Q is for Quotable Quotes

QI’ve been doing a LOT of talking lately because of the A-Z Blogging Challenge, so Q seemed like the perfect opportunity for me to let some other cool people do the talking. Today, I’m going to post some of my favorite quotes with maybe a little snippet about why I like them.

As some of you know,Fight Clubis one of my favorite books and movies. Between the space monkey lines, the Robert Paulson mantra and the unique snowflake bit, there’s a lot in the this movie that’s quotable. Truly, I could...

P is for Paranormal

Into The FutureI have a confession to make, y’all. I’m sort of a snob when it comes to paranormal fiction. I don’t try to be; I really don’t. I can’t help it. It’s just, when people get their facts wildly wrong, my head explodes.

And, sadly, it happens CONSTANTLY.

I get that writers all want to put their own spin on creatures that have been around for centuries. That’s cool. It’s just frustrating to read someone calling a particular creature a vampire when it’s very clearly a different type of creature altoge...

O is for Omigod Why Did You Kill Fortunato?

Student Project: FF ImperialAdmittedly, I’m totally cheating today because this post wouldn’t have anything to do with the letter O if I hadn’t dug deep and gone to the valley girl place with the title. I actually did have something that would’ve fit perfectly, a Latin quote, but…whatever.

I wanted an excuse to talk about Edgar Allan Poe because I’ve gotten halfway through the A-Z Challenge and haven’t mentioned him yet.

As some of you may know, I’m a huge fan ofThe Cask of Amontillado. It’s probably a neck and neck tie wi...

N is for Nutrition

20111019-FNS-RBN-1755This one seems kind of random, doesn’t it? I know I’ve been talking a lot about writing during the A-Z Blogging Challenge this month, but it was never my intention to turn into one of those writers who thinks they must write about writing just because they write.

So, today we talk about nutrition.

I know what you’re thinking. You’ve probably assumed I’m one of those low-calorie always on a diet type of people. Yes and no. I’m on a special diet, but it’s not because I’m on that neverending quest...

M is for Murder Most Horrid

Crime Scene [evidence shot 001]I don’t know where I got that title from. I feel like it was the title of a British TV show that was on PBS when I was a kid. Murder Most Horrid. Or maybe it was Murder Most Foul.

Whatever. We’re talking murder today.

For something that’s been around as long as there have been people on the planet, you’d think that everything had been done by now. Honestly, most things probably have, not that it stops writers from trying to invent new ways to murder people.

For fictional purposes, of course.

Rega...

L is for Love and Lust

Endless loveAh…love and lust, arguably the only motivations books and movies need to create a plot and drive it along to its conclusion. Actually, the same could be said about life as well.

To the surprise of people who know me in the really real world and have read any of my works, I don’t shy away from either in my writing. In fact, doing so would probably destroy the plot. Seriously, think of any book or movie that fell flat for you…What was it missing?

Before we get too far into this, I should clarify...

K is for Kismet

kismet + raggedKismet. It’s just fun to say, isn’t it? Kismet.

Even if I didn’t like the way it looked or sounded, I would still be a fan of kismet because I like it’s meaning. Basically, it’s another word for fate or destiny. While I’m no fan of luck, I don’t particularly like the words fate or destiny either. There’s something very heavy-handed about them to me. Kismet seems lighter, even if it has the same “meant to be” connotations.

So let’s talk about my good pal kismet, shall we?

Real life kismet in acti...

J is for Jackson Caldwell

Suit Up! (286/365)If you’ve already read Agents of Deceit, or you’ve heard me talking about it at some point, you know that Jackson Caldwell is the main character. I have to say, he’s been a fun guy to write.

Ooh…how sad would it be if I came on here and told you I hated my main character? That would be a bit awkward.

Anyway. Today, I thought it would be fun to give you a little bit of insight into what makes this character tick and some inside info on what you may be able to expect from him as the series progre...

I is for Inspiration

Day 204Inspiration is one of the most important tools in the author’s toolbox. Without it, we’re really just scribbling nonsensical words on the page. Without inspiration, books, poems, blog posts and even essays for school just don’t happen.

I’ve been fortunate in that I’m not one of those writers who talks about only having one story in them to tell. I could probably write novels full-time for the next 20 years and still not run out of crazy ideas to spin into plots. I’m a big fan of my muse most d...
