Songs That Enhance the Brie Experience ~ Red Phoenix

Like most authors, I listen to music as I write and am inspired by certain tunes. I thought fans of the Brie Series might enjoy hearing the songs I listened to while creating her story, and what each piece meant to me. Surprisingly, up until Brie #5, I didn't really rely on particular tunes - and then came Brie Practices Her Oral Skills and the music began to have its influence...   Promises by Nero speaks to Brie's angst.She loves Sir and thinks if she can just wait it out they will be together, but their situation is unraveling her young heart.

I totally fell in love with the song Chasing Cars by Snow Patrol. This was the song I used when I wrote the scenes with Tono Nosaka. He is falling hard for Brie, but showing great restraint.

When I heard Spectrum by Zedd I got chills. This song speaks to Sir's inner struggle concerning Brie.
As Headmaster of the training center, he is forced to abide by the rules of the institution even though he is irresistibly drawn to her.

 I sought out a song for Faelan and found it in You are Mine by Mute Math. He is captivated the moment Brie falls in his arms. He is naturally talented, but unaware of his calling until the right person happens along...

Of course there are some hot scenes in Brie, so I often enjoyed the naughtiness of Adam Lambert's For Your Entertainment. You might think this belongs to Marquis Gray but he does not just play, he teaches. ;)
This song is just wicked fun!

The song Falling Slowly by Glen Hansard and Marketa Irglova moved me to tears. This melody carried me away as I wrote the last scene of Brie. The moment she makes her final choice.

Finally, when the story was finished one of my fans shared a song that fully expresses the emotion at of the ending. (Thanks Marla)

A Warning to Indie Authors

Many Companies Want to Take Advantage of Indies

If you are lucky, talented, and/or hardworking you can make a living as an indie author. Right now, because of the eBook explosion, writers who struggled to find a publisher in the past can offer their work to readers. The "big business" of writing has been circumvented. Now readers decide what they like and don't like.

However, there is a money element to it. Companies see the money going to individuals and want a piece of the action. With my last book, Brie Bows to Her Master, I gave out the book for 99 cents for three days as a thank you to my fans before increasing the price. I went online and changed the list price on Amazon to 2.99 knowing that I would get 70% royalties instead of 35% (Amazon's incentive to price higher). That is a huge difference and the reason you see so many eBooks priced 2.99 or more.

What I didn't realize is that Amazon has a box you must check to receive 70%. Trust me, if you price under 2.99 the royalties default to 35%. However, if you increase the price the percentage of royalties suddenly becomes a "choice". Why would any author CHOOSE the lower percentage of royalties? It makes no sense. When I alerted Amazon, I was told they could not reimburse me for the income lost. I am positive I am not the only one who has made this mistake and did not get the incentive they were promised.

Okay, lesson learned.

Don't Settle for Cheap Imitations

Copycats Cheat ReadersBootleg Authors Abound

Ever heard the saying, "Those who can't, teach." *

Well, those who can't write, steal. 

My fans have alerted me to several imposters taking the idea of the Submissive Training Center and attempting to copy it for their own gains. Now, no idea is truly original but when you have enough commonalities between storylines, it becomes painfully obvious that an author is trying to ride on the coattails of another. In my opinion, that is unfair to readers hungry for quality books. You simply cannot write passionate text if you are copying another writer's work.

Another ploy is to use words in a popular title to attract unsuspecting fans. There is a book with Brie in the title. Now, I do not hold a copyright on the name but when the author uses Brie in the title and then tags the poorly written piece of work with my name, I find it offensive. Especially, when fans unknowingly buy the "book" thinking I wrote it.

My advice to readers:  If you read a book that is truly a waste of your time and copies a similar book, take the time to warn other readers. Fellow book lovers will thank you for it.

* BTW I personally disagree with that statement. Go teachers! :)
