Three Years with the Same Publisher
Three years with Alterna? Man, time flies. Thanks for the well-wishes. Very humbling and gratifying. Artist Marc Rene and I brought The Machine Stops to Alterna in early 2013 and were stunned when publisher Peter Simeti fast-tracked the series for a Nov. release. As any editor can vouch, even a tiny snafu in such a tight window can mean disaster so long days and nights ensued. There wasn't much time to survey the landscape and stake stock in what we were doing so we were stunned when the book made some lists for the 2013 Top 10 Indie graphic novels and was submitted for an Eisner in 2014. Some of you may know that Machine was the only sci-fi story ever written by E.M. Forster, one of the great British novelists of the first half of the 20th century. Forster wrote Passage to India and Room With a View, so clearly, we were riding on the shoulders of a giant.
Following The Machine Stops, Marc and I were eager to saddle up and ride again on another series. We were so happy when Peter at Alterna AND veteran television producer David Rambo (Empire, Revolution, CSI) made it possible with our new series i, HOLMES. Again, it has been great. i, HOLMES premiered in Sept. on Comixology and will run through 2017. So that's how you get to three years!
