Sneak Peek #3 – Trapped In Shadow – Coming April 25, 2016
Sneak Peek #3:
There’s nothing like an imminent assassination to kill the mood. Hugh watched Stacey pace in Raven’s office. He leaned against the wall, his arms crossed over his chest. She’d insisted they stop “lying around in bed” and figure out what to do about Nadezhda. Right after she’d promised to leave this life behind.

April – National Poetry Month
April – National Poetry Month
I love to showcase New Authors! Here is a wonderful poem from a lady in my writer’s group, Laurel Van Horn. When she read this piece to our group, I knew I needed to publish it on my blog in honor of National Poetry Month. Ah… April.
April, Showers, Etc.
by Laurel Van Horn
Lion-like March gives way
to lamby April – which arrives in warming sun and showers –
its spontaneity intact.
And, what a fertile subject it has proved for poets –
Like a gloomy-doomy T.S. Eliot pondering a cruel, conflicted April
with its lilacs and rain and messing about
with our “memories and desires”;
Like a gregarious Chaucer setting off with a motley gaggle of Canterbury pilgrims
a Medieval reality show in the making –
once April’s sweet showers have made a muck of March’s dryness;
Like a paternalistic Sir William Watson claiming that
April’s tears are those of a frivolous young girl,
just as its laughter is;
Or, like a quirky, outside-the-box e.e. cummings teasing us about
a slutty, wet-legged April in a mud-splattered skirt;
whereas, a courtly John Masefield, bowing to a gracious and elegant April,
calls her “Lady April” and doffs his hat as well.
And, what of me, the humblest of poets?
I say that April is all the things that any poet has ever said about her and more,
but that Shakespeare, of course, might have said it best –
that April “hath put a spirit of youth in everything.”
(Laurel Van Horn is a former teacher, having taught English for twenty-three years at Rappahannock County High School. She retired in 2010 and just recently began writing again after having joined the Windmore Foundation’s writing group, Pen to Paper, and being inspired by all the terrific writers she has met. Culpeper has been her home for over 33 years and continues to be a wonderful place to live.)

Poetry – In Hard Times
I normally wait to post my poetry in April for National Poetry Month. But I find that when things take a downturn in my life my words come in poems to express my sorrows.
In February one of my Shetland Sheepdogs died. Her name was Truly. Even now I tear up when I face her absence. She was a wonderful companion and the following poetry came about because of her loss.
Time
Time
slips away
like sand through my fingers
until suddenly
gone
Passing On
Warm arms lift
Holding you cradled to a
Heartbeat of love.
Angel wings unfurl
You are flying
Away from Earth
Into another step of your journey
And a new beginning.
Truly (dogs)
They come to you with licks
of love for your hands and face.
Embrace their unconditional love now
as their joy washes over you.
For time is fleeting and one day
they’ll be gone and you will miss
those tail wags and sloppy kisses.

Love is Complicated
Wow! Here it is February and I haven’t written a blog since the New Year. I’m so sorry. Life has been kind of exciting around here, to the point where I had to move my deadline for “Trapped In Shadow” back to March. Still not sure of the exact release date, but I will let you know as it gets closer.
For those of you who are signed up for my newsletter, you’ve seen pictures of my granddaughter, Amilya. She was born a preemie and had a hard time coming into the world. She and I bonded while she was still in the womb and I delight in every second we have together. So when my son said he was taking his family to live in Florida, I was heartbroken.
I had been doing so well with my writing, too. Up to Chapter 14 in “Trapped” and planning four or five more. Now however, I am grieving the loss and break up of my family and have a hard time even thinking of what words to put on the paper. I’m afraid it may take me a couple of weeks to get my mojo back.
You probably think that’s funny since I’m writing this blog without a problem. But the truth is, writing this blog helps me get some of my emotions out so I can move on. I keep reminding myself that the world is different from when I was a child. We have Facetime and Skype now. I may not be able to hold Amilya, but chances are with some effort on my part she won’t forget me.
So bear with me. I will get my act together soon and the next and possibly last Shadow Walker book will come your way. I know you’ll love Hugh and Stacey’s story.

2015 in review
The WordPress.com stats helper monkeys prepared a 2015 annual report for this blog.
Here’s an excerpt:
The concert hall at the Sydney Opera House holds 2,700 people. This blog was viewed about 13,000 times in 2015. If it were a concert at Sydney Opera House, it would take about 5 sold-out performances for that many people to see it.

Throw Me To The Wolves: A Quick Chat with Caryn Moya Block
By Madeline Iva (Originally Published Nov. 19th on LadySmut.com)
So this week I just had time to grab a quick chat with Caryn Moya Block who was at the Washington Romance Writers luncheon for Bloggers & Readers back in October. Caryn is such a sweet woman, as well as a very successful romance author. She currently has three series, but by far her most popular is her wolf shifter series.
MADELINE IVA: you write paranormal stuff — can you recommend anything that you really loved reading in the paranormal realm that’s super steamy or erotic romance?
CARYN MOYA BLOCK: I just read Kate Douglas’s DARK WOLF from her new Spirit Wild Series. It is both steamy and erotic. I loved it!
MADELINE IVA:Why do you love it so?
CARYN MOYA BLOCK: It celebrates love and I think that is hugely important. The love between mates and between friends, no mater what the gender. I hope that one day the world will be able to do the same.
MADELINE IVA:What’s your fav paranormal movie?
CARYN MOYA BLOCK: Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s’ Stone
MADELINE IVA: Any fav wolfie stuff to share?
Hello Mr. Wolf.
CARYN MOYA BLOCK: I have been coveting one or two of these wolf statues.
MADELINE IVA:What’s the latest/greatest in the world of paranormal?
CARYN MOYA BLOCK: *LOL*, I have seen bigfoot and yeti romance, which might be fun to write. Also Zombies seem to be huge, but decaying flesh is not romantic to me, so I don’t get it. The nice thing about Paranormal is that it includes everything out of the normal. That covers a lot of topics.
MADELINE IVA: Tell us about your latest book.
CARYN MOYA BLOCK: My Newest Release is HERE.
