Why I Wrote STAR CRUISE RESCUE

Back in 2016, I was in a scifi romance anthology entitled ROMANCING THE STARS, long since not available, for which I wrote a novelette of about 9K words entitled STAR CRUISE RESCUE. The requirement was to stay under 10K words and I always have a hard time “writing short” because I have so much action, adventure and romance to share. March is a timely month to discuss time itself, since we had the Daylight Savings Time “spring forward” weekend. I love time travel science fiction romance and especially the ‘Groundhog Day’ style tales where a day repeats itself endlessly and the main character must figure out how to fix things and break the cycle. The original 1993 movie with Bill Murray is a classic of the genre in my opinion.

Recently I watched “The Adam Project”, a new Netflix scifi movie starring Ryan Reynolds as Adam Reed, with a time travel theme. Bottom line, I enjoyed the movie overall and would give it a B+. Spoilers ahead!

This 35K word novella was originally written to be my story in the Pets in Space 6 anthology (which is no longer available).

Some years the Pets story idea would come first for me and other years the pet concept was first and drove the story. This year they arrived in my head together, which made things easy.
