practical life lessons

When There Is No Good Why

When tragedies occur everyone wonders why it happened?  How could anyone do something so horrific?  Why did innocent people have to die for nothing?  What did they do to deserve such a senseless ending of their lives?  Why didn't someone stop that person from killing all those precious people?

We want to have someone or something to BLAME .  If we can place our BLAME somewhere, then that gives us a place for our anger, frustration, grief, shock, and disbelief to go.

We are a people that put life situations into two categories, Problems and Solutions.  We like to be able to categorize our emotions too.  But in a tragedy, we are unable to make sense of it, much less categorize it.  We can beat ourselves up forever trying to get the answers to all of our questions that begin with the word "WHY."   But the truth is, we may NEVER find out WHY .  No matter what, there would NEVER be a reason good enough to make it ok.

Yes, we live in a world where unspeakable, gut-wrenching, heartbreaking things happen.  But we also live in a world where miraculous, heroic, love-filled things happen too.  Sin came into the world, in the Garden of Eden, when Adam and Eve disobeyed God and did the one and only thing He told them not to do.  At that moment "PERFECTION" was never to be again.  However, when Jesus went to the Cross, and died for OUR sins, He gave us a way to still be able to live with Him Eternally.  He doesn't demand we love Him or live for Him, He leaves it up to us.  He allows us to make our own decisions based on free will and choice.   We ALL have the free will and choice to make good decisions and bad decisions.  The problem is, people forget their decisions come with consequences.

We have people that have done unthinkable things in this world, but they really are a small percentage of people out of our entire population.  Maybe the "NEWS" wants you to think what they show you on TV is the majority of what is going on in our world, but that is a LIE .  The truth is, they get more viewers, sell more newspapers, and have more people tune in on the radio to hear all the horrible things that are going on and how "we are all going to hell in a handbasket."  THAT'S why I don't watch the news.  It's not healthy.  Just listen to the first couple of minutes when they give you a rundown of what they will be talking about.  It's ALL NEGATIVE .  They sensationalize the horribleness that occurs in people's lives every day.  Think about it, how many people drive by an accident scene and DON'T slow way down and strain to see the gruesomeness in the crumpled automobiles?  Not very many.  That's why you have a traffic jam even in the clear lane on the road.

For every evil deed that is done in this world, there are countless good deeds that are done.  You may not hear as much about them, but they are happening.  Imagine how different our world would be if we ALL decided to seek out those that are doing the good deeds.  If we talked about the things that are being done to help others.  Sure, you may hear an occasional "peep" about something good, but it's buried beneath mounds of evil, or sandwiched in between two horrible things.  It's sick and twisted, and it's up to us to change it.  Just because something horrible happens doesn't mean we give up on humanity and quit trying.  We have to be careful so we don't "throw the baby out with the dirty bath water."

After these tragedies occur, eventually you will begin to hear about little signs or symptoms that were noticed a long time ago that caused people to question the actions of that person.  Some things were noticed years, months, weeks, or days before.  Nevertheless, wouldn't that have been the time for someone to have intervened?  I'm not blaming anyone, I'm just saying we are failing some really ILL people by not listening to that little voice inside of us that's telling us SOMETHING IS NOT RIGHT WITH THEM.   That is still NO EXCUSE for what they've done.

So shouldn't the real lesson be to try to take care of a potential problem BEFORE it happens?  Kind of like changing your tire when you notice a bulging place on it BEFORE you have a blow out.

It would be much better to go to the authorities with a suspicion about someone and it turn out to be nothing, than not to go and hear about your neighbors children being abducted, tortured and killed but that very person you were suspicious of.

Bottom line......."We are ALL in this "thing" called LIFE together."  We need to start acting like it.  We need to start PULLING TOGETHER .  If we pulled together IN BETWEEN the times of tragedies, maybe there would be fewer tragedies.

Until the next time we talk........Stand firm on Philippians 4:13.

Love, Hugs, & Prayers,

~tf
