Why I haven't blogged for awhile

I haven't blogged for awhile because my mother had an accident last month. We had made a return visit to our hometown of Mentor, Ohio, and were on our way back to Kentucky. We stopped at a rest area off the freeway near Columbus, Ohio, and got out to use the restrooms. Mother slipped and fell on something at the rest area and broke her left hip. The paramedics rushed her to the hospital where she stayed for 3 days, and then she was transferred to a nursing home in Cynthiana, Kentucky. Her condition has gotten worse since she's been there. I go there every day to visit, and we hope and pray that she will recover to the point of coming "home" in another couple of weeks to a month. Needless to say my writing career is on hold, as is everything else in my life right now.

"I'm sorry Dylan called in sick," the girl said hesitatingly and a bit apologetically. "So they sent me to take his place. I hope you're not too disappointed." She reached for his hand. "I'm Alison."

Excerpt from It's A Place For Trees

The young girl gave Will a beckoning smile that took his mind entirely away from the wind turbine disaster. A smile full of warmth and friendship. And her eyes. Eyes that seemed to be pleading to him. Please come with me. "Wanna take a tour?"

WOW! Who was that tall dark-haired girl coming out to meet him? That must be the new camp counselor that Brad was so anxious to meet. Gorgeous! He tore the seat belt off and jumped off the tractor.

Welcome to February!

Welcome to February!! You know what that means. Valentine's Day is right around the corner!! That's right. It's almost Valentine's Day. And if you think a murder mystery is no place for romance, think again! Romance is a part of every Will Nickerson Mystery. In the opening pages of Ranch Park, Will meets the love of his life, the lovely Jenine. His romance with Jenine is not all rosy, however. She is a strong-willed young lady and is determined to accept a job as a teacher in her home state of Florida in the opening pages of It's A Place For Trees. This leaves a heartbroken Will to embark on a cross country road trip, leading him to meet Laurel, a spunky lass. Where it all ends up I'll leave to the reader. Book based in Kentucky

Well I guess I could write a book or maybe a whole series that takes place here, in Kentucky. It'd take some work, figuring it all out, but it's an idea. It could be within the context of the Will Nickerson Mysteries, with Will taking a trip to Kentucky, as he did in Pennsylvania (It's A Place For Trees), or Wyoming (What's Up In Wyoming) or Montana (Mystery Under Montana Skies)??? Or it could be a whole new series??? The jury's out!! But it's definitely an idea. It's a Place for Trees (Will Nickerson Mysteries) by R.L. Anderson

Back Again!!

WOW! I haven't blogged for quite awhile! I've had some personal issues so I haven't written anything since 2016, but hopefully I'll be back at it one of these days. Hopefully soon. I have recently moved from my home state of Ohio to Kentucky, because land is much more affordable here, and the weather is--well--supposedly better. It's been pretty cold and snowy lately and unlike Ohio they do not bother to remove snow and ice from the roads. My goal is to have a working farm that takes tourists. My own "Ranch Park"!! It will, of course, be somewhat smaller than the one described in the book! But it is definitely possible here, in Kentucky!! Stay tuned for updates!! Ranch Park (Will Nickerson Mysteries) by R.L. THE REAL COST OF FREE EBOOKS

Now don’t get me wrong. Some free ebooks are OK. That is as long as they’re things like instruction
manuals, promotional material, textbooks and such. Even classical literature from past centuries, public domain stuff that nobody gets any royalties from anymore. I don’t have any problem with that kinda stuff being given away for free. But contemporary literary authors, whether writing fiction or nonfiction, should not be giving their words away for free. By doing so, they’re doing a disservice to themselves as well as to their fellow authors. Writing is an art. It takes special
talents. It’s a skill that not everybody has, and authors deserve to earn royalties from it. Giving away good contemporary literature in the form of free ebooks cheapens the whole profession of writing. It stifles creativity as it discourages authors from writing. “Why bother writing if I have to give it away for free?” So when you download that free novel on Kindle, think of the consequences. Free ebooks are not really free. Somebody pays the price, and that somebody is the struggling author forced to do other work to make ends meet. My ebooks are all $2.99 (US) on Kindle, Nook and Kobo. They’re worth it, too, if I do say so myself. And if you’re an author, your writing is worth that, too, and maybe more. Maybe lots more. Don’t give it away for nothing.

Free ebooks.
Bad for authors.
