood next to her at the table, and pointed to a pot on the stove. “I do the same when I have a dream that unnerves me.” She nipped at her lower lip. They shared the same odd quirk. Could he be any more perfect?
He reached into the cupboard, pulled out a mug, and picked up the pot from the stove, pouring the warm milk into it. She reached out and took the mug from him. His hand passed over hers. The gesture stoked a gently growing fire within her.
“Thank you,” she said.

The Sound of Circumstance by Susan Ann Wall (Contest) @Goddessfish #Romance
Stacie Nightingale doesn’t what the 2.5 million dollars of blood money she’s been awarded as a result of the lawsuit she filed. She also doesn’t want the memories that are flooding her mind, causing her to remember the betrayal that led to her friend’s death and left Stacie with a traumatic brain injury. Neither of those circumstances matter though once her boyfriend Owen Landry proposes to her. She doesn’t want his proposal because of the circumstances that drove him to it. The mysterious woman he seems to be keeping company only fuels her insecurity and doubt. Stacie loves Owen, but with her past continuing to haunt her, she questions if their love is strong enough to survive.
Buy Links:
Excerpt:
Finally, Stacie met his gaze, a fire in her eyes. Her tender caress left his face, her hands tangling in his hair as she pulled him to her mouth. Her kiss was aggressive, giving more than taking, as though she was trying to prove something. Before Owen could register what that something was, she backed him into the living room until the backs of his legs hit the chair. Stacie’s initial push caused him to drop into the chair and without missing a beat, she straddled his lap and ground her body against him. The friction inspired his cock to wake up, but Owen knew what this was. It wasn’t the first time Stacie had tried to use sex to avoid talking about something unpleasant.
He stopped kissing her even though her lips kept moving against his. All the laws of attraction were at work and it was nearly impossible to reverse the momentum, but Owen had never believed sex was a problem solver. As much as he wanted to make Stacie feel better, his instincts told him this wasn’t the way.
“Please don’t stop,” she pleaded.
“Stacie-”
“Owen, please. I need you. Right now, I need you.”
The desperation in her voice cracked his heart. He needed her too, if for no other reason than to remind her how much he loved her, how much she meant to him. Owen’s possessive side also pushed him to stake his claim, but now was not the time for either of them to feed their own insecurities. “Then let me hold you.”
“No. Make love to me,” she whispered, her voice a seductive caress in his ear.
“Baby, that’s not what you’re after.”

C.E. Black

Bear just can’t catch a break.
The woman he loves has a secret. A deep secret, that’s making her keep her friends and family at arm’s length. But the further she pushes Bear away, the more he wants to help. Sometimes, the acts we feel are selfless, end up being the most selfish acts of all.
The government is allowing the Alpha Division to take more control over the case, but it feels like the Division is no closer to finding out who’s behind the deaths of both shifters and humans. Between a horrific crime scene, uncooperative prisoners, and a missing body, things are getting out of control. And Bear’s starting to question if he’s cut out for the job. Does he even belong anymore?
There are more surprises around the corner for the Division. Secrets and lies seem to hit them from every direction. Things not thought possible have become a reality, along with the blow of losing one of their own.

Five #Werewolf Clichés for #Paranormal #Romance @WolfPackReads #humor
It seems inevitable that every author of paranormal fiction encounters certain subgenre stereotypes/tropes during their journey to craft an interesting tale. As an author of werewolf fantasy stories, I’m particularly familiar with those that pertain to wolf shifters and lycanthropes. Here are a few of my favorites:
1. Book title contains the words “Wolf”, “Alpha” or “Moon”. Yes, these words are inexorably linked in the public mind with werewolves so the use of these terms triggers immediate associations. Must authors bow before this stereotype? I guess it depends, especially on whether you can get your book to market fast enough to snatch up one of the few moon titles left that haven’t been wretchedly overused. (Glance left and you’ll see I’ve committed this one myself.)
2. Everyone knows that wolves don’t wear clothing, so your hero is (gasp!) naked after he returns to human. Yet, some authors and television directors don’t want to deal with the inconvenience, so clothing magically appears out of thin air. Personally, I regard this as a missed opportunity for conflict and laughs, and I definitely prefer scenarios where the storyteller addresses the issue.
3. Absolutely every werewolf/lycanthrope author seems to be compelled to crack the old vegetarian/vegan joke. It doesn’t stop with genre fiction. On the popular TV show, GRIMM, the wolfman character, Monroe, is a confirmed vegetarian. I’m not telling anyone not to do it, only to do so with the self-awareness that it simply isn’t original. I prefer a wink and a nod to the cliché. Better yet, straight up tongue-in-cheek mockery of this tired trope.
4. The she-wolf heroine goes into heat instead of following the 30-day estrus cycle of a human. Okay, this can be fun. For romance and erotica fiction, it can be a titillating lead in for a story premise. So, instead of once every six to eight months, why not have your wolf shifter heroine come into heat every 30 days? After all, more is better. Right? Wrong. Be consistent: pick a species and stick to it, lest your reader proclaim “Ugh,” and stop reading.
5. The terms “lone wolf” and “Alpha” are antonyms not synonyms. Wolves are intelligent, sociable animals that typically live in packs. Lone wolves live outside of the pack. The Alpha is the highest ranked individual–or mated pair–of wolves in the pack. Yet I recall reading a blurb that started off “Alpha Bob is literally a lone wolf”. I think I may have exhaled soda through my nose.
What’s the most overused genre cliché you can think of? Leave me a comment and let me know. One randomly chosen commenter will receive a free Kindle ebook of their choice from my published titles.
A Heartwarming #Christmas #Anthology by Anna J. Stewart #Romance
So great to be here at The Snarkology blog! *Muppet flail*. Thank you so much for hosting me today, Melissa.
Anna, welcome to the Snarkology! :=)
How’s everyone doing? Recovered from Thanksgiving yet? Seriously, how many of you are now done with your Christmas shopping? Bah! I’m still neck deep in my to do list for the holiday season (with only 3 weeks until Christmas! How did that happen?).
Besides gearing up for all the jingle belling and lighting of the trees (I have 3 in my house!), I’ve decided to add book launch to the list of things to do. Yeah, I know, totally crazy, right? December is so chock full of lists and parties and, well, sometimes I just need to decompress and relax. To me, there’s nothing better than settling in with a romance, a cup of tea (or cocoa), and losing myself in something…else.
Today marks the release of my first full-length Harlequin Heartwarming romance, THE BAD BOY OF BUTTERFLY HARBOR. I’ve dreamed of writing for Harlequin for so long, I can’t tell you how excited this is for me. Even better? I hit the cover jackpot with this beauty. He’s, er, it’s absolutely perfect and while I love looking at him, writing Luke Saxon’s story was an adventure of its own.
There’s something about a bad boy that jumps out at me; always has. Misunderstood, sometimes their own worst enemies, most of them determined to keep the world at bay to protect themselves (and others). Luke has a little bit of all that going on, but he’s also a man out to redeem himself. Mistakes he made as a teen have haunted him; so much so that he’s done everything he could to try to outrun his past, but when he agrees to return home to Butterfly Harbor and take over as sheriff, things get, well, let’s say they get a bit dicey. Especially when it comes to dealing with Holly Campbell, the woman whose family he very nearly destroyed.
Holly has her own issues (of course she does, it’s a romance!), not the least of which is needing to come to terms with the fact that people are more than their biggest mistakes. She should know, since she’s made enough of them herself. Add in her eight year-old son with a penchant for troublemaking and a town on the verge of complete ruin, she definitely has her hands full. Seems like the perfect time for some romance, right?
There’s never the right time for romance (unless you’re reading of course), which is why I love my job. Writing these stories, putting people together, especially when they have so much going against him, is one of the most challenging and rewarding things I’ve ever done.
So with this book being released, why not add more? Sure, okay!
Last year, my first Harlequin novella was released in the CHRISTMAS, ACTUALLY anthology (with authors Melinda Curtis and Anna Adams). My first foray into novella writing turned to gold with this story. We created Christmas Town, ME, and the Banning siblings, who each find their happily ever after during the holiday season. We enjoyed the process (and the stories) so much, we decided to do it again this year and we brought a bunch more of our Harlequin Heartwarming authors with us! The result? A HEARTWARMING CHRISTMAS, a boxed set of 12 (twelve!) BRAND NEW, interconnected sweet romances that all take place in Christmas Town.
My contribution to the set is BELLS ARE RINGING, a story featuring life-long best friends Sam Collins and Marnie Wright. For Sam, he’s always dreamed of something more with Marnie, but when Marnie announces her plans to leave Christmas Town, Sam realizes he’s running out of time to show Marnie everything she’s always wanted, and needed, is right in front of her. I am so proud to be a part of this collection and who knows…we might be up for doing it again next year. Fingers crossed!
So how about you all? What’s your favorite type of romance? A sweet holiday get together or spending some time with the town bad boy? I don’t think there’s a wrong choice here…and of course there are tons of other fabulous romances to choose from this holiday season.
Thanks so much for stopping by today. And hey, if you’d like to receive an e-copy of BELLS ARE RINGING, leave a comment below. I’d love to hear about your favorite romance reads.
Happy reading!

Excerpt From Chapter 1:
“What’s all that ruckus out there?” Caleb asked his driver.
Roger pulled a stocking cap from his head, mussing his curvy brown hair as if he’d touched a plasma globe, and dropped into the high-backed barrister chair opposite Caleb. He sank into the dark, velvet cushion as if he’d been running for days and said, “The nine ladies dancing have arrived.”
Caleb’s grimace answered him. “It sounds like a flock of cackling hens.”
“Cackling hens? Those were French hens. Three I think.”
“What?”
“Are you with me, Caleb? Three French hens, two turtle doves and a partridge in a pear—”
“Are you singing?” Caleb interrupted him.
Roger chuckled. “Perhaps not very well. The last of the guests have arrived for their holiday package. Christmas has officially begun, my friend. You might as well get into the spirit rather than sitting in here with a look like you’re about to stab someone with a bayonet. Do you want to welcome the last four guests to the chateau or go hide in your happy solitude?”
Caleb made a grumbling sound under his breath as if selecting which topic to respond to. He looked to the fireplace where orange and bright shards of branches gave way to the black and gray outlines of wood that had finished burning. The fire had died; the embers merely had to admit it now to make it so. Caleb stared at the patches of orange, considering the effort necessary to break the tender wood to release the flames still hidden inside. It was easier to allow the embers to slowly give up, to slowly extinguish all hope for rekindling.

Lions, Tigers, and Bears, Oh My! by Gwen Knight @WolfPackReads #Romance
Shapeshifters as a whole are my favorite paranormal breed to write and read about. Part of the appeal is the range in animals with wolves, bears, and dragons seemingly being among the most popular. But what about others? Since I’ve begun publishing in the paranormal world, I’ve seen an assortment of shapeshifters: gorillas, mongooses, even sharks! The werewolves of this world no longer hold a monopoly! So this post today is to find out what your favorites are.
I think werewolves will always maintain that special place in my heart, as seen by my latest publication Reach for the Sky.

Excerpt (from Bleed Me Silicone):
My first memory is of the inside of a cardboard box. The material is gray and slightly rough to the touch. It smells of fluorescent light and ancient canyon floors.
I savor the feeling of being lifted from the shelf – rubbed and jostled against the almost-smooth interior of the box, as I’m carried through the aisles. My new owner places me on the till. The other products and I have talked about this day. Wondered when our time would come. The time to be purchased.
“Would you like a packet for that, ma’am?” the teller asks. I recognize his voice. He does stock-take on Sundays.
“Umm … yes,” says a nervous voice. Nervous, but forgiving. I like her already.
The crinkle-swoosh of plastic competes with the sound of a radio. Sunlight perforates the miniscule holes in the edges of the cardboard that encloses me. I feel warmth for the first time. She drives me home.
The roof of the box opens, and I’m out. In the world. Her face is just as I’d imagined. Elfin and freckled. No frown lines. Her eyes are intense as they follow my instructions.
I tingle at the touch of her fingers. Delicate, careful. Fleshy and warm. Her lips curl into a smile, before she places me at the back of a dark shelf. The other lubes at the store told me this would happen. Life’s not all action for us. But when our owners take us for a night out of the closet, the world comes alive. Or that’s what the other lubes say.
There aren’t many voices in her apartment. I wait patiently at the back of the closet, as the weeks and months pass. Just when I think she’s forgotten me, one warm evening the door of the apartment opens. A man sits on the creaky springs of the bed.
“Are you ready?” His voice is young. Excited.
“Yes,” she says. I know she’s trying not to sound nervous, like she did that day at the store when she purchased me.
And then it begins.
