African Sun Poetry from Battlegrounds to Boardrooms

African Sun

By Sam Divine, Jr.

Early in the morning I rise
Bringing the message that this is a new day
My duty is to shine brightly
To show the world that I am an African
A proud African

They call my continent “dark”
I wonder how this can be
A continent that’s home to Mandela, Weah, Tutu and others
A place I call home
Can never be the “dark continent”

Wherever I go I shine
Like the African sun I shine
My life and the lives of others show
How bright
Intelligent and lovely we are
I am an African
A proud African
God bless Africa
