thecaliforniakings:

Well, Loyal Subjects, there’s a hot new game making waves out on Steam, and it’s a true doozy to behold. Welcome to Darkest Dungeon, an Early Access dungeon crawler/RPG with stress and sanity effects, turn-based combat, and a devilishly brutal difficulty. King Chris decides to dive into the depths to see what the fuss is about.

Note: currently, if you do a search for issues involving Fraps and Darkest Dungeon, some people are have framerate lapses, some are only having black screens with audio, and some have no audio whatsoever. I got lucky that Fraps would work with the game at all. But! This will probably be resolved with future updates as the game progresses.

This game is every bit worth the hype surrounding it. Maddeningly fun.

thecaliforniakings:

Young Emmett Brown is working on a machine that will be able to discern if the user is a model citizen or a degenerate criminal. Of course, if Marty McFly wants to break up Emmett and Edna, he needs to make the machine believe that Emmett is a degenerate. Cue the trial and error!

fight stigma with knowledge

im really glad this post has something about dysthymia because you don’t usually see people talking about that. i’d like to really stress on this and just say that dysthymia is chronically as in like your hormones are super fucked up and this is something that you can never “come up” from. with depression, it comes in waves. Dysthymia is kind of a forever “bleh” feeling, and often comes along with social anxiety, introversion, and panic disorders.

Amazon Adventure Book Day!

Well, maybe only for me, but still, two of my books, Dust McAlan and the Empire of the Serpent, and Adventure Princess, are free to download on Amazon today and tomorrow as well. Two all-ages adventures for the price of nothing!

Also, while I’m thinking of it, assertedbullet, I’ve been meaning to answer your ask over the last couple days, but it’s a long response and I’ve been turning it over in my head. I’ll tag you when I answer so as to make sure you see it.

M: This week, I discovered a terrible Earth disease called ‘loneliness’.

O: Do many people on Earth suffer from this illness?

M: Oh yes, sir. And how they suffer.

"toska [tohs-kah]"

“toska [tohs-kah]”

- (noun) An untranslatable, Russian word – Vladimir Nabokov describes it best: “No single word in English renders all the shades of toska. At its deepest and most painful, it is a sensation of great spiritual anguish, often without any specific cause. At less morbid levels it is a dull ache of the soul, a longing with nothing to long for, a sick pining, a vague restlessness, mental throes, yearning. In particular cases it may be the desire for somebody or something specific, nostalgia, love-sickness. At the lowest level it grades into ennui, boredom.” (via easymomentsandobsession)

EVERYDAY THE SAME DREAM is an art game about alienation and refusal of labour. You are a faceless, unnamed man going about his business. The game has alternatives endings. Will you end up going to work and working in a little cubicle like every day, or will you take another route and do something different for once?

PLAY IT HERE

OK LEMME TALK ABOUT EVERY DAY THE SAME DREAM.

My history of game design teacher had us play through this game for ten minutes one class, and then played it on the projector.

At first no one seemed to really get it, it just seemed like a daily life simulator with catchy music (the music carries the game beautifully, don’t play it on mute if you can help it).

Then some of the other students began murmuring and questioning the point of the game after a few play throughs.

Yes, there are different ways to end the day, but the game has only one true ending, which is reached after ending the day every way possible.

Don’t judge the game by the minimalist graphics and simple gameplay mechanics. Every Day the Same Dream is a brilliantly crafted and for some a highly therapeutic experience.

Things you do one day can and often will affect the following days, (your wife leaves you, the homeless man vanishes, you lose your job, etc.) Until you’re left with only one final option, which I won’t spoil.

To paraphrase my professor, this game makes you look for a deeper meaning, not just in the game but also in yourself. It takes you to a place within yourself you need to be to understand yourself and how you interact with the real world.
Play it all the way through and see for yourself.

I think everyone needs to hear this

It’s a beautiful, haunting game.

thecaliforniakings:

After a fantastic journey across the Unterzee, Captain Chris decides to make for port on his final voyage across the Early Access waters of Sunless Sea. But! Today marks the game’s full release, meaning there’s still plenty of story and content to be seen, including any future DLC (please give us Zeppelins please give us Zeppelins). So the captain will return to these waters with more footage sometime in the future, but for now we look back and bid adieu to the ever-changing Neath. Here’s to those brave souls who’ve passed on, and for those of you who haven’t played this game yet — why the hell not?

Check out updates from Failbetter Games: http://failbettergames.tumblr.com/

Playing this game in Early Access form has been a remarkable experience. It’s certainly put me onto the idea of playing other Early Access games in the future. This might be the last vid for a while, but there will be updates and story, and I’ll make new episodes when I come across big storylines and complete them. For now, here’s to the success of a fantastic game!
