MAN OF HER DREAMS

Welcome to Ravenwood, Book 1

BY SUE BARR

Blurb

Making it in a man’s world as a home renovation expert is tough, but Lindsay Swanson’s up for the job, leaving no time for family and friends, let alone any kind of social life.

Jared Kane moved to Ravenwood for some much needed peace and quiet to finish his next book, which is hard to do when he’s hired his sexy neighbor to renovate his kitchen.

Then Lindsay overhears Jared talking about her notebook. A notebook wherein she and her BFF – after one too many bad dates and one too many glasses wine – concocted a checklist of the perfect guy. Is Jared the real deal, or has he been molding himself into the man of her dreams to get past her defenses?

MAN OF HER DREAMS

Welcome to Ravenwood, Book 1

BY SUE BARR

Thank you so much for welcoming me to your blog. I’m pretty excited about the release of the first book in my Welcome to Ravenwood series ~ Man of Her Dreams. I wanted to write a strong story where the characters are extremely attracted to one another, and have my female character choose to NOT take it past the bedroom door. That it’s okay to say ‘no’.

“I’ll put this author right up there with Kimberly Krey: good clean writing with some steamy and fun action.”

“This book was such a joy to read. I honestly just wanted to read it and forget about everything else.”

“A few things I liked about this book: no matter how much she gets caught up in passionate kissing, Lindsay never lets it go beyond that…”

EXCERPT

Author’s Note – Some scenes were so much fun to write, and I love the friendship between Lindsay and Tina (also her sister-in-law)…

The whine of a miter saw became louder.

What was he doing now?

Lindsay minimized the application on her computer and swiveled to look out the second story window. Her home office overlooked the new neighbor’s driveway. A neighbor who’d become extremely distracting.

She couldn’t make out his features, with a baseball cap covering his face from her elevated view, but she sure could see his body. At that moment Tina’s ringtone sang out.

“Hello?”

“What’s shakin’ bacon? Still watching Hot Stuff next door?”

Lindsay dropped the curtain as if burned.

“No.” She faced her computer, which had gone into screen saver mode. “I’m at my computer.” She jiggled her mouse and a CAD program popped up, displaying a current renovation.

“You are such a liar. I’ll bet you haven’t touched your mouse until right now.”

Lindsay let go of the mouse. How did Tina always know what she was doing? It was like she had a spy camera in her office.

“I shouldn’t have told you what he was doing.”

“Well, you did and now I want to know more.”

“You’re a married woman. You shouldn’t think this way.”

Tina laughed out loud. “I may be married, but I’m not dead. Besides, I can look at the dessert tray as long as I don’t place an order.” Lindsay imagined Tina’s eyebrows waggling while she spoke. “Come on, woman. Feed my avarice.”

“Avarice?”

“I’m doing crosswords at the doctor’s office while I wait for my appointment. Stop stalling. Give me details. Have you figured out what he’s up to?”

Lindsay stood, and partially concealed by her curtains she watched, as she had for most of the morning. What she saw pushed her pulse into overdrive.

All sweaty in a pair of low-rise Levi’s and scruffy work boots, Hot Stuff grabbed a water bottle and sucked back huge gulps. As his thirst was quenched, her mouth became paradoxically drier. His wide shoulders and hard chest looked as though they’d been sculpted by Michelangelo himself. Twin ropes of muscles carved around six pack abs, causing her heart to trip along a little faster.

“Well?” Tina whispered into the phone.

“He’s finished clearing the backyard.” Lindsay whispered back. “Now he’s cutting lumber, but they’re too short for even a deck.”

“More. Give me more.”

“I don’t know if you’re ready for this. He’s shirtless.”

“You’re killing me,” Tina groaned. “Is he built?”

“Like a Greek god.”

“Noooo…. So unfair. I don’t have any hot neighbors, just acres and acres of corn fields.”

**Author Peek** Interview with Rena Marks

Kiss MeThe Hunter

 **AUTHOR PEEK** Interview with

RENA MARKS!!

 ~~

INTRODUCING…Rena Marks.

Before we get started talking about your writing, tell us a little about yourself, where you’re from, what you do for a living (if you’re not a full-time writer) what hobbies you have, etc. Whatever you’d like to share to introduce yourself.

I’m a full time writer, and I work part-time as a manicurist. My hobbies include belly dancing, and reading. There’s not a lot of time left over for anything else. Writing is definitely full time, including all the learning curve that goes with it.

1. How did you get started writing?

I began writing in 2006 when all my favorite authors were between books. After reading a blog written by Kim Harrison, she suggested joining a writer’s organization. I researched organizations and joined the Romance Writers of America. My local chapter, CRW, provided a lot of learning support for newbies.

2. What genre(s) do you write in and why?

Paranormal. My mind twists that way. I love to create new worlds, and have life work out magically.

3. What do you think about when you’re alone in your car?

I daydream. I may win the lottery and prepare my speech for the media clamoring to know how I did it. Or I may be a singer discovered on American Idol who stuns the world with the haunting tones of my lilting voice. Or I may be contacted by an attorney who tells me a famous person met me when I was younger, was impressed with my character, and decided to leave me tons of money. Sometimes I imagine what I would do if I was driving and witnessed a UFO landing in front of me.

4. What is your favorite part of writing?

Like most authors, when the words flow! I love creating the worlds, developing the characters, and wondering what twists will develop.

5. What is your least favorite part of writing?

Edits. When I’m finished with a story, I want to put it away. I’m sick of it. I hate to have to open it again to clean it up.

6. Pick two celebrities to be your parents. Who would they be and why?

Joss Whedon. I love his brain, and it would be amazing to grow up watching his imagination spin. Also, Sandra Bullock. She can laugh at herself and has a variety of roles she can play. She’s a strong woman who’s even-keeled. The perfect girl next door.

7. Where do you get the ideas for your stories?

I really have no idea. They just start to twist in my head. I’ve tossed ideas for the Stargazer Series with a couple of friends, Helen Hardt and Laurann Dohner. But the actual stories don’t come alive until the writing begins.

8. Tell me about your ideal reader.

I love fast readers, because that’s how I write. Short and to the point. I don’t fluff around. I love a reader who wants a story, who wants to be transported to magical lands. Don’t expect Stephen King’s 900 pages with me. I could write an entire series out of 900 pages, LOL!

9. What is your “go to” routine that helps you get in the mood to write? Special beverage? Music? Etc.

Tea and chocolate, lots of times both. Chai is my favorite, though I’ll take anything. As far as music goes, I’m more than fine with a silent house! Sometimes my best writing comes in the morning. Sometimes it comes in the evening. There’s no rhyme nor reason.

10. Tell us about your next book & when is it being published?

I began a new series called Stargazers. I released the first book – The Hunter – in January. The books are named for the heroes. Book two will be called The Enforcer.

In 1692, a starship carrying volunteers arrives on Earth to a small town called Salem, Massachusetts. The long journey across many light years causes the female inhabitants aboard drastic memory loss. They have no memories of who and what they really were. They are as helpless as newborn lambs.

The goal is to breed with Earthlings in order to prevent their own race from dying out. If it’s successful, years later more Stargazers will be sent to co-exist with the humans on Planet Earth.

But alas—the females are slaughtered.

I’m also writing the sequel to Kiss Me Before I Die.

Afton is taken from her parents and stricken – the term for vampire infection – at the age of three. She is trained to exterminate. Now, twenty five years later, she is the first retired vampire Extinguisher in existence. However, the one that got away still haunts her. When an experiment goes wrong, she’s sent to release the pent-up violence in her system. Instead, she begins to crave the one she has to kill.

FINDING LYLA

Bodyguards of L.A. County #10

BY CATE BEAUMAN

Blurb

Ethan Cooke Security and their bodyguard team return to action in Finding Lyla – book ten in Cate Beauman’s Bodyguards of L.A. County series.

With over 4700 reviews and a 4.3 rating for the entire series, see why the Bodyguards of L.A. County is a multi-award winning series.

Principal Dancer Lyla Markovik-Avery is always on the go. Grueling practices and endless performances rule her busy days—and things are about to get more hectic. Russia is rolling out the red carpet for their beloved star, despite the string of violent terrorist attacks that have rocked the nation.

Bodyguard Collin Michaels’ life is falling apart. His long-time relationship recently ended. He’s trying to start over, but that’s easier said than done. Luckily, Collin has a new assignment on the horizon: keeping a beautiful ballerina safe for the next three weeks.

Collin finds comfort in Lyla’s easy friendship, but that all changes after a night out on the town. Simple feelings become complicated—something Collin can’t afford, especially when tragedy strikes and Collin realizes Lyla’s caught in the middle of a dangerous plot for revenge.

Collin and Lyla are forced to flee. They need to reach the border before it’s too late, but the odds are stacked against them in a country that wants them dead. With time running out, Collin formulates a risky plan that might be their only chance of making it out alive.

New to the series? No problem! Each book in the “Bodyguards” series is a stand-alone title. Although reading the books in order is preferred, it is not necessary. Each title features brand new primary characters and limited overlapping secondary characters. Don’t hesitate to jump right in!

The Inspiration Behind Finding Lyla:

Typically I get my story ideas from crime documentaries or some sort of crime television program, but I can’t say that is the case for Finding Lyla. When I was coming up with ideas for this novel, I knew I wanted to tell a story about a hero that had struggled through some rough times and a heroine that had some unresolved issues of her own, but was soft, strong, and gentle all at the same time. During the summer months, I started paying close attention to the ongoing Russia/US conflict and Lyla and Collin assured me they wanted their story to revolve around an adventure that combined all of these elements together.

The Unofficial Finding Lyla Soundtrack

Music plays a HUGE part in my writing process. I typically listen to Pandora or YouTube while I create my stories and compile a collection of songs that I feel represent my characters or the situations they face as each novel unfolds. It’s a rare occasion that my creativity demands silence (And that’s a good thing. I’m a mother of two boys. Quiet doesn’t exist in my house.). I thought it would be fun to create a list of songs that ‘spoke’ to me while I wrote the Bodyguards of L.A. County series. You can listen to the “soundtrack” for each book on my website www.catebeauman.com.

The soundtrack, of sorts, for Finding Lyla:

Today by Steve Moakler
Beautiful Things by Gungor
Teneferie Sea by Ed Sheeran
Shut Up and Dance by Walk The Moon
Anywhere but Here by Safety Suit
Never Gonna Be Alone by Nickelback
Nirvana by Sam Smith
Don’t Deserve You by Plumb
Unconditionally by Katy Perry
You’re in Love by Taylor Swift
Fight Song by Rachel Platton

FINDING LYLA

Bodyguards of L.A. County #10

BY CATE BEAUMAN

Excerpt

She crossed her legs, the picture of calm, even as her temples began to pound with the sudden headache. “I’ve turned my back on nothing. Dance is personal. My reasons are personal, but I can assure you nothing would make me happier than to see peace restored between the two countries I call home.”

“And you will help with this?”

She frowned. “Help restore peace? Roman, you overestimate my influence.”

“Perhaps you underestimate your power. Are you not Mina Markovik’s daughter? Have you not followed in her footsteps?”

God knows she’d tried. “I will never be my mother.”

“But you are ‘Russia’s Princess.’”

But she wasn’t. The weight on her shoulders grew exponentially—as it did every year when the title she’d never asked for was thrown in her face.

“This comes with great responsibility,” Roman continued, staring at her, clearly waiting for her response.

She consciously relaxed her hands when she realized her knuckles were white. As their gazes held, she swallowed. How was she supposed to tell him she had canceled her plans to travel east? By honoring her father’s requests to stay in New York, she disgraced the woman who’d died giving her life. With an inner sigh, she sat up straighter, remembering that she owed the beautiful woman who perished nearly twenty-five years ago. “I understand my responsibilities. I accept my duties.”

“Russia has heard nothing from you since the tragic bombing in Saint Petersburg almost two weeks ago.”

Another request from her father: to distance herself from the politics of extremists and deadly acts against the Russian Federation. “Of course I’m deeply saddened and disturbed by such a horrible tragedy.”

“Your father wasn’t shy about his condemnation of the attack. He’s quoted as calling them guerrilla tactics that cannot be tolerated by the United States any more than they are the Russian Federation.”

“Yes. My father is very troubled by the violence.”

“Rumor has it your father is discouraging your travels to the Mother Land for fear of your safety.”

Her spine snapped straight at such a clear invasion of her privacy. How could anyone know that? She discussed her personal issues with very few people. “The rumors you hear are wrong.”

“Ambassador Avery hasn’t pressured you into staying home safe and sound in New York?”

“No, he has not.”

“So you won’t be postponing your trip to Russia?”

“No, I will not. I’ll be coming for my three-week holiday as I always do, and I’ll be performing The Markovik Number at the Bolshoi Theater.”

Roman gaped. “You’ll dance The Markovik Number?”

“Yes.”

He edged closer in his seat. “It’s never been seen before. The choreography is unknown to all but a few.”

“Yes,” she repeated.

“This dance is a pas de deux?”

She nodded while her mind raced as she dug herself deeper into her current mess. Not only was she now going to Russia, she was also committing herself to imitating the steps of a true legend. Many had compared her to Mina through the years, but that was nostalgia. No one would ever hold a candle to Mina Markovik on stage.

“Who will you partner with?”

“Sergei Ploeski,” she decided. As soon as word spread, there was no doubt Russia’s best male ballet dancer would be committed to learning the choreography.

Roman’s eyes grew wider. “You will dance with Sergei Ploeski?”

“Mmm. A token of goodwill between two beautiful countries.”

Roman all but rubbed his hands together. “The headlines will be wild. “Ploeski and Markovik-Avery: History.”

“It will be an honor.”

“Your father knows of this?”

“He encouraged me to reach out to Sergei, to bring my mother’s last dance to life during such uncertain times,” she lied without qualm, knowing such a statement would put her father in a positive light.

“This is fantastic, Lyla.”

“I’m excited,” she fibbed again as she struggled not to fidget.

“And your visit at Orphan House Ten, will you still meet with the children?”

“I plan to carry on with my usual schedule.” Which would drive Dad crazy.

“With added security and precautions no doubt.”

She shook her head. “No. You know I don’t use security.”

“Surely your father will insist.”

“My father and I both believe that we must be cautious with the new threats, but we must also live our lives. I plan to carry on in Russia as I always have—drive my own car, walk the streets without being flanked by any sort of protective personnel, eat out with friends and family.”

“You can’t exactly call yourself a normal citizen.”

“Why not?”

“Normal citizens aren’t from the womb of great dancers. Few can call themselves the daughter of an American ambassador.”

“I am both of these things, and I’ve never wanted to be treated any differently than anyone else.”

“There is certainly truth in that, Princess.” Roman shut off his recorder and stood abruptly. “Thank you for sitting down with me.” He bent forward, absently pressing a kiss to Lyla’s cheek. “We’ll catch up when you land in Russia next week. I want an exclusive.”

“Of course,” she muttered, waiting for him to disappear around the corner before she let her head settle against the back of the seat. Closing her eyes, she groaned as she rubbed at the throbbing in her temples. What had she done? Dad was going to lose it when she explained what had just happened. She stood and started back toward her dressing room, not looking forward to the call she was about to make. But there was no turning back now. Every word she’d spoken was on Roman’s handy little tape recorder.

NOTE FROM CATE: I love to cook and bake. As you all know, I also love to tell stories. Often times, as I’m getting to know my characters, I like to think about the foods they might like to eat. Sometimes I go searching for recipes that my heroes and heroines would probably enjoy and find great fun in giving them a try.

In Finding Lyla, Collin and Lyla end up in a few very precarious situations. At one point, they’re on the run in the freezing cold. I thought about foods that might be an option as they try to find a way out of their predicament, and split pea soup came to mind. I’d never had split pea soup before I started telling this tale. For some reason, the idea of peas made into soup kinda grossed me out. I’m so glad I was wrong! Split pea soup has actually turned into quite a family favorite around here. Ina Garten’s version (with a few adaptations of my own) is something everyone in this house happily eats up. I hope you’ll enjoy it too.

PARKER’S SPLIT PEA SOUP

1 cup chopped yellow onion

2 cloves garlic, minced

1/8 cup olive oil

½ dried oregano

1½ teaspoon kosher salt

1 teaspoon ground black pepper

2 cups medium-diced carrots

1 cup medium-diced red boiling potatoes, unpeeled

1 pound dried split green peas

8 cups chicken stock or water

In a stockpot on medium heat, sauté the onions and garlic with the olive oil, oregano, salt, and pepper until the onions are translucent. Add the carrots, potatoes, split peas, and chicken stock. Bring to a boil, then simmer covered for about 40 minutes, or until peas are tender. Simmer twenty minutes more, uncovered. Stir frequently to keep solids from burning to bottom. Serve hot and enjoy!

The room phone rang, making Sloane jump. In LA, she’d had to change all her personal numbers. Not that that had helped. The problem with cops was they could always find you.

With trepidation she picked up. “Hello.”

“How’d it go?” Jake’s reassuring voice came across the other end.

She took a deep breath. “Good. I’m planning to take the job.”

“Wise decision,” he said. “It’ll help get your confidence back. It’s good work, Sloane. People here are appreciative of what we do. You’ll be welcomed with open arms.”

She thought about Maddy and bit back a laugh. “The chief has a vacant apartment. What do you think about me taking it?”

“The place up on Donner Road? It’s perfect.”

She told him how the chief’s brother-in-law would act as landlord to prevent any awkwardness.

“That’ll work,” Jake said. “But, Sloane, Rhys is a fair guy. You don’t have to worry about him.”

“He certainly seems to be in a rush to get me here. Is there something you guys aren’t telling me?”

“Nah. He liked you from the phone interview—likes your résumé too. Most of the candidates we get up here are retirees. Rhys wants young blood.”

“Looks like a lot of cowboys up here, going by all the hats and boots in the Ponderosa this morning. Will I have trouble with the town accepting a female cop?”

Jake laughed. “These are ranching people, not Neanderthals. You’ll do just fine.”

“I’m meeting Connie for lunch tomorrow. What’s her story?”

“She grew up here, started up the department with Rhys, and is a coffee snob—her sister lives in Seattle. She’s an excellent dispatcher, has a smart mouth, and we love her to death. I’m glad you’re having lunch with her. She knows where all the bodies are buried. What are your plans for dinner tomorrow?”

“I haven’t thought that far ahead,” Sloane said.

“Cecilia and I would like to have you over. She’s a marvelous cook and desperately wants to meet you.”

Sloane accepted the invitation and Jake gave her directions to his house before signing off. Instead of going straight to bed, Sloane decided to take a soak in her slipper tub. Since she’d never bathed in one, the charming claw-foot had called to her the first time she’d seen it. Everything about the inn did. It was just so warm and inviting. On her way to the bathroom she swiped her cell off the bed and checked emails. The first one was from her parents, who wanted to know how the trip had gone. All three of her brothers had left texts, demanding the scoop on Nugget.

But it was the last message, marked urgent, that filled her with a deep foreboding, convincing her that the sooner she got out of LA, the better.

Sloane McBride, you can’t hide. We’re coming to get you.

INTO THE FURY

A BOSS, Inc. Novel

BY KAT MARTIN

Blurb

A bodyguard, a bounty hunter, a P.I.—the men of Brodie Operations Security Service, Inc. are down for the job…

Sinners, whores, and sluts beware—your time is at hand: a faceless menace is threatening lingerie models on a cross country tour, and Ethan Brodie is there to defend and protect.

Ethan’s learned the hard way that beauty is no substitute for character. So even though Valentine Hart is one of the most breathtaking women he’s ever seen, he’s keeping his hands off and his eyes open. Or that’s what he tells himself.

Then one of the models is murdered, and the closer Ethan gets to the answers, the closer he finds himself to Valentine—and the hotter the pressure feels. There’s more to Val—more to the other girls—than he could have guessed. But one is keeping a secret that could kill them all.

INTO THE FURY

A BOSS, Inc. Novel

BY KAT MARTIN

CHAPTER ONE

Seattle, Washington

SINNERS, SLUTS, and WHORES BEWARE. Your TIME is at HAND.

Standing next to the long mahogany table in the conference room, Ethan Brodie re-read the note he’d just been handed. Printed on a plain sheet of white paper, the words were typed in different fonts and sizes, all of them in big bold letters.

Fairly old-school for the twenty-first century, Ethan thought. But then, email was a helluva lot easier to trace.

The client, Matthew Carlyle, was Head of Operations for La Belle Lingerie, a retail fashion chain, kind of a knock-off of Victoria’s Secret with slightly less expensive garments. In his mid forties, five-ten, lean and fit, Carlyle had silver-threaded dark brown hair, hazel eyes, and a thin scar that ran close to his ear along his jaw.

The other man in the room was Ethan’s boss, his cousin Ian, owner of Brodie Operations Security Services, Inc.

“I imagine in the lingerie business you get notes like this all the time,” Ethan said to Carlyle.

“We get kooks, all right. Plenty of them.” Carlyle accepted the note Ethan returned. “But a letter like this was mailed to each of our ten top models, sent to them at our flagship store here in Seattle, and the company isn’t happy about it.”

“You talk to the police?”

“Not yet. We’d prefer to handle the problem discreetly, avoid any bad press. That’s why I came to BOSS, Inc. Ian and I have worked together before. I trust him to do the job.”

Ethan turned to his cousin, conservatively dressed in tan slacks and a yellow button-down shirt. While Ian was blond, Ethan was dark-haired, like most of the Brodie men. Both were tall, Ethan taller at six-foot-three. “You have the notes checked for prints?” he asked.

“I did,” Ian said. “Papers were all clean. The letters were mailed out of different post office locations in the area so that led nowhere. Since the models are about to go on tour, Matt’s decided to temporarily beef-up La Belle security, just to be on the safe side.”

“Probably a good idea.” Though Ethan wished someone else was taking the job. The thought of traveling for weeks with a group of air-headed fashion divas was the last thing he wanted. Still, he worked for a living and this was exactly the kind of job he was good at.

Silently communicating his dislike of the assignment, he flicked a hard glance at his cousin, whose blue eyes lit with amusement.

“Ethan’s the best man for the job,” Ian said, not the least repentant. “He’s an ex-cop, worked personal security for some of the top execs in the dot-com business. You can be sure he knows what he’s doing.”

Carlyle nodded. “I read his resume. Looks like he can handle the job.” He returned his attention to Ethan. “Aside from working protection, you’re a private investigator, correct?”

“That’s right. Before I went to work in Seattle, I was a homicide detective on the Dallas police force.”

“Good. I’d really like to find the guy who sent those notes. I’ve got a feeling about this, and I’m not liking it. I’m hoping with your background, you’ll be able to sniff around, talk to the models and the hands backstage. If the guy’s part of the crew, we want him out.”

“I can do that.”

“You’ll need to be discreet. I don’t want people shook-up before we go on tour.”

“Understood.” And he’d rather be busy than standing around waiting for trouble that probably wouldn’t come. With any luck, the most he’d have to worry about was crowd control and a few overzealous fans.

“How many more men do you think you’ll need?” Ian asked Carlyle. Though they’d gone into the conference room, they hadn’t bothered to sit down. The meeting wasn’t going to take that long.

“We’ve hired a couple of guys, but we could use at least one more man with a background in personal protection.”

“That would be Dirk Reynolds,” Ian said. “I’ll talk to him, see if he can take the job.”

Dirk worked freelance for the company, same as Ethan and his brother, Luke, as well as his cousin, Nick. Nick was married. With his little wife pregnant, he preferred to stay close to home.

Luke was on a case. Even if he weren’t, his specialty was bail enforcement, not personal protection. Dirk Reynolds was one of Ethan’s best friends, former Ranger, and a damned good man.

Ethan figured his friend would take the job. The money was extremely good, and since Dirk had just wound up an assignment and was currently looking for something to do, the tour might provide an interesting escape from Seattle.

Ethan thought of the weeks ahead and inwardly groaned. For him, babysitting a bunch of hot-bodied women in scanty underwear would be a twenty-four-hour-a-day headache. He’d had more than his share of trouble with the female sex, still did, and he didn’t want more.

“One thing I need to make clear,” Carlyle said as Ian walked out of the room to call Dirk. “These are some of the most beautiful, sexiest women in the world. They’re every man’s fantasy. That’s the reason La Belle has a strict no-fraternization policy. There’s no way you can do your job if you’re thinking about getting laid. We expect you to be pleasant, but steer clear of anything more than that. You with me so far?”

“Oh, I’m with you.”

“I realize you’re only human, but I need to know you understand and accept our policy. Any breach is grounds for automatic dismissal.”

“All right. One thing you need to know. I wouldn’t accept the job if I thought my dick would get in the way. I admire a beautiful woman, same as any other man. But I’m being paid to do a job and that’s exactly what I’ll do.”

Carlyle seemed relieved. “I hope you’re speaking for your friend, Reynolds, as well.”

“Dirk’s a professional. Beyond that, he’ll have to speak for himself.”

“Okay. Sounds like we understand each other. We’ll be doing dress rehearsals for the rest of the week. Our first show is here in Seattle on Saturday night. Tomorrow morning at the theater, I’ll introduce you and Reynolds to the rest of your team and our ten top models. Just keep in mind what I said.”

Ethan made no reply. If Carlyle knew how much he wasn’t looking forward to meeting a gaggle of vain, self-absorbed females, he would probably do handstands. But actions spoke louder than words. It shouldn’t take the man long to figure out Ethan was off women indefinitely.

His ex-girlfriend, Allison Winfield, had done everything in her power to make sure of that.

***

“Oh, my God. Would you look at the eye-candy that just walked backstage.”

There was awe in her best friend Megan O’Brien’s voice. As Val bent over to fasten the buckle on her strappy high-heel, she tried for a glimpse, but couldn’t actually see who’d just arrived.

Megan kept staring and just kept talking. “You see the one on the left? The guy with the sexy mustache? He looks like he walked out of a biker fantasy. He can knock on my door any time, day or night.” She rolled her eyes. “Especially at night. And the big one on the right turns the words tall, dark, and handsome into an understatement. I think I’m in love.”

Val finally looked up. Two men stood next to Matt Carlyle. One was about six-two, good-looking, with medium brown hair, and a horseshoe mustache that framed his mouth, curved down to his jaw, and made him look like a real badass. A real sexy badass.

But it was the bigger man who snared her attention, at least six-three, with dark brown hair, dark eyes, and a face any red-blooded female would be hard-pressed not to admire. His hair was trimmed cop-short and fit his hard-jawed, handsome face perfectly. The way he filled out his black T-shirt said he was two hundred plus pounds of solid male muscle.

When those dark eyes moved in her direction, skimmed lightly over her frame, an unexpected zing of electricity shot through her body.

“Who are they?” The little jolt of awareness was new to her. Val was too busy for men. Being a La Belle model was difficult and demanding. At the same time, she was taking on-line college courses, getting ready to start a part-time job at the end of the tour and go back to school in the fall to finish her degree in veterinary medicine.

“They’re extra security,” Megan said. “After we got those threatening notes, Matt hired a few more men. The big guy’s heading up an additional team.” Megan sighed. “Those two look yummy enough to eat.”

“You know the rules. No fraternizing with the staff.”

“I know. I don’t usually care, but in this case…”

Val grinned. “Down, girl. Best not to get your thong in a twist. Far as we’re concerned, they’re untouchable.”

“Yeah, more’s the pity.”

Val laughed. She glanced back at the men, saw the bigger man looking the other way and enjoyed a long, unabashedly thorough appraisal. Sometimes pure masculine beauty deserved to be appreciated.

Hearing the voice of Daniel Clemens, the show’s choreographer, along with the light rustle of feminine laughter, reminded her where she was. Pushing the men into a far corner of her mind, Val went back to work on her shoe so she could take her place in the line-up with the rest of the models.

EVITABLE DESTINY

BY IZABELA MONICK

Blurb

Since Chris’s mother died when he was sixteen years old, he has lived for only one goal: seeking revenge on his mother’s ex-lover, Kevin.  Determined not to repeat his mother’s mistake, Chris vows never to fall into love’s seductive, deceptive clutches.

With Kevin’s business teetering on the edge of bankruptcy, Chris senses his chance. He kidnaps Kevin’s stepdaughter, Julia, and sets a ransom—if Kevin cancels a company-saving business deal, then Julia will be returned. The scheme seems perfect—until Chris’s long-suppressed feelings for Julia bubble to the surface.  Julia, meanwhile, proves a resilient captive with a knack for pushing Chris’s buttons, even as her own feelings for her kidnapper become increasingly conflicted.

As the passion between Chris and Julia heats up, other forces come into play. Chris isn’t the only one who wants Julia, nor is he the only one willing to abduct her to satisfy his needs. Julia’s life—and perhaps Chris’s only chance at love—are in danger.

EVITABLE DESTINY

BY IZABELA MONICK

I panicked when I found that I couldn’t move my feet, and then I realized that they were tangled in a soft fabric, the same kind that was covering my shoulders. When I tried again, I was able to pull up my knees, and with them I also pulled up something like a comforter or a thick blanket. This made me think that I was in bed, but I had no idea why and whose bed it was. Confused, I opened my eyes—the room was spinning with unclear shapes, and at the same time a headache kicked in. After struggling to keep my eyes open, I gave up. Darkness gave me relief from the spinning, but the headache intensified. What had happened to me? Did I get so drunk that I couldn’t remember anything? I searched my memory but found nothing that would give me a clue to where I was. The door opened, and a tall brunette in her forties came in with a big smile. Her face looked familiar, but I couldn’t recall where I’d seen her before. What was she so happy about?

“Hello, Julia. Did you sleep well?”

“Where am I and who are you?” I needed immediate answers.

“You’ll learn everything very soon. Right now you need to get ready to meet your host. Go take a shower, and I’ll leave a dress for you on the chair.”

“And why do you think I’ll follow your orders? My head is pounding, and I’m not in the mood to play games with you.”

“Oh, I’m not one to play games. I’m only following my employer’s orders. If you want to meet him, you have to get dressed. You don’t want him to see you with ‘hangover’ written all over your face. You need to refresh yourself a little bit.”

“Why should I care? I don’t even know who he is.”

**Author Peek** Interview with Kat Martin

COVER - Into the Fury 800x

 **AUTHOR PEEK** Interview with

KAT MARTIN!!

 ~~

INTRODUCING….Kat Martin.

Before we get started talking about your writing, tell us a little about yourself, where you’re from, what you do for a living (if you’re not a full-time writer) what hobbies you have, etc.

I’ve been a full time writer for more than 30 years and believe me, it is a full time job! I’m a workaholic, like a lot of other writers. I was born in a tiny town called Tulare in the California Central Valley. I moved to Montana twenty years ago and love living there still. I’m married to a western writer, which makes for some interesting conversations and lots of mutual friends.

1. What genre(s) do you write and why?

I write romantic suspense. Because I love complex plots and sexy heroes.

2. If you were to choose one superpower, what would it be?

A super strong body that could do anything.

3. Do you ever get stuck when you’re writing a book? What do you do to get “unstuck”?

I get stuck a lot. Freaks me out. I research or go somewhere to try to unstick it.

4. What is your least favorite part of writing?

Getting stuck.

5. If we came to your house for dinner, what would you prepare for us?

Probably a big juicy filet, wild rice with mushrooms, and a wonderful salad, all washed down with a rich red wine.

6. What is your typical day like?

I work every day unless I’m traveling. I do social media and email in the morning, then write until 5-6:30.

7. What is most difficult for you to write? Characters, conflict or emotions? Why?

Description and back story are difficult for me. I like dialog and emotion. I like moving the story along at the fastest clip possible.

8. A penguin walks into your office, right now, wearing a sombrero. What does he say to you and why is he here?

Hey, chica. You are lookin’ good! Why don’t we go out and melt a little snow, eh?” He’s just there to play.

9. If you could wave a magic wand, what ill in the world would you solve and why?

I would solve the problems in the Middle East that are rapidly coming to America.

10. Tell us about your next book & when is it being published?

Into the Fury is out January 26.

When Valentine Hart, one of La Belle lingerie’s most beautiful models, receives a death threat, its bodyguard Ethan Brodie’s job to protect her. Throw in murder, mayhem, and copycat killers and you have INTO THE FURY.  It’s a fast paced, action packed romantic suspense I hope you will enjoy.
