talk about perspective. shit.
Fucking hell.
I remember the first time I saw a map of Africa to scale. My jaw dropped.
And I’m wondering how a continent so big can be so conveniently left out of our world history text books. A class on Africa isn’t a requirement for Anthro majors at my school. YOU CAN HAVE A MAJOR ON THE STUDY OF HUMANS AND COMPLETELY LEAVE OUT THIS WHOLE ASS CONTINENT.
Well goddamn
consider this: anti-blackness is so prevalent that it has literally skewed how we perceive the geography of our planet.
^^^^^^^!!!!!
Part of the map thing is that we’re still using a cartography method called the Mercator Projection that was invented in the middle ages, which accentuated the size and position of the Western world. A new method came out in the 1970′s that’s more technically accurate, and people generally reject it because it seems to elongate everything out of shape, since we’ve been looking at the same inaccurate maps for centuries. You can go to thetruesize.com to see how messed up our concept of geography really is.
The United States is HALF the size of Africa.
Half.
Think about that.
