The Hotel Rodeo in Las Vegas has seen better days, but managing partner Ty Morgan has come up with a way to return it to its former glory. His plan looks promising until the unthinkable happens. Suddenly Ty is working for the boss’s daughter. And hot as she may be, Monica Brandt doesn’t share his vision…
She left a fabulous career and a frustrated fiancé in New York to move to Vegas and save her father’s investment. But now Monica is locking horns with a sexy cowboy-turned-businessman. What does Ty think he can do that she can’t? All she knows is that she doesn’t trust him—or is it herself she doesn’t trust?
The battle lines are drawn. The stakes are high. And the attraction can’t be denied. With chemistry this electric, it may be time to grab life by the horns…

Her gaze was even with his chin, requiring her to crane her neck. She hated the advantage his height gave him. It was the reason she always wore heels—to level the playing field. She was five foot seven. Her stilettos made her close to six feet, which allowed her to stand nose to nose with most men, and even gave her a slight advantage over Evan who was only four inches taller than she was, but Ty had her by half a head.
“The twenty grand you refused?”
“No, the ten I accepted along with the—”
“Okay,” she blurted. “You already called my bluff. I’ll give you the twenty. Half now and the rest in three months. I’m being square with you here, Ty. Let’s make this happen.” She almost groaned as Evan’s favorite words spilled from her mouth. She’d been his protégé for five years. It would probably take as many for the stink to wear off.
Ty cocked his head in thought.
She waited, fighting the urge to tap her heel.
“All right,” he said at last. “I can accept that deal… on the provision that I still have the last word on operations.”
“Absolutely not! I’ll make all the final decisions.”
“That ain’t gonna fly with me, Sugar. Tom let me have free rein. If you want me to stay, you’ve got to let me handle things my way.”
“Equal say,” she countered. “Partners. Just like you and Tom.”
He shook his head. “Tom and I are like-minded but you and me? We’re never going to see eye to eye on anything.”
“Probably not,” she agreed.
“Look, Ms. Brandt, one of us has to wear the pants in this relationship.”
“Wear the pants? What chauvinistic bullshit! I can’t even believe you said that!”
“Told you I’m old fashioned. ‘Sides,” his gazed roved slowly and suggestively down her body, “you look mighty fine in a skirt.”
She fought a ridiculous surge of satisfaction that he’d taken notice. “Don’t you know I could call you out for sexual harassment?”
“Could you now?” He stepped into her space. “Maybe you need a bit of sexual harassment, Ms. Brandt,” his voice was suddenly low and smooth as silk. “As a matter of fact, I think you need a whole lot of it.”
She retreated a step.
He advanced two.
“You see,” he continued, backing her up to the desk, “I was raised in the belief that anything worth doing, is worth doing right.”
His hands came down on the desk, braced on either side of her. His musky masculine sent washed over her, sucking the air out of her lungs. Evan wore outrageously expensive Clive Christian 1872. Ty Morgan wore “pure cowboy” vintage 1982, earthy, tangy, and tantalizing.

MY RECKLESS VALENTINE
Lovestruck Librarians
BY OLIVIA DADE
Blurb
TEMPTATION FROM A TO Z
Library manager Angie Burrowes is in trouble again. Her superiors have never approved of her unconventional methods, but the latest warning is serious—another complaint from the administration or a patron, and she’s fired. With a steamy Valentine’s Day contest to conceal and her career on the line, the last thing Angie needs is a near-accident while driving home. At least, until she meets the tall, dark, and sexy stranger responsible for her very own spicy plot twist…
Straight-laced Grant Peterson has only one thing on his mind: making a good impression as the new Director of Branch Services at the Nice County Public Library. On the eve of his first day, however, a lusty encounter with Angie unleashes a desire unlike any he’s ever known. Their tryst may be one for the record books, but when he learns he’s Angie’s new boss, will Grant need to check out on love?
MY RECKLESS VALENTINE
Lovestruck Librarians
BY OLIVIA DADE
Excerpt
This guy seemed too good to be true. Hot, well-spoken, and sweet . . . There had to be something wrong with him. But what?
Everything about this man is absolutely right, Angie’s instincts insisted. Come on, Burrowes. Gather ye studs while ye may.
She couldn’t trust her own instincts, though. After all, they’d almost gotten her fired earlier today. So before she did what they were screaming for her to do—claim this man before he got away—she needed to address a few key issues.
“What a lovely compliment,” she said. “Grant, do you mind if I ask you a few questions?”
He blinked at her. “I . . . suppose so. Okay.”
“Are you single? And straight?” she asked. “It’s fine if you aren’t straight, by the way. I can admire you in a different way. Like you’re a statue. Or a hot priest. You know, gorgeous but out of reach.”
“Yes. To both questions.” The tips of his ears had turned pink, only adding to his adorability.
“Are you a serial killer? Be honest.”
“Of course not,” he said. “But wouldn’t I say that even if I were?”
“That’s true.” She tapped her chin with her index finger. “I’ll have to hope if you are a murderer, you only hunt other killers.”
“I think those types of murderers are less common than television would have us believe.”
She laughed. “You’re probably right about that.”
“Rest assured that the only danger I pose to you comes in the form of airborne baggage.”
“That’s nice to hear,” she said.
She took a moment to bask in the glory of Grant Peterson, the only man she’d ever interrogated this way. Something about him—his looks, his concern, the hint of shyness—made her breath catch and sent electricity buzzing through her veins. Warmed her, inside and out.
The tiniest bit of dark stubble roughened his cheeks and chin, accentuating his strong jaw. He’d rolled the sleeves of his button-down shirt up to his elbows, exposing hair-dusted forearms and broad hands that seemed strong. Capable. From what she could tell through his clothes, his flat stomach flowed into slim hips and firm thighs. She chose to avoid looking between those thighs. No point in sexually harassing the man—well, not more than she already had—until she knew the answer to her last question.
The man was handsome. No question about that. But Angie had spied other handsome men before and never experienced this sort of instantaneous magnetic draw. Hell, she could barely stop from plastering herself to his side like an iron filing.
So maybe she wasn’t responding to his handsomeness. At least, not entirely. Maybe what tempted her most was the aura of innocence surrounding him. With those dark curls, clear blue eyes, and pale skin, he looked like a grown-up choirboy. Like a man who’d chosen the right path—the reasonable, honorable one—his entire life.
She couldn’t help it. She wanted to debauch him.
While I was growing up, my mother kept a stack of books hidden in her closet. She told me I couldn’t read them. So, naturally, whenever she left me alone for any length of time, I took them out and flipped through them. Those books raised quite a few questions in my prepubescent brain. Namely: 1) Why were there so many pirates? 2) Where did all the throbbing come from? 3) What was a “manhood”? 4) And why did the hero and heroine seem overcome by images of waves and fireworks every few pages, especially after an episode of mysterious throbbing in the hero’s manhood?
Thirty or so years later, I have a few answers. 1) Because my mom apparently fancied pirates at that time. Now she hoards romances involving cowboys and babies. If a book cover features a shirtless man in a Stetson cradling an infant, her ovaries basically explode and her credit card emerges. I have a similar reaction to romances involving spinsters, governesses, and librarians. 2) His manhood. Also, her womanhood. 3) It’s his “hard length,” sometimes compared in terms of rigidity to iron. I prefer to use other names for it in my own writing. However, I am not picky when it comes to descriptions of iron-hard lengths. At least in romances. 4) Because explaining how an orgasm feels can prove difficult. Or maybe the couples all had sex on New Year’s Eve at Cancun.
During those thirty years, I accomplished a few things. I graduated from Wake Forest University and earned my M.A. in American History from the University of Wisconsin-Madison. I worked at a variety of jobs that required me to bury my bawdiness and potty mouth under a demure exterior: costumed interpreter at Colonial Williamsburg, high school teacher, and librarian. But I always, always read romances. Funny, filthy, sweet–it didn’t matter. I loved them all.
Now I’m writing my own romances with the encouragement of my husband and daughter. I found a kick-ass agent: Jessica Alvarez from Bookends, LLC. I have my own stack of books in my closet that I’d rather my daughter not read, at least not for a few years. I can swear whenever I want, except around said daughter. And I get to spend all day writing about love and iron-hard lengths.
So thank you, Mom, for perving so hard on pirates during my childhood. I owe you.

Excerpt
I went to bed that night feeling the best I have in a long time. Too bad my mind wasn’t at peace.
“9-1-1 What is your emergency?”
“I just got home and I found my husband lying on the floor. He’s unconscious and his breathing is slow. Please send someone quick!” I yelled into the phone.
Trying to get me to calm down the operator started asking questions until help could arrive.
“Ma’am, does your husband have any medical conditions that would cause him to be like this?”
“No, he has never had any issues. WHAT should I do?”
“Can you check for a pulse? Do you see anything around him that may have caused a reaction? Help is on the way.”
I set the phone down and I tried feeling for a pulse, but could not tell if what I was feeling his or mine… I could still see him breathing and when I turned there it was—an empty pill bottle with a few left scattered by it.
Whimpering I return to the phone, “I—uh—I just found a pill bottle lying by him and there are ANTS crawling out of his MOUTH!”
This was where I woke up. It was always where I woke up when I had this particular dream.
V. Stolte has lived in the Midwest her whole life. She is a stay at home mother of four and has always enjoyed reading and writing. When she is not chasing the kids or the furbabies she also enjoys photography, outdoor stuff, and maybe a bit of reality T.V. but don’t hold that against her. Far From Home is her debut Novella, and she hopes to be able to bring more to you in the future.

UNWANTED GIRL
BY MK SCHILLER
Blurb
When a man loves a woman…
Recovering addict Nick Dorsey finds solace in his regimented life. That is until he meets Shyla Metha. Something about the shy Indian beauty who delivers take-out to his Greenwich Village loft inspires the reclusive writer. And when Shyla reveals her desire to write a book of her own, he agrees to help her. The tale of a young Indian girl growing up against a landscape of brutal choices isn’t Nick’s usual territory, but something about the story, and the beautiful storyteller, draws him in deep.
Shyla is drawn to Nick, but she never imagines falling for him. Like Nick, Shyla hails from a village, too…a rural village in India. They have nothing in common, yet he makes her feel alive for the first time in her life. She is not ready for their journey to end, but the plans she’s made cannot be broken…not even by him. Can they find a way to rewrite the next chapter?
This smoothly written cross-cultural romance, which initially appears uncomplicated, evolves into an in-depth study of strong emotions and underlying motivations. Schiller has a fine talent for describing cultural conflicts, and the characters are multifaceted and endearing. A truly unanticipated turn of events sends the riveting conclusion into overdrive, leaving readers breathless. – Publisher’s Weekly
UNWANTED GIRL
BY MK SCHILLER
Excerpt
“You don’t have any romances.”
Nick chuckled. “Not unless you count my collection of vintage Penthouse magazines.”
“Huh?”
“Never mind, it was a bad joke. I’ve never been a fan of romance. I have hard limits on how far my belief will suspend.”
“That’s a shame. They are my favorites.” She sighed, pulling one of the more colorful books off the shelf. The cover featured a striking man in an army jacket with a bikini-clad blonde in his arms. “You have the Keegan Moon novels, I see. It looks like you have the whole set—The Adventures of Max Montero.” Shyla didn’t know why the blonde needed to wear a bikini when Max was dressed head to toe, especially since the backdrop was a snow-capped mountain, but she guessed it had more to do with sales than plot.
“Have you read them?”
“My roommate’s a big fan. She lent me the first one.”
“What did you think of it?”
She shrugged. “The writing’s good, but I didn’t care for the characters.”
“Why not?”
“They felt one-dimensional. He comes across as a womanizing, self-indulgent fool.”
Nick arched his brow, his lips quirking into a grin. “He’s got his faults, but I wouldn’t describe him that way.”
“As bad as he was, though, the heroine was even worse. She seemed stupid and fake…almost vapid. She was always getting herself into trouble and falling into hot water.” Encouraged by his amused smile, she continued, “And I refer to hot water in the literal sense. The one I read, the girl was suspended from the ceiling over a pot of boiling water until Max Montero swooped in at the last minute.”
“It was acid, and he likes saving beautiful women from danger. What’s wrong with that?”
“She could have saved herself, or better yet, not gotten into the situation. And he…well, he could have been nicer to her in general.”
“Not every hero comes in a one-size-fits-all package, Shyla. Don’t hold back, though. Tell me what you really think.”
“Okay, I will. I can appreciate a different kind of hero, but I’d like one with a functioning set of scruples. In the scheme of things, these books don’t deserve shelf space with the others. They definitely fall into the dime store drivel category.”
“Ouch,” Nick said, pouring himself another drink. “I don’t think you understand the concept of sarcasm.”
She opened and shut her mouth as the realization hit her. “You were joking when you asked me to tell you what I really thought?”
“Yeah, but don’t worry about it.”
“So, what do you do for a living?” she asked, anxious to change the subject. It was possible she’d accidently insulted one of his favorite novelists.
“I’m an author.”
“Have you written anything I might have read?”
“The dime store drivel you’re holding.”
Uh oh.
The drivel in question fell from her hand, as did the water. Shattered glass and liquid marred the gleaming floors. She knelt before her mess.
I am a hopeless romantic in a hopelessly pragmatic world. I have a full time life and two busy teenagers, but in the dark of night, I sit by the warm glow of my computer monitor, and attempt to conjure up passionate heartwarming stories with plenty of humor.
I started imagining stories in my head at a very young age. In fact, I got so good at it that friends asked me to create plots featuring them as the heroine and the object of their affection as the hero. We’d spend hours on the phone while I came up with a series of unrealistic, yet tender events, which led to a satisfying conclusion. You’ve heard of fan fiction… this was friend fiction.
Even with that, it took many years to realize I could produce an actual full-length book that readers would enjoy. I try to make my stories humorous, realistic, with flawed but redeeming characters. I hope you enjoy my stories and always find The Happily Ever After in every endeavor.

A cooking note: A career gal, Linny is not particularly domestic, but when she starts to spend more time with Jack and his son, she takes an online class and learns to cook.
Here is one of Linny’s and my favorite, easy recipes that even kids who are picky eaters seem to like:
CRISPY DIXIE CHICKEN
[Loosely based on Crunchy Onion Chicken recipe on can of French’s French Fried Onions.]
Pre-heat oven to 375 degrees.
Ingredients:
4 skinless chicken breasts
1 1/2 cups fat-free buttermilk or plain non-fat Greek yogurt
1 ½ cups French fried onions
salt and pepper to taste (about a ¼ or 1/8 teaspoon of each)
¾ cup lower sodium chicken broth
Place chicken breasts on cutting board, flatten with a cooking mallet to about an inch in thickness, and set aside.
Put French fried onions in zippered plastic bag on cutting board and mash with kitchen mallet. (fun, right?) Pour mashed French fried onions in a shallow bowl or baking dish.
Put the buttermilk or yogurt in a bowl and add salt and pepper.
Dip the chicken in the buttermilk or yogurt and dredge in French fried onion mash up.
Place coated chicken breasts in a glass cooking dish, cover, and refrigerate for several hours.
Take out of fridge ½ hour before baking and let them rest at room temperature. Add chicken broth. Cover with foil and bake at 375 degrees for 30-45 minutes or until internal temperature of chicken reaches 165 -170 degrees Fahrenheit.
Author note: If you serve this with mashed potatoes and green beans, people will fall in love with you and teen-aged boys will smile and say “please,” “thank you” and “yes, ma’am.”

HEARTSONG
Singing to the Heart Book 2
BY SARA WALTER ELLWOOD
Excerpt
When Micki closed the door, the strong morning sun caught the diamond on her ring finger.
For a moment, the way the light splintered and exploded within the massive gem mesmerized her. The damn thing could blind someone.
“It really is a beautiful ring, isn’t it?” Her mother’s soft voice, coming at her through the open window, jerked her out of the trance.
“Momma, we’ve talked about this.” Micki grasped the edge of the window frame and fisted her free hand. “The marriage is an act so the judge will give us Jesse. Of course, he got me a huge ring. He’s a superstar. The story is that we belong together and decided to get married. You just need to remember not to tell anyone the truth. I still hate Gabe McKenna with a passion, and he hasn’t lost any love for me, either.”
Momma smiled and patted Micki’s hand where it lay on the window edge. “We’d better get going. I can’t wait until everyone sees this on my baby’s hand.”
Micki turned and sighed. She didn’t want her mother to tell her friends the truth about the wedding after the morning service, but her total denial that the wedding was, in fact, a farce proved exhausting.
As she folded her mother’s wheelchair, Gabe’s big Ford pulled up beside her Silverado. When he climbed out of the pickup and headed her way, she didn’t like how her heart sped up and her mouth went dry. He was sin on legs dressed in a pair of tan slacks, a navy polo shirt, and his signature tan Stetson.
Leaning in, he kissed her full on the lips. Against her will, she responded to his soft but firm lips, demanding her to kiss him back.
She immediately stepped away from him and grabbed the folded wheelchair, jerking it toward her with more force than required for the action. This damned lovey-dovey acting was going to drive her crazy. “I wondered where you were.”
“Good morning, sunshine.” He took the chair from her hands. “I was on the phone with my manager. Had to get our engagement announcement out.” Winking, he hoisted the wheelchair onto the back of the truck. “Sorry I’m late.” In that infuriating I’m-in-no-hurry way of his, Gabe leaned against the side of her truck. “I thought we’d talk to Reverend Watson about our wedding. Two of the caterers we spoke to yesterday called back with tentative dates based on their schedules. The soonest either of them could possibly do a small wedding is October thirty-first.”
“Halloween?” She snorted. “Well, that’s definitely appropriate and gonna cost a fortune.”
“Yep.” She wasn’t sure which he was agreeing to. “We have to agree to allow the caterers the right to use our wedding for promotion.”
“Hope the food’s good. The ceremony’s already going to give me indigestion.”

A Jake Carrington Mystery
BY MARIA LANOUETTE
Blurb
A botched missing person’s case.
A nervous mob boss.
Lt. Jake Carrington’s gut tells him Phil Lucci is being cagey—with good reason. Jake can see this case has been mishandled from the beginning. Sloppy police work? Or does Lucci’s hand reach as far as the WPD? It’s Jake’s job to find the answers.
Then Jake meets Kyra Russell, a woman with an unusual job—she runs the local crematory. Despite the heated attraction between them, Jake becomes more and more suspicious of Kyra. Her gambling problem has already cost her a marriage and custody of her son. More than that, she also happens to be friends with Phil Lucci. Kyra assures Jake that it’s just coincidence, but Jake’s experience and his instincts warn him not to believe in chance. Can Kyra be burning bodies for the mob? If she is, what will Jake do about it?
BURN IN HELL
A Jake Carrington Mystery
BY MARIA LANOUETTE
Excerpt
Head hanging down, she sat at her machine and waited for the supervisor to come back—to unlock the machine so she could play again. More than anything, she needed a win. A hand landed on her shoulder, startling her. Jerking away, Kyra turned to see who belonged to the hand.
Crap, not the supervisor. Joe Dillon, not exactly the person I want to see right now.
“Hi, Kyra.”
“Hey, Joe.”
“How’s it going?” Her host sat down next to her.
“Not good,” she whined.
“I’m sorry to hear it. You know you have a payment due soon?”
Double crapola. “Yes, I know.”
“Why don’t you leave the machine for a while? Come have something to eat with me?”
What could he be up to, she wondered?
“Why?”
“Why? Kyra, let’s discuss your loan payment over dinner, explore your options.”
What options? There weren’t any. All week she racked her brain trying to find a solution to the mess. Though a quiet guy, Joe scared her. Deep inside, she understood he could destroy her. Not a person she’d want to cross.
“Kyra? Please, no one’s going to touch your machine. Maybe a break will change your luck?”
“What the hell. I could eat,” Kyra hissed. Something had to change.
“How about a steak?”
“Fine.”
They got up at the same time, bumping into each other. Joe sat back down, let Kyra get up first. He followed her as she headed to the Trenton Steak House. Joe grabbed her arm and pointed to the private elevator that went directly to the entrance of the Whale Room. She looked at him. He smiled.
“What’s up, Joe?”
“I think you need a real break Kyra, so we’ll head up.”
Curiosity got the better of her, but she figured she’d find out what he was up to in good time. Then the fear hit her. Maybe she shouldn’t leave the floor with him. She owed the casino seventy-five thousand dollars. Behind on her payments, she spent three grand tonight trying to win her next payment.
Stupid—how could I be so stupid? I should’ve made a partial payment with the three grand instead of gambling tonight. They wouldn’t beat up her up, would they? Tasting the bile as it violently pushed up from her stomach, scorching a path to her throat. Kyra couldn’t control the tears that flooded into her eyes when she started to choke.
“Are you all right, Kyra?”
“I don’t want to leave the public floor, Joe.” Kyra’s hands shook along with her entire body. Unable to control her voice as it cracked, her mind searching for an escape.
“I have a deal for you, but I can’t discuss it in an open area. We’ll discuss it upstairs, over dinner.” He smiled.
Oh yeah, she thought, the farmer leading the cow to the slaughter. “What kind of deal?”
“We’ll discuss it upstairs,” he repeated firmly.
“You’re not going to break my legs or anything like that. Are you?” she half-heartily joked.
“No such thing, Kyra. Relax.” Now’s the time too really worry, she thought. Just like the “trust me” phrase, it gave her the willies.
* * * *
Joe Dillon studied Kyra as they rode up in the elevator. To look at her, you’d never guess she’d lost control of her life. He liked her curves, her full lips, and the wild, curly red hair. Shorter than he, she stood about five feet four inches—he didn’t like looking up at a woman. Too many women today were taller than him. He looked into her green, green eyes, his mind taking off in all directions. Not now, Joe. Kyra’s not worth the trouble. He knew she had a son—her divorce a by-product of gambling. The boss told him this morning she was losing custody of her son. What woman gambles to the point of losing her child? Joe thought about the deal he’d be offering her, dragging her down even further. He pushed the guilt from his mind. Not my fucking problem. Kyra did this to herself. If I ever caught Camile gambling, I’d break her legs. Joe saw what gambling did to families. Too much heartache for too little reward, he mused.
Joe thought of the deal he’d lay on the table for her—two choices—wondering which one she’d choose. Neither was pleasant. I’m only the messenger. That’s how he justified his work. Blinded by greed, these people put themselves in this position with their gambling addictions.
Meet the Author, Marian Lanouette/Merry Holly …
One of ten children Merry Holly/Marian Lanouette took up writing to explore new and adventurous places. While her friends traveled on planes for vacation, Marian traveled in books. With an overactive imagination she started creating her own characters and stories. Her first book If I Fail, A Jake Carrington Mystery hit the Amazon top two hundred and was followed with Burn in Hell the following winter.
Marian also writes romance under the pseudonym Merry Holly. Her brain child, the Season of Series, includes the following books; Season of Magic Holiday Box Set (2014), Season of Love (2015), Season of Surprises Holiday Box Set (2015) and Season of Thrills mystery/suspense/ thriller box set (2015). Season of Magic hit the Amazon Bestselling list and stayed there for 17 weeks. She plans many more books in the Season of Series.
An avid reader, she discovered her love of mysteries by reading the Daily News as a youngster. Intrigued by the real life crimes, and how the police worked and eventually solved cases, ignited her imagination beyond the ordinary.
Marian has many books planned for Jake Carrington and his crew. The third book in the series Mated for Life will be out in late 2016.
