Bookreporter on MIAMI MIDNIGHT

MIAMI MIDNIGHT is so dark and gritty that the only proper way to read it is with a spotlight and a breathing filter. It’s worth it. If you’re searching for a book with which to spend the closing days of summer, you need to look no further.

Writer’s Bone on MIAMI MIDNIGHT

The fact that Alex Segura is ending the Pete Fernandez run on his own terms is one of the many reasons Alex has been one of our favorite writers over the last couple of years.

The Real Book Spy on MIAMI MIDNIGHT

Simply put, Miami Midnight is superb . . . and while it’s sad to see this terrific series come to end, all eyes are on Alex Segura heading into 2020 to see how he’ll top himself moving forward.

Mystery Tribune Interview

Alex Segura is the author of the Pete Fernandez Quintet, five mysteries that center on a dogged but vulnerable journalist-turned-detective.

The latest (and potentially last, but never say never) book in the series, “Miami Midnight,” finds Pete at a relatively stable place in life—but he’s soon drawn into a mystery that not only involves murder most foul, but connects in an unexpected way to his own past.

Alex sat down with Mystery Tribune’s Nick Kolakowski to talk about the evolution of Pete as a character, how he plots, his influences, and why he never liked the trope of the invincible, all-knowing detective.

Alex at Terrible Minds

Today, a guest post from friend, author, editor, and general ne’er-do-well gadfly, Alex Segura, who wants to talk to you about how your brain is cooking? Which I think is a drug metaphor from the 1980s? Whatever. Point is, Alex isn’t cooking his books with drugs, he’s cooking his books with cool influences, so here he is to talk about that.

Hollywood Reporter Interview

Alex Segura leads an interesting double life. By day, he’s the co-president of Archie Comics, as well as the writer of a number of projects for the company behind Chilling Adventures of Sabrina, Archie Andrews and Riverdale. By night, however, he’s a successful crime novelist and the man behind the Pete Fernandez series of mysteries — a series that comes to an end with this week’s release of Miami Midnight.

To mark the end of the saga, Segura spoke to The Hollywood Reporter about the series, its conclusion and what comes afterwards — including a couple of comic book hints of what’s to come.
