A Facebook Page for the Series

There's now a Facebook page for the Thaumatology series. There's not much there yet, but it's another step forward in my ultimate goal of global domination.

(Okay, I gave away my plans, but I don't think anyone noticed.)

Minor Note for Smashwords Readers

If you picked up Dragon's Blood on Smashwords and thought "Huh, he messed up the table of contents," well, it's fixed. You can download an updated copy, if you feel the need, at http://www.smashwords.com/books/view/127324.

Faran (and More Reviews)

Lily Carpenter's father is not your typical dad. He can change shape, make people feel really good just by seeing him, and drain energy from them during sex. Faran is an incubus (when he's not a succubus).

Faran, aka Helfaran Gef Nartharoll, was summoned to Earth around Christmas 1984 by a bunch of students after a good time. One of them, Sally Carpenter, a witch, got more than she bargained for when she gave birth to a healthy, if underweight, baby girl three months later. By then Faran was back in the demon's realm and it was years before Faran was summoned again. The birth of his half-demon child gave him a link to Earth, allowing him to stay, and for several years he was the perfect father. Then the link between them started driving a teenage Lily to more and more wild behaviour, and eventually Sally had to have him banished.

The experience left Lily with a profound fear of what might happen if Faran ever returned to Earth. If you want to know what happens when he does, then you should read Legacy, the third book in the Thaumatology series.

In other news, you'll find short reviews of Thaumatology 101 and Tales from High Towers' Study over in Smashwords by Ellen J. Miller. Ellen is a friend, but she likes the books anyway. She's also my chief sanity checker. If she thinks I've gone off the deep end with any of these books, I know I need a rewrite.

Another Tera Review

This time, Tera over at http://www.succubus.net has done a review of Tales from High Towers' Study. I love reading Tera's reviews, even of other people's books! She puts thought into them. She's certainly a better reviewer than I am.

Michael

I haven't done one of these character entry for a while, so let's say hello to Michael.

The son of the Alpha werewolf of the Brecon pack, Michael's mother was a human who died giving birth to him. His father could never quite forgive him for that, and he had two other brothers who were full-blooded werewolves. Michael left the pack as soon as he was old enough, running away to London where he eventually met Alexandra and joined the Battersea pack. He is now a member of Alexandra's Guard, a position of responsibility he would never have expected a few years ago.

When Ceri decided to join the Battersea pack for research purposes, Michael fell for her despite the fact that she was human and he knew how that could work out. Ceri fell for him, despite the age difference; Michael's seven years younger than her (I think it shows in his face) and she sometimes thinks of herself as a cradle robber.

The picture shows Michael around the time of Demon's Moon. This is the outfit he's wearing when we first meet him in human form. His confidence is growing the more he spends time around Ceri and Lily, and his available wardrobe is growing too – you can't go out to night clubs dressed as "Skater Dude."

Dragon's Blood Final Cover Art

I changed the cover a little prior to publication tomorrow. Ceri's outfit fits with the storyline better. As usual, the full sized version can be seen over at my Deviant Art page (link on the right).

More Blurb and Teasers

I drafted some blurb last night. I just looked at it and I think it needs work. Hey, if it takes me three or four goes at the novel before I think it's ready, why should the blurb not require a redraft?

However, while I'm not happy with the big blurb, the Smashwords teaser blurb looks good, so I'm going to post it now so it can do its job… teasing.

Stonehenge, enigmatic ancient monument alone in the English countryside, hides a mystery even more ancient than the rocks themselves. As Ceri searches for the answers an old enemy returns with murder on his mind. Can Ceri and her friend Lily survive to uncover the secret of the Dragon's Blood?

There we go. I hope you're feeling teased.

Blurb

A sudden, horrifying, thought has just hit me as I contemplate the release of Dragon's Blood… I'm going to have to write the back cover blurb! (Please imagine ominous horror movie music playing in the background; it'll heighten the effect.)

I really hate writing blurb. Smashwords is really mean, I have to write a short blurb and a long blurb. How mean is that?! Still, the short blurb can be a straight teaser, so not too bad. The long blurb, which I'll then use as the description for Amazon, somehow I've got to try to persuade people to read the book, but not give the game away. How much is too much? For that matter, how much is too little?! I still haven't come up with any system for creating it so if anyone has genius advice on crafting blurb, spill… please? (I'd do puppy-dog eyes, but they don't work in text.)

I hate writing blurb. Pity me!
