When you’re curious, you find lots of interesting things to do. –Walt Disney

So many people lose the curiosity about the world that they had as a child. It’s as though they feel they have to decide what they must know about when they grow up–and so put on blinders to keep the rest out. As though there are things that aren’t worth knowing about at all.

Curiosity is life. Cultivate it. Feed it. Live it.

Tinder mimics mating behavior of early humans. Go figure.

Are we really always being secretly recorded?

It’s now legal to liquefy corpses in California! (I’ve always wanted to fertilize my garden.)

The Best Restaurant in the World is in Yorkshire, England.

Sad alert. Woman’s heart literally breaks after her beloved Yorkie dies.

Unplugging 2 and Headshot Thoughts

Today went much better than expected, unplugging-wise. I was encouraged by everyone who commented. Thank you.

I decided to try the baby steps thing. You know, where you don’t say, “I’m going to make this change, and it’s going to be big, and it’s going to last forever.” Taking a suggestion from one of the articles I linked to, I unplugged for the first hour after I woke up this morning. Okay, maybe I didn’t completely unplug, but I did limit myself to only texts. That’s the way our family fre...

The Unplugged Life

Look, Mom. No cords!

Oh, the irony.

Today I spent about an hour reading online articles about how to unplug from technology for several hours a day. It feels rather like going to a human resources department to find out how to get a job at another company. There are many, many articles and blogs out there on the subject. Books, too. Everyone has their own methods. But you never really know if people are being honest, right? The assumption is that whatever methods they propound actually wo...

On Frankenstein: A Handy Repost for the Spooky Month!

Have you read Mary Shelley’s Frankenstein? No, I mean have you read it recently? It’s one of those books that you might have read if you had a very cool 11th grade English teacher. (We read The World According to Garp by John Irving. That was definitely eye-opening.) I don’t think I actually read Frankenstein until college, and I read it because I loved horror novels. A lot of people say that they’re sure they’ve read it, but, honestly, even I started to conflate the book with the many Fra...

Art, art, art. Art is my touchstone whenever I travel. You can tell a lot about a city’s personality and culture by dropping into the local art museum.

Some treats from the Art Gallery of Toronto (AGO), where we stumbled onto an amazing show: “Guillermo Del Toro, At Home With Monsters.”

I’d recognize that face anywhere

Bouchercon 2017 Wrap-up

It’s totally possible to be both incredibly energized and too exhausted to work the day after a great conference, yes?

I returned from Bouchercon Toronto after a very long travel day, via Philadelphia. Sadly only saw the inside of the Philly airport. What is it with people in window seats closing the window shade the minute they get on the plane and raising them only after landing? What are they hiding from the clouds?!

Between meetings and my own events, I usually have little time to visit o...

Bouchercon Thursday Started Early

I am so impressed with Toronto, where I’m attending the Bouchercon Mystery Conference, but it doesn’t seem to like my technology. So today’s pics are very late. Wish you all were here to see what a friendly, wonderful city Toronto is.

Morning started very early. I had to be at the convention hotel, ready to go, by 7:30

So funny.
