Pt. 2 Beyond Speculative Fiction
Expansive Perspective
Are you searching for a fulfilling perspective?
In fiction we can speculate and explore. But is it mere foraging or are we looking to define emergence and process? Having an adventure is fine but we seem to be arriving at choice points. At choice points we are also looking at turning points. Certainly they are more than entertainment and it is my contention that our world social scene is enduring significant choice points. Information technology is exploding and our wor...

A Vision of Women
A Vision of women
Searching for Meaning
Do you have a clear vision of and for women?
There are events and then there are the meaning of the events. The difference is something we would do well to understand. Women are assuming different positions, importance and balance. In some ways the United States may be catching up to the curve. We may well shortly have a woman president. Other nations such as India, Israel, Great Britain and Germany among many others have been led by women.
Now we are...

Psychological Types – Introversion and Extraversion
In his book Psychological Types Carl Jung conceptualized two attitudes of introversion and extraversion. I’ll keep this nontechnical. One way to describe the attitudes is to refer to them as offering a context for how we approach the world. There is no value judgement attached. Each attitude has its own special place and its own annoying attributes as far as people of the other attitude are concerned.
The Introvert
We all know an introvert. They tend to be quiet and not easily engaged. Yes,...

Waves in Human Existence
The image of an ocean beach is always engaging. The movement and the sense of a living planet is essential and stirring. But, as we sense the attitudes of our life we can see that the waves exist everywhere and are compelling.
Sometimes there is talk of the march of history but a march does not describe the essence of the experience of life on our planet. Certainly there is nothing steady and, for that, I am grateful. It is the overlapping waves at so many levels which makes...

The Tragedy of Post Traumatic Stress Disorder
Not the Tragedy You Might Think
Have you ever had a reaction to a painful or terrifying event?
Not all things in our inner life and parts of reality are what we would want. We have an image or images of how things are supposed to be. If we are fortunate these images are not seriously violated. But sometimes they are.
Sometimes life is devastating and devastation can come suddenly in many forms or slowly and insidiously. A terrible storm, a horrifying accident may visit long term consequence...

Speculative Fiction
Establishing a Category
What is your favorite category of fiction?
I’m frustrated. My Gaia’s Majesty Trilogy has come to life. The characters have clarified and paraded before me richly displaying themselves. And I can perceive the forces of the universe which drive them and give life to the future of humankind.
But I have to place this work in what is called a real context. That means, in part, I have to say what type of fiction it is. I can tell you what it is not and run into a road block...

Personality Types – In General
Now The Personality Will Unfold
Truth in Myth
Where have you heard or seen echoes of your personality?
Today I’m going to start the series about personality. The context chosen is the work of C.G. Jung. He was not confined by the European cultures but foraged in the world. He came back with in depth observations some of them refined by his attention to mythology. Why mythology?
Because mythology speaks deeply about who and what we are and reflects our various facets.

Chasing El Chapo
How important did you think El Chapo was?
Stay Tuned!
El Chapo was a celebrity drug lord. In the news constantly, he showed the extent of his power by who he corrupted and how he escaped. A long television program was devoted to his most recent escapades and recapture. At the conclusion of the show I did not feel like celebrating. All I could feel was “what a waste”.
Chasing Illusive Suppliers
Once again we had wasted huge resources chasing a criminal. Year in and year out we spend billions...

Building a Future in the Postcaptilism Era
What do you think will characterize our future?
It Didn’t Work Out As Hoped
Not long ago we had the Arab Spring and the hope that there wold be a graceful resolution for a troubled Middle East. There were other hopes and the world and America seemed to have drawn back from an abyss following the Great Recession.
Yes, the United States has made a good recovery but we seem to have unsettled footing which very much includes a rather surprising and frightening race for the presidency. There are...

Change and Empowerment – Revelations in Fiction
What do you see as the major themes on our planet right now?
Why Write Fiction?
You’d think a clinical psychologist would know why people write fiction. It’s fiction! What’s to ask? Probably a great deal.
The fact is I don’t know why people write fiction but I can speculate. I suppose there are some general reasons which may apply to most art forms. But I’ll save you the meanderings which you might find interesting or not at all interesting. Let me tell you why I think I write fiction.
