New Release Date for “Nothing is an Accident”
It took some thinking and humming and hawing, but I’ve made the decision. While I had originally intended to publish my thriller novel Nothing is an Accident some time during the fall of this year — basically in the next couple of months — as there were certain events in the book that just made it work for 2012; I’ve decided to push off the release until summer 2013. There are a couple of reasons for this:
I’ve recently released my young adult fantasy, Kyra: The First Book of Enchantus, which you can find all about here, and want to give people plenty of chance to discover and read it, as well as promote it myself.
In addition to Kyra, I’ve also released two short story collections, giving readers plenty of my work to enjoy.
If I were to release Nothing is an Accident, then readers wouldn’t get to see anymore of my work for at least a year if not longer, as I don’t have any projects yet reaching the stage of being reading for publication.
Therefore readers can enjoy my two short story collections and Kyra for 2012 and then in the summer of 2013 there will be the big release of Nothing is an Accident. In the meantime I’ll be working on the cover and adding bits and pieces and snippets to the news site for Nothing is an Accident, which can be found here.

Faces of Publishing Penultimate Interview with Lynn Pasquale, Director of Digital Publishing, Prometheus Books
I was planning on putting this post up early this morning, but with GoDaddy deciding to go down for most of the day, there has been a significant delay. But as they say: better late than never.
This is the penultimate Faces of Publishing interview for Bookbanter, with next month’s being the last interview for Bookbanter.
Lynn Pasquale has been with Prometheus Books for over ten years and currently serves as Director of Digital Publishing.
Alex C. Telander: Most important question first: is it ebook, eBook, Ebook, e-book? Is there a definitive nomenclature?
Lynn Pasquale: The answer is all of the above. Various publishing and conversion houses seem to have their own preference on how to write “ebook.” This spelling—ebook—is simply the standard we chose to follow as a press to keep everything consistent.
Alex: How did you end up working in the ebook department?
Lynn: I worked in publicity here for about 8 years and I was ready for a new direction. The timing was such that ebooks were coming onto the scene and the need for a full-time staff member to manage them became apparent. I was ready to take on the challenge, and I am grateful that our president realized the work ethic, brand loyalty, and detail-oriented focus that had served me well in publicity would translate into helping us navigate this new market.

Got moved into our new place over the weekend, but still a ton of organizing and unpacking to be done, so I’m going to be taking this week off from Bookbanter. Writings, posts, interviews, and other things will resume next Monday, September 10.

A Very Minor Setback
Okay, after getting the final proofs back for Kyra, there were still a couple of tiny things that needed fixing, and because I’m a perfectionist and want the book to be absolutely right in every way possible, we’re all going to have to wait a little longer . . . fortunately it’s just one more day. The final proof is off for absolutely final checking and then it will be ready by tomorrow morning to get published and be available for purchase and download. Kyra: The First Book of Enchantus will be available both in a print paperback edition and an ebook.
And now because you’ve all been so patient, here’s another little teaser gift for you, the complete jacket to the book created and designed by the brilliant Ryan Calimlim:

Book Tewaser #9 for “Kyra: The First Book of Enchantus”
August 28th arrives tomorrow; now for a final teaser for you:
“The ocean seemed angry.
While the waves were hypnotizing her with their ferocity, Kyra heard another, far different sound off to her left. It sounded like something with small feet approaching her, trying to remain unheard. Kyra finally plucked up enough courage to turn her head and look.
Her mouth dropped open and she could feel the cold wind running into her mouth and down her throat, drying up her saliva.
There, just ten feet away, stood a seagull, except it wasn’t your ordinary seagull. This one was the size of her dog, Pal, who she was able to ride around on in the house. The giant gull stopped, turned its head sideways, then opened its beak as if to speak.”

Book Teaser #8 for “Kyra the First Book of Enchantus”
August 28th comes ever closer; another teaser for you:
“Doci reached the foot of the throne, with the armrest reaching his chest. But the person’s feet, if he’d been a king, were about half a foot off the floor. He studied the throne, looking closely at it and was able to tell that it was carved from a very strong stone, for it had kept its exact shape for so long, and apart from being covered in dust, the throne was still in amazing condition. Its great size conveyed to Doci a time so very long past, perhaps one that no one knew anything about – not even Jolus the Malignant or Demto. The size spoke of a race of beings before the Enchantans and possibly even before the Mesolans, when there’d been a different kind of people of a great height. There was a headrest at the top of the back of the throne, and judging from its size, these unknown giants had large heads to match their staggering size. How Doci wished he could see one of these people of the past and see just what they were like; to see what life had been like in Aisis Lip way back then.”

Book Teaser #7 for “Kyra: The First Book of Enchantus”
And as August 28th draws closer, here’s another teaser for you:
“She stepped onto the beach, feeling her feet sink and her shoes fill with sand. It felt good; she missed the beach. She could remember being on the beach the day Marie had come to her. She walked to the water’s edge, kneeled down and touched the water. It was icy cold, but refreshing. It looked so much cleaner than the sea back at Huntington Beach. She scooped up a handful and washed her face, wiping away the dregs of sleep. She scooped another handful and sipped a little. It chilled her mouth and cooled her as she swallowed. It tasted just as clear and fresh as it looked.”
