Patrick Simpson was born and raised in Sidney, New York. He was with IBM for nearly thirty years, retiring in 1991 as an Advisory Information Developer. He and his wife Anne traveled literally around the world for a year, even though she was nearly wheelchair-bound by crippling Charcot joint disease. Patrick wrote two books about their epic journey: Wheelchair Around the World and Wheelchair Down Under. His third book, Whither thou Goest, was winner of the JADA Press 2004 Nonfiction Book of the Year award. Desert Angels (2011) is his first historical novel, inspired by Paiute "Princess" Sarah Winnemucca and the events of the 1878 Bannock Indian War.
