A different view of the United States Capitol

Marty’s photo of the day #2475: Greetings from Washington, DC! I have a show on Tuesday at Northern Virginia Community College in Manassas (a DC suburb). Here’s a photo of the United States Capitol that I took the last time I was here. If it looks strange, it’s because I captured the image at night, from an angle photographers seldom use. To me, the trees make it look like a giant fungus monster has climbed the Capital and is holding it in its grasp. Oh, wait. That’s the NRA!

Washington, DC won’t feel the same.

Marty’s photo of the day #2474: Tomorrow morning, I’m heading to Washington, DC to perform a show at Northern Virginia Community College (in the DC suburb of Manassas). This will be my first time in Washington since the Patron Saint of Insanity and Corporate Greed moved into the White Supremacist House. It will be a quick two-day trip. There’s no need to linger, because the sights just won’t feel the way they did when I took this photo during the Obama presidency.

When stereotypes are accurate

Marty’s photo of the day #2472: As a liberal, I try to avoid grouping people in stereotypes. But sometimes you can’t argue with their accuracy. For instance, I have neighbors who have been known to shoot off their guns in such rapid succession that I can smell the gunpowder more than a quarter mile away. They also ride their ATVs all over the place. Is there any doubt they’re Republicans? Or this guy in the photo. I don’t know his name, but is there any doubt he’s Australian? I met him when we took a train into the Outback and stopped for a tinnie. Admittedly, I find stereotypical Australians much more interesting than stereotypical Republicans.

Penguin in a hurry

Marty’s photo of the day #2470: Much has happened this morning, so I’m running late. And when that happens, there’s only one thing to do: dip into my massive collection of penguin photos. Ah . . . here’s one now! It’s an Adélie penguin that I photographed on a tiny island off the coast of Antarctica.

Hanging out with moose

Marty’s photo of the day #2469: This photo is from a few years ago. Every year, moose hang out on the property we own around our house. I’m looking forward to seeing them again this spring.

Puerto Rico Fisherman

Marty’s photo of the day #2468: I took this photo along the coast of Puerto Rico. I love the feel of this shot: a fisherman getting in a few last casts before the storm moves in.

Oh, and standing off to the side, just out of the picture, is Donald Trump. Should the storm suddenly pick up, and wash the fisherman out to sea, Donald will be ready to throw him a life-saving roll of paper towels.

Playing with humpbacks

Marty’s photo of the day #2467: When Deb and I visited Antarctica we had several unforgettable, up-close encounters with humpback whales. I took this photo from our Zodiac (a rubber raft). On this outing, two whales played with our Zodiac—coming in above the water fast, diving under us at the last second, and surfacing on the other side with a great big blow!
