Linzember update: It's already passed the middle of the month, we should have had over 150 sales to reach our goal. Unfortunately, there have only been 9 sales. This is surprising, I thought more people would have been inclined to buy or donate. It's not too late, though. Even if we can get 50 sales, this is a victory, albeit a small one. Thanks.

Linzember clarification needed
In my original blog post about Linzember, I described how Lindsay was so excited to use her first rebreather. Upon reading it, you may assume that she bought the $5,000 device and is now looking for donations. This would be akin to a welfare recipient going out and buying tattoos, beer, etc. This couldn't be further from the truth. Conversely, Linz's boss, who owns the equipment, was kind enough to let her use it to inspire her to get back into prime health again.
I take blame for not doing a better job of explaining the conversation better. With that said, please do what you can to donate. It's roughly three weeks until Christmas, help someone out in need.

Linzember—Fundraiser for Lindsay Maynard
I’m announcing that for the entire month of December, all book—paperback and eBook versions of Kingdom of Rage and Raw Vengeance—proceeds will go to helping Lindsay Maynard get back into her passion of flying and out of enormous debt. The goal is to reach $1,000 by the end of the year. This may seem like a meager amount, but when confronted with costs that will take years to pay off, every cent counts. We need to show her that her fellow crew members have her back. This is about morale and unity. Here’s your chance to contribute and get something tangible in return.
Lindsay and “Scuby”What will it take to reach the goal? Assuming only eBooks are sold, it would take almost 300 copies of Kingdom of Rage, at $4.99 each. This is very possible. What needs to happen is to spread the word and to tell others about the goal. Share this with your friends on Facebook. Get other crews involved. Several months ago, we raised a significant amount for Lindsay, money that she was able to use to obtain her long sought-after FAA medical.
After reading Lindsay’s Facebook posts about her struggles with Superior Mesenteric Artery syndrome (SMA), a rare disorder that has a 1 in 3 mortality rate, I decided to base two major characters after her and husband Rob. I portrayed hers as a rough-and-tumble helicopter pilot who makes split-second decisions to save her and her crew. Her epic scenes are a metaphor of her battle with her life-altering disease...and she’s winning.
Three months ago when the planning for the fundraiser began, I talked with Lindsay on the phone for the first time. I was hesitant at first, fearing that she was going to give me a sob story, a laundry list of all the things that were going wrong in her life. I barely knew her, and I wasn’t prepared to be her confidant. Three minutes into the conversation, my entire perception of Lindsay changed. Her tone, inflection, rate of speech—all were positive. Instead of being a downer, she was the most enthusiastic person I'd talked with in a long time. Linz was happier and more fun to talk to than most pilots that I fly with who have nothing wrong with them. How in the world can she be so excited? How can she have such a cheery attitude? Instead of talking about health issues, she went on about her new toy, a scuba rebreather demo, a device that allows her to breathe underwater with no bubbles. And boy, was she ever higher than a kite. She was like a guy showing off his new car. She went on a ten minute sales pitch about what all the new bells and whistles are, how much the gear weighs and costs. I forgot what I was calling about. Her positive, no-fear attitude and awesomeness is why I decided to help her out.
But, that’s Linz. Never once has she been negative. That’s what a person with a great attitude has, and that’s optimism. Even in the worst of circumstances, she didn’t let her condition plunge her unto depression. Against all odds, she’s coming back in a big way. Linz has already completed observation flights and will attend ground school this month. So, let’s welcome her back with open arms and open hearts.
Do what you can to help Linz out. Even if it’s $5, if two thousand people donate, that's ten thousand. As I said, it all adds up, no matter how small the amount it. Thanks, and happy holidays.

Is it SEXY enough?
Admittedly, the last blurb I wrote for Kingdom of Rage was interesting, but it wasn’t sexy enough to grab a reader’s attention instantly. I consulted with another prominent writer who was kind and professional enough to give me some great feedback.
The blurb was reworked to add a sense of imminent danger to the characters, their choices, and to the fate of the country. It is now more dramatic, suspenseful, and colorful.
Let me know if the new blurb builds your curiosity.
If you crave books by Tom Clancy, Vince Flynn, or Brad Thor you'll enjoy Kingdom of Rage.
A brother and sister, willing to make the ultimate sacrifice for freedom.
A mercenary, all alone in a hostile country that wants him dead.
A budding affair with potentially disastrous consequences.
A ruthless plot to destroy America’s fragile infrastructure.
The first fifty pages will capture your breath. The last fifty will make you hunger for more. An intense political thriller, KINGDOM OF RAGE has enough twists and technical magic to keep you guessing and your pulse racing until the very end.
Rich Fordham—world-renowned journalist and television personality. His celebrity has given him wealth, fame, and security.
Until the day that he receives an email that will shatter his prestigious career forever. The message is from an informant who offers damaging videos of prominent Saudi Arabian dignitaries—including the king. Rich knows that it’s part of an elaborate scheme to derail the monarchy.
And he doesn’t know that he’s been targeted to play a pawn’s role in that deadly plot.
The Saudi king grants Rich an exclusive interview, supposedly to discuss oil prices and foreign policy. But not everyone wants him there. And when he, his camera man, and their security team arrive, jihadists ambush their convoy.
Now, Rich must decide between saving himself, or helping to rescue the captured survivors. And he must then decide whether to walk away, or to play his assigned role in the conspiracy to overthrow the corrupt Saudi government. His toughest choice: whom should he put his trust in?
For his own life may not be the most important thing in peril....

Sales of my debut novel, Kingdom of Rage, are staggering
I kid you not, the sales of Kingdom of Rage at the end of week one are exciting. Just when I thought that sales had leveled off, a handful of readers took the plunge and made a purchase. It’s an awesome feeling when someone I’ve never heard of or barely know is willing to fork out $3 for something I put so much energy into. For you impatient types like me, here is a quick glance at the numbers:
Amazon: 16
Barnes & Noble: 0
Smashwords: 1
Let’s do a comparison—both of my books after being on sale for a week.
Kingdom of Rage: 17 ($2.99)
Raw Vengeance: 18 ($0.99)
Off by one measly sale! This is very good news. Why? It’s the price difference. People were able to get a taste of my writing style and later decided they liked it enough to buy again. I love repeat business. Not bad for a rookie writer who nobody knows. Oh, and Raw Vengeance picked up another 2 this week, go figure.
I’ll be honest, I was hoping for some off-the-charts number that had never been achieved in the ebook world. Maybe the book gods would smile upon me and raise my number past 100. Silly, naive me. You know what the best part was? My first sale was from an enthusiastic male flight attendant. I’m glad he’s excited—just like I want you to be.
This isn’t the end of the Rich Fordham saga. Those who read Kingdom will probably wonder how I can ever create a sequel based on what they’ve read. Trust me, when I say I can’t wait to work on the next TWO installments. Yes, I’m thrilled to announce that Kingdom will be made into a trilogy. With the turmoil in the Middle East I have so much material I don’t know where to begin. But there will be an event that occurs in the next book so astounding that just thinking about it makes me nervous.
For those of you who read Kingdom, please be sure to leave a review on Amazon and let me know what you thought and what you’d like to see happen in the next book. I’m always open to ideas!
