A quick note on apostrophes
Apostrophe abuse appears to be a modern disease. One that threatens to turn into an epidemic. Quite why, Lord knows. Simple apostrophe usage is a doddle to understand.
There are two common instances where you use apostrophes. When something's missing. And when something belongs to someone.
The omission example. You've already seen it.
When something's missing. You've already seen it.
Always something that I have to think about, and probably t...

My tips for keeping warm in winter: from a veteran of freezing houses, wooden floors and big windows.
Reblogged from A GIRL CALLED JACK:
I've had a lot of posts and questions from people recently asking about keeping warm in the winter, and having just dug out my annual (what I call my) 'survival kit', I thought I'd do a quick post about it in case anyone finds it helpful. As with the nature of these posts, I'm sure there will be lots of helpful hints and tips popping up in the comments below as well!

Book Review: Chasing The Storm by Martin Mölsted
About The Book
In 2009 the ship MV Arctic Sea was hijacked in the Baltic Sea. Following intense media scrutiny, Russian commandos seized the ship a month later. Though Russia still claims that the ship carried timber destined for Algeria, many observers assume that the actual cargo was military-related, and that the mission was thwarted by Israeli forces.
But what did really happen?
While in Hamburg, lawyer and former elite soldier, Torgrim Rygg, witnesses the assassination attempt on Marko Mari...

Doing Something You’ve Always Wanted To, But Never Got Around To
For a number of years I lived in Plymouth. On many walks around the town, I’d always wanted to walk to the top of a local landmark – Smeaton’s Tower. I never did manage it. It was either closed, too busy/long a wait, couldn’t afford the entrance fee (I was a broke student for many of those years).
Today I was back in Plymouth, just wandering around like the old days. In addition to the Tower, ther is now also a “big-wheel”

And consequently a choice of high things to go on.
Smeaton’s Tower howeve...

In Search of the Cirl Bunting
I’ve been walking a section of the South West Coastal Path this morning in search of the rare . No luck so far, although I’m pretty sure that I heard them. I’ll be going back for another try.

Wilson’s Story – A New Life Begins
I got used to mynew life really quickly and actually quite liked the cage that I had to sleep in, particularly because it had lots of toys, blankets and cushions and so was really comfortable.
In fact I spent lots of time in there, even when it wasn’t time to sleep, although I did a lot of that too!
Alan and Ann said that I grew really fast, and was a quick learner, particularly when it came to becoming trained in the house.
I still wasn’t allowed outside of the house and had to go and see someo...

Allotment Video Update 6th July 2013
The allotment so far this year has been about a very wet winter (which saw the demise of my early onion sets), and then very cold nights and late frosts. I think we’ve had cold nights well into June, which has made it really difficult to get plants established, and there hasn’t really been much to show, until now at least.
