For the Historic prompt today, I thought an actual historic doll would be nice. This is Shirley Temple from 1935 from Edinburgh’s Museum of Childhood.
.
Even though this Shirley Temple was one of the best known celebrity doll from back in the day, she wasn’t the first one. Ballerinas were made into paper dolls way back in three early 1800s.

How cool would it be to have an American Girls Collection museum? What if it had literally every book, doll, furniture, clothing, stuffed animal pet, and accessory ever produced by the company in its 32 year history? All the notes related to the research and development of each historical character…. all the photographs and sketches of real places that the illustrators used… copies of prototype clothing and accessories… a gallery of those old Götz dolls that Pleasant Rowland based her dolls on… material from characters that never made it to market…. even a re-creation of each historical character’s bedroom. How neat would that be???

I would pay so much to see an exhibit like this

Man I WISH we had Christmas cake.
My middle school teacher’s wife is from Japan. And the first time he visited Japan around Christmas her family plopped a sponge cake with strawberries in front of him like “look!!!”
And my teacher is like “???? Nice!”“
And they tell him "it’s Christmas Cake!”
So he learns Japan has Christmas Cake, which is an “American thing.” Except if you’re American, you’re realizing Christmas Cake is NOT a thing we do.
They were pretty devastated that their American custom was made up. But hey, Christmas Cake is GOOD. so win lose
If you’re an American and ever go to another country my biggest advice to you is to go someplace “American themed”. Even if it’s just a seasonal section in a grocery store. It’s always a good time and sometimes it’s even cute.
When I was in Germany my cousins dragged me to a “rodeo” and it was hilarious. It was just a clown and his assistant in bad cowboy outfits lassoing things. Literally a clown. I’m not making that part up. There were no horses or bulls. I’ve seen more impressive lasso tricks from four year olds.
It was so fun. The American section of the grocery store in Switzerland had blueberry juice in it. What the hell is blueberry juice? Delightful, is what it is. 10/10 not accurate in the slightest would recommend. I’m glad they’re having fun.
The American section of grocery stores in Britain think we’re obsessed with marshmallow fluff.
The Christmas cake story reminds me of so many times I ate sushi in front of my Japanese friends and they just sort of laughed at me. I still haven’t been to Japan, so I don’t know what actual Japanese food is supposed to be… But what I had wasn’t it. (Same thing happened with Chinese food/Chinese friend. She thought I was hilarious)

Last day to get Dark Museum and Closing Shift for free on Amazon. Not doing this promo again for these books, so jump on it.
What are these books about? I’m glad you asked.
Dark Museum
What if you awoke in an eerie art museum without knowing how you and four others arrived?
What if those four comprised a musician you had the hots for, a movie star, an office worker, and someone you knew nothing about, all of whom remembered the same woman right before finding themselves there?
What if that museum had no easily discernible exits, no means for contacting anyone on the outside, but still had operating internal surveillance?
For Sophia Stewart the real nightmare doesn’t begin until she escapes.
Closing Shift (short)
Eight hours of looping movie trailers and stupid questions from customers is what she expects from her shift at the video rental store. What she gets is a retelling of “The Killer in the Backseat” urban legend.
.
For those of you who download these books, please consider leaving a review on Amazon and Goodreads. The more reviews a title gets, the more it’s boosted in the all-knowing algorithm, and more people find it.
I love hearing from readers, too, so if you’ve read anything I’ve written, drop me a line. I’m here, on Instagram and Facebook and pretty responsive.
