Christmas Traditions at our House
Christmas Traditions at our House.
Christmas is full of traditions, from putting up a tree, to hanging stockings over the fireplace. During the years, our family has added to the list and I thought I would share a few with you.
My husband complains that commercialism has Christmas coming earlier and earlier. So in our house, Christmas is not allowed to start until Santa arrives in the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade. We gave up TV five years ago, so we sit in front of our computer and watch the Earth Cams as they show the parade marching by. I always get a thrill seeing Santa on his float. I love Christmas and this year I squealed like a child, “It’s here, Santa is here!” My husband laughed at my overwhelming enthusiasm.
Another tradition we started is we decorate the house the weekend after Thanksgiving. Our adult sons come over to help and this year brought their wives and daughters. The women work inside and the men put up the lights and outside decorations. Then after dinner, we all decorate the tree. We have a special angel that we bought in Germany, while my husband was stationed there, that has been gracing our tree for over twenty five years. She of course goes on top. We also have ornaments that once belonged to my deceased grandparents that now decorate our tree, and every year, everyone in the family gets at least one new ornament.
For my granddaughters first Christmas, I bought them a small tree, pink for the oldest, and purple for the second granddaughter, and filled it with “Baby’s First Christmas” ornaments I collected once they were born. This year, my oldest granddaughter put her ornaments on her family tree at home, while my baby granddaughter gets to look at the lights of the tree grandma gave her this year. I also bought each granddaughter a stocking to be kept at grandma’s house and then beaded their names on it with white and red pearls. Grandma loves to get hair bows, little books, and teething toys to fill it with, not to mention the traditional orange.
Another tradition we started long ago, is each night from Thanksgiving on, we watch one of the many Christmas movies we have on DVD. My husband’s favorites are “Scrooged” and “Christmas Vacation”. Mine are “The Holiday” and “Love Actually”. Then there are the timeless classics, “Miracle on Thirty-Fourth Street” and “White Christmas” that warm our hearts every year. We now have more movies than days, so we have to pick and choose. My newest daughter-in-law added “The Polar Express” to our must watch list.
We actually have several more traditions, but I’m not going to spill everything. I guess you could say Christmas is celebrated in grand style at the Block House. To all of you, I hope you have a very Merry Christmas and wish you the grace of Peace this Holiday Season. What is your favorite tradition at your house?

I have always loved this book and now after three years of writing and releasing eleven books since this one was published, I thought it was time to go back and bring Dmitry and Violet up to the standards of writing that I am capable of today. I also wanted to release this book in paperback and thought it needed some expansion to make the cost worthwhile for me as the author, as well as for you the reader. So here it is, with more sex scenes, more descriptions and more love.
I have also included two non-fiction articles. “Why Siberia?” and “Love at First Sight, Believe in the Possibility”. These explain why I set my world of Lycans up the way I did, as well as why I believe in “Love at First Sight” which I gave to my characters through the mating bond.
I hope you will love the changes I’ve made, including this new cover designed by Hot Damn Designs with some added parts by me, mainly the wolf and wording.

Love at First Sight – Believe in the possibility

I’ve written about my personal experiences of “Love at First Sight” in previous articles, but as I prepare to release the Special Anniversary Extended Edition of Alpha’s Mate, I wanted to visit the topic again. Some people think love at first sight is a ridiculous fairy tale. So, I wanted to find some statistics and dive a little deeper to find the truth.
According to statisticbrain.com, 71% of Americans believe in love at first sight and on postyour.info/statistics, 34 % of people who responded believed. Wow, that is a huge number of people, but that is just those who believe in love at first sight. These statistic do not address if there really is such a thing.
Dr. Earl Naumann, author of Love at First Sight, interviewed and surveyed 1,500 individuals of all races, religions, and backgrounds all across America, and concluded that love at first sight is not a rare experience. What’s more, Dr. Naumann theorizes that if you believe in love at first sight, there’s roughly a 60 % chance it will happen to you. Here’s what led him to that conclusion:
Nearly two thirds of the population believes in love at first sight.
Of the believers, more than half have experienced it.
55 % of those who experienced it married the object of their affection.
Three quarters of these married couples stayed married.
Okay, now we’re talking numbers. What about science?
According to an article on pychologytoday.com, after changing the wording to “love at first acquaintance”, Elliot D. Cohen, Ph.D concluded that yes, love at first sight does exist and there was no reason to suppose otherwise.
Then I found an article about the really interesting scientific study that published in the Nov. 7 issue of the Journal of Neuroscience. Jeffrey Cooper, a psychology researcher who conducted the study while he was a postdoctoral student at Trinity College was able to map the specific areas in the brain that were involved in our love at first sight decision processes.
In the first few milliseconds of seeing a new face, we’re evaluating physical attractiveness using one specific region of the medial prefrontal cortex, called the paracingulate cortex. But the rostromedial prefrontal cortex goes a bit deeper, very quickly asking, “Yeah, but are they compatible with me?”
“These really are separate processes,” Cooper said. “But they really are both happening in your head as you make those initial evaluations.”
It seems that the truth of “love at first sight” is that our brains are wired to make that evaluation in milliseconds and believing it’s possible is the beginning. So, I invite you to believe in love at first sight, it might happen to you or someone you know.
