Tales of Thrift Store Treasures

IMG_2130If you enjoy a leisurely cruise through the aisles of the local Goodwill or Salvation Army store, you probably don’t want to go thrifting with me. I walk into a thrift store and immediately revert to serious “picker” mode. Years ago, as a widowed young mother of two, there were months when I literally paid the bills by “picking” and reselling on eBay. (Yes there was a day job but the paycheck didn’t stretch far enough, you know?) I can “pick” an entire thrift store in twenty minutes, less if...

Weekend Writing Warriors WRECK OF THE NEBULA DREAM Assassin or Bodyguard?

better wewriwaSince we’re a month away from the 101st anniversary of theTitanic’ssinking, on April 14th, I’m still doing excerpts from WRECK until then but after that I’m switching off to something else. I appreciate all the comments and feedback! Sadly there isn’t anything Irish in WRECK I could post for today, although there are characters named Rafferty and Casey but it would cause too many spoilers to excerpt them.

So….instead I went for a bit of the description of the D’vannae Brother, a character who...

If You Want to Meet A Leprechaun

???????????????????????????????If you want to meet a leprechaun, forget chasing rainbows – you’ll have to be in Huntsville, AL tomorrow for the annual St. Patrick’s Day parade. While I’ve never seen the parade myself, even though it’s been staged for many years, I happen to know there’s always a gentleman participating who just….might…be…the real deal Leprechaun.

Well, yes, okay,I’m related to him! But judge for yourself from the photo. I hope you wear the Green on Sunday the 17th because everyone is Irish that day, right?...

WRECK OF THE NEBULA DREAM Making the Audio Book Part 3

hubble wavyThis is third and final post in my mini series on making the audio book for WRECK OF THE NEBULA DREAM.

So after I fell in love with Michael’s audition for the book (see last week’s post), I sent him an offer through ACX, again using all their standard contracts and forms. He accepted and we were off. I e mailed him the entire book, which as he said in my interview with him, he then read through, as part of his preparation. He had a few questions and we e mailed back and forth a bit. Since the...

Weekend Writing Warriors WRECK OF THE NEBULA DREAM Nick is not psychic…

better wewriwa

Since we’re about a month away from the 101st anniversary of the Titanic’s sinking, on April 14th, I decided to keep going with excerpts from WRECK until then but after that I’m switching off to something else, ok? I’m REALLY appreciating all the comments and feedback! I’ve played with the punctuation a bit to make this eight sentences. This excerpt comes after the part where they’ve returned to the planet, allowed the pregnant woman and her entire party to debark and are now hurtling through...

Five Favorite Books

871147_98968988I was asked my friend Teresa Cypher to play in the “Five Favorite Books” meme and I’m always game for a challenge so I said yes. Of course the problem immediately becomes HOW do you pick only five books??? (When you look at her post, you’ll see she gracefully “bent the rules” a bit LOL.) I decided for today I’d just take the first five that float up into my consciousness because there must be something especially wonderful about them, for my busy brain to offer them immediately.

Mara Daughter...

Character Interview: Gretchen from THE MAGIC MIRROR AND THE SEVENTH DWARF

GretchenIt’s my pleasure to have Gretchen from THE MAGIC MIRROR AND THE SEVENTH DWARF as my guest today (along with her author, Tia Nevitt). Before we launch into the interview, here’s the story:

Prince Richard is cursed. Enslaved to a magic mirror, he must truthfully answer the evil queen when she uses it to call on him. To keep from betraying innocents, Richard wanders the countryside and avoids people.

All her life, Gretchen has been teased for being small. When she hears of a hidden farm populated...

Making the Audio Book – WRECK OF THE NEBULA DREAM Auditions

hubble-picture-6Last week I interviewed the wonderful actor Michael Riffle on his creative process in narrating the WRECK OF THE NEBULA DREAM. This week I’m going to blog on some of the aspects of getting an audio book made, as the author.

Right from the start, when I self published the novel, I wanted to have an audio book version available. I knew the audio book market was booming and science fiction seems to do really well. I didn’t want to miss the opportunity to get the story in front of such a potential...

Weekend Writing Warriors – Wreck of the Nebula Dream – More Distraught Passenger

better wewriwa

Continuing on with the scene in the shuttle, on the way to the cruise linerNebula Dream, here’s another excerpt as Nick continues to deal with the distraught passenger who had the premonition of disaster. So far the shuttle is continuing its ascent to the larger ship. There’s been some back and forth between the crew, Nick and the husband about whether to turn around or not; the other passengers stared and gossiped; her pet came to join them (much to Nick’s annoyance) and now…

The young wife w...

Interview with Shawna Thomas JOURNEY OF AWAKENING

JourneyOfAwakeningFinalcoverDoesn’t her newest book have just a killer cover? I love it! So it’s my pleasure to have my friend Shawna Thomas on the blog today for a rapidfire interview!

What prompted you to start writing? This book or in general? LOL When I was a preteen, I read Gone With the Wind and couldn’t stand that it didn’t have an HEA. So I made one up. Later I played with some fan fiction, but it wasn’t until I had a dream about a woman named Ilythra that I sat down and wrote an entire story. Over seven years la...
