It was a flu season like no other. With the H1N1 virus running rampant throughout the country, people lined up in droves to try and attain one of the coveted vaccines. What was not known was the effect this largely untested, rushed to market, inoculation was to have on the unsuspecting throngs. Within days, feverish folk throughout the country convulsed, collapsed, and died, only to be reborn. With a taste for brains, blood, and bodies, these modern-day zombies scoured the lands for their next meal. Overnight the country became a killing ground for the hordes of zombies that ravaged the land.
This is the story of Michael Talbot, his family, and his friends: a band of ordinary people trying to get by in extraordinary times. When disaster strikes, Mike, a self-proclaimed survivalist, does his best to ensure the safety and security of those he cares for. Book one of the Zombie Fallout Trilogy follows our lead character at his self-deprecating, sarcastic best. What he encounters along the way leads him down a long dark road, always skirting the edge of insanity.
Can he keep his family safe? Can he discover the secret behind Tommy's powers? Can he save anyone from the zombie queen? Encircled in a seemingly safe haven called Little Turtle, Mike and his family, together with the remnants of a tattered community, must fight against a relentless, ruthless, unstoppable force. This last bastion of civilization has made its final stand. God help them all.

The Physics and Philosophy of the Bible by James Frederick Ivey, MD
The Physics and Philosophy of the Bible is a book on Christian apologetics that supports the premise that science, Platonic philosophy and history endorse the validity of Christianity. An analysis of the claims of science shows that this discipline is just as much about faith and belief (vs. fact) as is Christian doctrine. Quantum mechanics has rendered atheism obsolete and has provided us with insights concerning the possible nature and origin of the Biblical God. Einstein's Special Theory of Relativity has virtually proved that we all live forever in some kind of timeless state. Quantum observation, a consequence of quantum physics, has provided us with strong evidence that the true God is He of the Bible.
Augustine of Hippo said that he probably would never have been converted were it not for Plato.
Other theses entertained in this volume are that mind is primary in our world, which is the thought of God; that God emanates from The Truth, synonymous with goodness and all that is good for cognitive individuals; that faith is much more than blind belief in Him; and that the history of the Jews provides us with powerful evidence that they are the chosen people of the true God. Christianity is unique among religions in terms of reason, logic, and common sense.

Panama 1914 by Ken Rossignol
PANAMA 1914 IS NOW BOARDING! Ripped from the headlines and original news stories from 100 years ago!
This book is a "must read" prior to taking a cruise through the Panama Canal, as the reader will not only learn the history of this project but will also learn how the canal operates.
Join this great voyage through the history of the Panama Canal, which is, one hundred years after its completion, on the eve of a new chapter in its spectacular history.
From the early explorers, many seeking a critical water connection between two of the world’s great oceans to the determination of the best engineers of America, the BIG DIG finally opened for shipping – you can be on board!
What stood in the way of making this canal a reality?
Dense jungle, bottomless swamps, snakes and wild animals, endless mountain slides, vicious mosquito borne illnesses, hostile Indians, marauding pirates and buccaneers, and jealous colonial-era world powers, just to name a few.
The story of the Panama Canal is told in this book through the original news reports of the day along with great photos of the construction efforts, gripping illustrations and editorial cartoons that appeared in many publications.
In addition, the detailed chronicles of veteran newspaperman Logan Marshall have been restored, edited and abridged by the author. The story told so well one hundred years ago has been newly enhanced, researched and the verbiage brought up to date.
PANAMA 1914 provides the reader with a full understanding of the aborted tries, the competing routes, and the lambasting of President Teddy Roosevelt at the hands of the press as well as interesting anecdotes of history.
For instance: learn about the practice of renting gravesites, much like today’s storage lockers. What happened when the relatives of the deceased failed to pay the rent?
Scotland sent settlers to establish a colony at Panama. What happened? Of eight hundred Chinese workers who arrived to work on the canal and railroad, hundreds committed suicide and all of them either died or left, due to pestilence and turmoil. Why did hundreds of them fling themselves into the ocean?

Within these pages lie kingdoms with castles and princes who fall in love with fair maidens, but make no mistake−this is no fairytale.
His father's kingdom is on the brink of upheaval and at the center of it all is an ordinary girl who could be the key to its undoing. When faced with the ultimate choice, will he choose the girl he's falling in love with or the kingdom he has sworn to protect?
An ordinary girl with an extraordinary past... All she wants is to be free. What she doesn't realize is that freedom comes with a price she can't afford to pay. She's forced to accept the proposal of a prince she despises, even though her heart belongs to someone else... his brother.
Seventeen-year-old Rema lives in a brutal kingdom where travel between regions is forbidden, people are starving, and looking at someone the wrong way can mean death. Nineteen-year-old Darmik is the king's son and Commander of the King's Army. He spends his days roving the island, doing his father's bidding and trying to maintain control over the people.
When a chance encounter throws Rema and Darmik together, they share an instantaneous connection, but any sort of relationship between them is strictly forbidden. Darmik's brother, the Crown Prince, notices Darmik's interest in Rema and, in a calculated, political move, blackmails her. Faced with an impossible choice, Rema is forced to sacrifice her heart in order to save her family.
As Rema is taken to the palace with the Crown Prince, Darmik confronts the growing rumor that a legitimate blood heir to the throne exists and is trying to overthrow Darmik's family. In Darmik's quest to hunt down and kill the threat, he discovers that nothing is as it seems. Locked in the king's castle, Rema finds herself a key player in a massive power struggle. When Darmik shows up, she's not sure if she can trust him. The line between friends, enemies, and loyalty becomes blurred. As truths are unlocked, Rema understands that she just might be the key to finding the rightful heir and restoring peace to the kingdom... if she can manage to stay alive long enough.

The Hobbit: The Battle of the Five Armies

Let me just say first that I loved it! Of course, I loved the first two films also, along with the Lord of the Rings trilogy. So I'm a fan. Big time. The story is phenomenal, the graphics superb, and the effects top notch. The dragon attacks Laketown and even though he's defeated there is still a battle to be fought for the Lonely Mountain and the riches it contains. Thorin has somehow contracted dragon fever where he wants to jealously hoard the gold and acts irrationally for a large part of the movie. But our intrepid hobbit never loses faith and, as we all know, survives the various armies of elves, dwarves, humans, and not one but two armies of orcs and their assorted monsters. The only off note happens at the very end. Peter Jackson, I think in a effort to strive for continuity between the Hobbit films and the Lord of the Rings films, has Legolas's father tell him that he should go look up Strider. Since we know that The Hobbit takes place 60 years prior to the Lord of the Rings, that would make Strider an old man for the Lord of Rings...which we know that while he wasn't terribly young, he wasn't particularly old. But it did sound good and left me with a sense of completion. So go enjoy!

It's been awhile...
Wow! I can't believe it's been almost a year since I posted on my blog. Of course, it has been an absolutely crazy year. Between work and family issues, I've gotten very little writing done. I suppose those are just excuses, though. What it really boils down to is that I don't perform well under stress. If my hair weren't already gray, it would be now after this past year.
So to make up for my poor writing year, I am going to distribute coupons for half-off Silver Knight on Black Friday. My daughter wants to help me promote it, and though I have rarely taken the opportunity to shop on that particular day, we will go out and personally hand out the coupons.
It should be fun...I'm going to keep telling myself that...even perhaps chant it.

Holiday Baking
I have been baking up a storm for Christmas this year. Already I have completed two pumpkin pies, a pumpkin bread cake, and a fruit cake. I'm lovin' it! Now last year, my fruit cake was a complete shambles and nasty to boot. But this year, I have created my own recipe using a combination of recipes. But it has turned out fantastic, so I thought I'd share.
Easy Fruit Cake2 sticks butter
1 cup sugar
5 eggs
3 tablespoons of applesauce
1 tablespoon orange extract
1 tablespoon vanilla extract
1 3/4 cup flour
1/2 teaspoon baking powder
1 2pound tub of Sun Ripe Fruit Cake Mix fruit
Cream butter and sugar.
Add eggs and mix.
Add applesauce and extracts and mix.
Mix flour and baking powder together and then add to butter mixture.
Add fruit and stir.
I used 2 8" round cake pans but you can use bread pans, bundt, cupcake, etc.
Line pan with foil and then spread in batter.
Bake at 250 degrees. Different pans will require different baking times. The 2 round cake pans I used took over an hour. I began checking them at 45 minutes. Done when a toothpick comes out clean.
ENJOY and HAVE A HAPPY HOLIDAY!

Busy Busy
Wow. I just looked at my blog and realized I had not been posting for quite a while. One reason is that I simply didn't notice because I've been swamped with writing, kids, and work...I guess you could call it life. Not to mention I lost the period key off my keyboard and it's really annoying so I only write what I have to. So for the update: I am about two-thirds complete on Silver Dreamer, the final installment in The Silver Series trilogy. My editor is screaming because I'm kinda behind, but I truly am trying to complete it. There is also a book of short stories in the works regarding the different characters in the series. Fun, fun...I can't wait. I have also been substituting at the local schools which has cut into my writing time. The teens there really enjoy my books (so far), and their fresh perspective keeps me wanting to write as well as trying to encourage them to write! Whenever I sub in the In School Suspension room, kids who never get in trouble beg to sit in there with me. I love them all! The kids have gone through various after school activities from football to basketball with a little cheerleading mixed in. When I go to sleep at night, I still feel myself traveling to and from the school! Back and forth, back and forth. *sigh* So that's really it. It doesn't seem like a lot, but the time just flies by. The other day I looked up, blinked, and the year was almost over! And because it does hurry past, make the most of it while you can! I'm certainly trying to.
