The Punisher vs. Batman

This is a repost of this thing I made last year. Not so much a fist-fight as it is an ethical debate between the two characters. Enjoy (note: click to make it bigger).

Behold, Reviews

The Shadow of Tiamat is getting some pretty great reviews at Amazon. You'll notice a couple of these reviews are from other writers. One of them is from Lynn Rush, author of Wasteland. I also got a great one from RTReviews and by paranormal book author Kelly Seguin.

If you haven't read the book yet, now would be a good time since the next part of the series will be coming out later this year. If you have read it and wouldn't mind so much, I'd be honored if you posted a review for me. Here is the usual list of links to places where you can purchase the book, or you can order it from your local book store or ask your library to get a copy in stock.

USBank: Go Tuck Yourself (In)

I've got something to rant about...

Free Images

"nomnomfuquenomnomnom!"

Now I can thank USBank for making the decision to switch banks so much easier by being totally unreasonable bastards about a mistake THEY made and refused to fix. I realize all banks are stubborn, but you guys took obstinacy and jackassery to such a level that is almost seemed like you were following some kind of Bushido-code of conduct for completely unreasonable and unapologetic assholes. Like even admitting to an error, even when doing NOTHING to fix it, would have required a ritual public suicide, when all I would have required was a simple "I'm sorry, this was our fault, not yours." But no, instead I had to talk to five different people over the course of a week, explaining a problem stemming from a mistake the BANK made and being told repeatedly that they couldn't fix the problem EVEN THOUGH THEY CAUSED IT. I guess it is the policy of USBank that when they make a mistake, the customer is required to fix it (i.e. pay for it) and doesn't deserve even so much as a simple apology.

But on the bright side, USBank, you've eliminated the problem I was having with only having the two US Bank branches in my new town...both of them in grocery stores with no drive-thru window. I was torn between the convenience of a more locally accessible bank and loyalty to the financial institution I'd been banking with for over two decades. For the most part, I've been pretty happy with the service there, especially at the Northpark Mall Branch where I first opened my account...WAAAAAAY back when they were Roosevelt Bank in 1997. They became Firstar sometime after that. Then US Bank. And now they can fuck off and die after sucking all of my balls. So long, US Bank. I'll soon be closing all my accounts, including a business account and various credit cards. It'll be a hassle, and I'm sure USBank has enough other customers that losing one more won't really make all that much difference...except that my books are picking up steam and making money, and I did just move to another state and was contemplating taking out a mortgage on a new place...but I'm sure one of the many banks and credit unions in Southern Arizona will be able to help me with all of that without being TOTAL AND COMPLETE DICKHEADS.

There, I had get that out of my system. In other news, this guy is going to die. And not soon enough, as far as I'm concerned. I've been asked by a few readers if there is any coorelation between this case and one of the crimes that occurs in my book, The Shadow of Tiamat . Short answer is: No. Long answer is No, with an explanation. I'd already drafted the outline/concept for what was going to happen in the book before that horrible real life crime ever occurred. By the time I got around to actually writing the book, most of the fervor over the Rowen Ford murder had calmed and I didn't think about it at all when writing my story. The only part that seems coincidental and might, subconsciously, have been inspired from the real life event was the head lice investigation Missouri CPS had done in the household. However, this is a fairly routine CPS call (head lice) so it really can't be said to be a related event. The whole thing was just terrible, and it really tore the area up with grief at the horrendous nature of this child's tragic murder at the hands to two disgusting slimeballs...at least one of which will soon be put to death by the State of Missouri. Hopefully, his partner in this detestable act will be sharing his fate. It's enough to make me wish I believed in Hell.

So yeah, that was kind of all over the place. But I've had a REALLY bad day so it is what it is. I'm just glad that my beautiful wife is still in Arizona for the weekend to spend time with me. And my Uncle Bob and Aunt Linda and cousins Staci and Robert are here for me to talk to about it all. I'd be a lot worse off if I didn't have the people in my life that I did. Moving all the way across the country for a new job was hard. Leaving my wife, brother, kitties and friends behind made it the hardest thing I've ever done. Having to deal with the belligerent cocksuckery of a bank I've trusted for over two decades didn't exactly make things easier. But I know there are people (like Rowen Ford's mother) to whom my frustrations are insignificant. And my family is here and they always make me feel better.

I don't mean to make it sound like I have a hard life. Far from it. I'm blessed to have what I have and who I have to share it with. But still, USBANK REALLY PISSED ME OFF and I didn't feel that simply closing all my accounts, credit cards, and services with them was sufficient admonishment. So, I did what I do: I wrote about it. FEEL THE BURN, SHITBANK!

Absinthe Minded

This weekend, I inducted my cousin Staci into the wonderful world of the green fairy.

Absente brand Absinthe

And I got this boss picture of Van Gogh drinking absinthe and turning into that multi-face alien from the deleted Rura Penthe Prison scene in Star Trek

Maddening to talk to Van Gogh when he's like this

I'll close with my favorite absinthe quotes -

-- Oscar Wilde

"Let me be mad…

mad with the madness

of Absinthe, the wildest, most

luxurious madness in the world."

-- Marie Corelli

5 - Star Review for The Shadow of Tiamat

From Wendy S. Russo's review

"When a guy hands the bartender an envelope of cash and tells him it's for the mess, I expect someone to end up with jukebox pieces tangled in entrails, and I was not disappointed."

Best review line ever.

Stabbing Westward

I made it to Arizona, everyone! It took me two days of hardcore driving but I got here! You can see a map of my voyage here on Foursquare. I enjoyed most of my trip, though. Especially central New Mexico. I also got to go to the Roswell UFO Museum, which I was expecting to be kind of goofy but was actually really cool. Here are some pictures I took along the way.

Stopping in Hereford, Texas on the first night, I set up the bedstand to remind me of home...

Roswell UFO stuff

Aliens actual size

This is alleged to be a woodcarving of an Incan Spaceship

Also Central New Mexico

These mountains in New Mexico were in my windows for several hours

I finished my first week of work at my new job and I think I'm really going to like it. I'm not going to tell you exactly what I'm doing but it's in my field (of education) and sometimes involves tear gas (G14 Classified). While this does mean I'll have a little less time to blog and tweet, the desert air is doing wonders for my health so in all likelihood I'll be active more since I won't be in pain so much. I haven't taken any prescription pain medication all week. That's the first week I've been able to say that in five years. While I miss all my friends in Joplin, I know this was the right decision.Praise Tiamat,

Songs for a Winter Voyage

The woods are lovely, dark and deep,

But I have promises to keep,

and miles to go before I sleep.

Open Mic Interview by Jean Murray

Check out this interview and guest blog: http://wickedromance.wordpress.com/2012/02/09/author-open-mic-welcomes-sean-poindexter/

Most of the art in the slideshow is concept art drawn by my talented friend Gennifer Bone. You can see more of her work here: http://razielart.deviantart.com/ along with a picture of me, a picture of the symbol of Tiamat and an old public domain drawing of what ancient humans believed Tiamat looked like.

So hop over there and leave a comment! And thank Jean for all the wonderful work she did on the blog. Also, pick up a copy of her book from Amazon:

Book Soundtrack for The Shadow of Tiamat

The publicist at my publisher suggested this as a promotional tool. She wanted us to make a playlist of songs that we feel in some way relate to the book. Either these were songs we listened to while writing it, or songs that make us think of the book or it's characters. I think this is a great idea! I always listen to music when I write. So I made the playlist for the book. This playlist has already been posted on the book profile page at my publisher's website.

And here it is now, for this blog.

[image error] [image error] [image error]

You'll likely notice that some of these songs are by people I know. Ross Gipson is my best friend of over a decade, and his song Wounded Town is about the tornado that destroyed a 4th of Joplin...which is also where the first book is set. Ross was living with us at the time, and we spent the tornado huddled in the bathroom with our cats and a radio. You should also pick up a copy of Salmon Dave

while you're at it.   Me Like Bees  is a band mentioned in the first book, on a t-shirt worn by one of Meg's brothers. Their track Devil's Song is on this list from their Me Like Bees EP is available from Amazon. You'll also notice that one of the tracks is by a band called Tiamat. They are in no way related to my book, nor is the book related to them. They are both derived from the ancient deity of the same name.

While some of these songs weren't around when I wrote The Shadow of Tiamat, they are indicative of the kind of music I usually listened to while writing it. So, that will give you some idea of how the book "sounds" to me. In particular, the very first track was a song I heard not all that long ago and thought it fit Meg perfectly. Hopefully you'll think so too, once you've read the book.

Which, if you haven't yet....
