Thanks so much, Carrie Ann, for having me here today at your blog. It's great to be here!
I'm one of those people who tell friends who are pining over the past, "Forget about it! It's in the rear view mirror." This is probably an odd stance for someone who has a day job that's centered on history, but it's usually how I feel. However, sometimes going back is a good thing.
I wrote a little novella last year entitled Vampire Dreams. It remains to date the only time I've ever written something meant as catharsis. It worked beautifully for what I was feeling and many readers loved it. All good. It even spawned the series I'm in the middle of right now, the Sons of Navarus series. That little novella has done its author well.
The problem is that I never felt like I had done the story justice at the time. Yes, it provided me the personal catharsis I needed, but there had been more to tell and I hadn't done that. I thought it over in my mind, and every time a reader would say they wished it were longer, I'd agree and silently promise to remedy that. Someday.
My editor, on the other hand, is a never, ever look back kind of person, so she thought I was crazy for even entertaining the idea. "You're in the middle of a huge series. Why go back?" The answer was simple, though. I wanted to go back to give that story what I'd held back then.
So back to the story I went. I decided that since two characters from the Sons of Navarus series appeared in the book and it had always been the unofficial prequel to that series that I'd restructure the story to make it a real prequel. By the time I was finished, Vampire Dreams had morphed into Vampire Dreams Revamped and it was almost 50% longer than the original. I had new characters, new scenes, and the satisfaction of knowing I'd given those original characters of Brandon, Arden, and Vasilije the book they deserved.
[image error] Here's the blurb to give you a little taste: A vampire for hundreds of years, Brandon Ridley is surrounded by others of his kind who enjoy their world to the fullest. Orgies, debauchery, and sensual delights leave him empty, though. What he wants is that one woman who will share his life.
Homeless and without any family, Arden Stephens must live on the streets of mid 19th century London, never a safe place for a young woman. One night, as she is running for her life from an attacker, she is rescued by Brandonand offered a place in his home as his maid. Brandon is enchanted by Arden from the moment they meet and yearns to make her one of his kind.
Nightly, he visits her in her sleep, preparing her for the night he will finally make her his own. For Arden, the wanton dreams she has about her handsome employer seduce her and each day when she wakes up, she finds herself more drawn to him. But love and desire aren't enough for Brandon to sire her. He must first obtain the approval of his own sire, an ancient vampire named Vasilije who has thwarted his chance for happiness before.
But if Brandoncan convince him, he may finally find the love he's been without for centuries.
I spend my days studying the past, though I'm generally a present and future girl otherwise. But I'm glad I took a trip back to this wonderful novella that had done me such good. What about you? Do you ever think about revisiting your past? Leave a comment for a chance to win a set of signed bookmarks from the Sons of Navarus series. Good luck!
Thanks again for having me here, Carrie Ann!

Dust of My Wings: Six Sentence Sunday #47

Happy Sunday! How's your day going? Thanks so much for coming! Below is a snippet from my upcoming Dust of My Wings, out July 27th!
Shade adjusted himself as his cock rose to attention just at the thought of her. He’d only seen her through the paned glass, yet he wanted her. He liked the way her average height held such delicious not-so-average curves. Those damn sexy hips of hers begged his hands to grip them as he rammed into her body bent over any surface he could find.
He groaned and pinched the bridge of his nose. This was so not the time to be thinking these thoughts.

Fresh Friday Reads: Divinities, Dragons and Alpha Wolves

Happy Friday the 13th! I'm busy writing, but when I'm winding down I got a chance to read a few books. Tell me what you've read!

So this is my BFF's first book in her Divinities series so I'm going to gush a bit. I love her and her work.
There. I said it.
But onto the book. I had no idea what to expect when I first read it, but I'm glad I did. Kalissa is so heartwarming and strong, I wanted to be her. And Ayden is dreamy. He's strong, caring, and damn sexy.
The world building rocked and I wanted to know more about their world. Thankfully this is a series and I get to know more!!!
Kalissa Bradenton isn’t your average coffee shop owner. Born to an elite witch bloodline with a rare genetic mutation, she’s a Divinity on a mission. The death of her parents sends her away from her Maxville, Florida, home and into an ancient war between witches and demons. When childhood friend Ayden Daniels comes to her aid after an almost fatal accident, visions of a past she doesn’t remember sparks an old flame and new desires. With the past slowly becoming clearer, she eagerly sets her sights on mending Ayden’s heart and gaining his trust–until a ghost from her past returns to claim her as his demonic mate.
Ayden, the new Sheriff of Maxville and grandson of the oldest living Divinity, is investigating a series of Divinity killings. When he comes face-to-face with the one woman he hopes to have little to no contact with, old pain rises, quickly followed by anger and resentment. Through his rare power of adaptability, he learns actions from the past may not be what they seem. Hope fills his broken heart and determination pushes him to do whatever it takes to win Kalissa’s heart once more before he loses her forever.
Together they must find the strength to mend their tormented souls, while fighting an evil out to destroy the world.

I had no idea what I had been missing when I picked this up. Thank you for the recs people! Thea rocks. This dragon was freaking hot. I love the Wyr!!! I read this entire series so quickly I think I just about passed out from lack of sleep LOL.
Half-human and half-Wyr, Pia Giovanni spent her life keeping a low profile among the Wyrkind and avoiding the continuing conflict between them and their Dark Fae enemies. But after being blackmailed into stealing a coin from the hoard of a dragon, Pia finds herself targeted by one of the most powerful—and passionate—of the Elder Races.
As the most feared and respected of the Wyrkind, Dragos Cuelebre cannot believe someone had the audacity to steal from him, much less succeed. And when he catches the thief, Dragos spares her life, claiming her as his own to further explore the desire they've ignited in each other.
Pia knows she must repay Dragos for her trespass, but refuses to become his slave—although she cannot deny wanting him, body and soul.

Yay! I finally got to read Ranae! This book was so cute and I'm glad I got to read the sequel right away!!! Jack is so cute and cuddly--for an Alpha who can kick butt, and Mandy was hilarious! I can't wait for book 3!
When Mandy leaves the city behind and embarks on a retreat to the Great Smoky Mountains, she expects to spend the week alone with nature and a stack of novels. Instead, she ends up trapped on a remote mountain by a big game hunter who’s hell-bent on bagging a werewolf. Lonely alpha wolf-shifter Jack, the last of the once-strong Half Moon Pack, is his target. Jack is determined to keep Mandy safe while hunting his hunter, but being around Jack brings out a wild side Mandy never knew she had. As silver bullets fly, so do sparks. If they can manage to defeat their attacker, Mandy will still have one problem to contend with: Jack is convinced that she’s his mate.

Thursday Tales: An Interview with Sandra Bunino

Hi! Thanks so much for coming today. Tell us a little bit about yourself.
Thanks for having me on Romance with a Bite, Carrie! So, a little about me…I’m a contemporary erotic romance writer with a pretty shoes habit which my book royalties don’t yet cover. My alter ego is an Accountant turned Human Resource professional. The proceeds keep my closet well stocked.
Tell us a bit about your book.
LUSTED IN LAS VEGAS continues Jason and Stephanie’s super sexy soiree. This time they’re in Sin City, baby! LUSTED is the sequel to MAROONED IN MIAMI, however, it’s not necessary to read MAROONED to enjoy LUSTED (but I would love it if you did…you’ll love it!).
Is this part of a series?
Both MAROONED IN MIAMI and LUSTED IN LAS VEGAS are included in my Sensual Short Stories series.

My favorite part of LUSTED IN LAS VEGAS has to be the cabana scene. It’s really the turning point in Jay and Stef’s relationship.
Why did you choose to write romance?
I’m an avid romance reader. I simply write stories I would want to read.
Do you ever have any conversations in your head with your characters? If so, can you give us a hint of what you might talk about?
Yes, and my DH thinks I’m nuts!! It’s usually a character whose story hasn’t been written yet. It’s like they’re waiting in line and some are more persistent than others. Currently, I have a sexy pirate giving me his bedroom eyes saying, “I’m next, right?” *waggles eyebrows*
Rate your story in terms of steaminess
I rate LUSTED IN LAS VEGAS 4 pomegranate martinis, sugar rimmed, of course!
What are you reading right now?
I’m reading Alexandra O’Hurley’s Park and Ride. It’s a fast moving, sweet and sexy erotic romance. I highly recommend!
I know this is like asking who is your favorite child, who is your favorite romance author (s)?
Wow, I really can’t answer this! *skimming through my Kindle app titles* There are SO many and like all authors, I read a lot. Lately, I’ve been a fan of shorter novella length stories. I read mostly contemporary romance and I’m a big fan of Cara McKenna’s beautiful writing and Lynda Chance’s Alpha heroes. I just read a very hot book from Joey W. Hill called Hostile Takeover. It was the fifth in a series but the first of hers I read.
What is your favorite romance book or series?
Even though I love short contemporary romance, my all-time favorite is a big, fat time travel historical entitled Outlander by Diana Gabaldon. It is a series, although I still think the first book is the best by far!
Who is your favorite romance character? If you could go on a date with that person, what would you do? Details please! *wink*
I’ll go with Jamie Frasier, the 18thcentury, wild, red-headed hero of Outlander. But only if he wears his clan tartan kilt on the date. I would first parade him around town because he would create such a stir. Then I would probably introduce him to a single girlfriend because I’m married. ;-)
Boxers or Briefs?
Boxers, definitely!
Chocolate or Vanilla?
Tough one, especially since I’m a sweets girl. I love ‘em both but if I had to choose, I would go with vanilla (with fresh strawberries, kiwi and slivered almonds).
Do you have a special piece of clothing you wear when you write?
Although it’s not a piece of clothing, I usually write with my maltipoo, Coco, on my lap. Not by choice, he just jumps on my lap and curls up while I’m writing.
What is next for you?
I’m so excited about my next project! I’m writing a series called The Satin Rose Experience. The introduction to the “BDSM-lite” series was published in Evernight Publishing’s KEYBOARDS AND KINK Anthology in June. I contracted Book One: MIA’S SUBMISSION with Evernight for a late summer release. Books Two and Three are also in the works!
What were your first impressions of each other?
Stephanie’s answer:Here’s my first impression of Jason right before we boarded the elevator in the Miami hotel (from Marooned in Miami):She turned to see the source of those words that washed over her like a slow moving current. There he stood, his eyebrows raised waiting for an answer to his question, lips curled to showcase his straight white teeth. He seemed to have appeared out of nowhere; surely she would have noticed him in the lobby. A day’s growth of dark stubble covered his chiseled cheekbones below dangerous blue eyes. Stephanie’s heart raced involuntarily, as she imagined her fingers combing through his dark wavy hair. Stop it, she thought as she shook her head slightly hoping it would rid her mind of these visions.
What are your favorite parts about each other?
Jason’s answer:My favorite part of Stephanie? I think this excerpt from Marooned says it all:He decided to swear off women for a while but Jason was always a sucker for heels. So he was easily distracted from the conversation he was having with Carlos when he heard the low clicking of her heels walking through the lobby. From his barstool, he first spotted those sexy black stilettos. His eyes wandered up her toned calves to her tight linen skirt. Since she was facing the elevator he was able to leisurely admire the way her skirt hugged her tight ass.
What’s next for you?
*Jason turns to Stephanie and tugs a lock of her hair* “What’s next, Stef?”*Stephanie smiles* “I’ve always wanted to go to Monte Carlo.”“Your wish is my command. I’ll have the jet fueled up.”

Lusted in Las Vegas picks up where Marooned in Miami left off while Stephanie and Jason’s sexy tryst continues in Sin City! Their chemistry is undeniable and their lust just may take a turn toward love when they return to each other’s arms. However, all is not perfect in paradise when Jason’s ex comes to town and wants what she believes is rightfully hers.
Jason’s not the only one with something to hide. Stephanie carries a secret of her own. Can she spend a carefree weekend with Jason without risking a broken heart? Or do her feelings for Jason run too deep to simply walk away?
Excerpt:
She pulled away from his embrace and ducked under the pool’s surface. Stephanie was a natural swimmer. She swam the length of the pool without taking a breath. When she resurfaced at the opposite end of the pool, she turned and placed her elbows on the pool’s edge. She eyed Jason who was not looking at her face. His gaze was fixed a few inches to the south. She looked down at her pebbled nipples clinging to her bikini top. Touching her fingertips to her neck, she traced the line of water droplets down to the valley between her breasts.“Do you swim, Jay?” she teased.Jason gave her an evil smile, slowly lowered himself under the water and swam toward her. When he reached her, he circled his hands around her waist and gave the little bows tied at her hips a gentle tug. Her black bikini bottoms slipped off as his head broke the surface and they were suddenly face-to-face.“You won’t need these where we’re going. Oh and this either.” He reached behind her and pulled the string tied at her back. In a split second she was nude in his swimming pool. He turned her around so that her back was against his chest. He nibbled on her ear and neck as his fingers rolled her pointed nipples to soft peaks. She leaned her head against his shoulder and tilted her head to kiss him. As his lips lowered to hers she giggled and spun so that they were facing each other.“Well, if my bathing suit is not required than neither is yours.”Stephanie placed her hands on his cool wet chest and lowered herself down until her head was under the water. Her hands traveled down his chest to the waistband of his trunks and swiftly pulled them off. She popped her head up from the water’s surface and dropped his suit next to hers on the pool deck. She laughed and wrapped her hands around his neck. He easily lifted her and guided her long legs to encircle his body. Stephanie kissed his cool wet mouth. The sweet taste of pineapple lingered on her lips as her tongue entangled with his.“To your grotto, madam.”Stephanie giggled as he carried her to the entrance of the grotto. With a whoop of childlike glee, she lifted her hands high when he paused under the waterfall. The cool water splashed through her fingers and over her head. Jason loosened his grasp and allowed her body to slide down his until his feet hit the floor. He swiftly spun her around, covering her eyes with his hands. The exhilarating cool water flowed through her hair and over her shoulders. He nudged her beyond the waterfall and all was suddenly quiet except for the splash of the never-ending flow of water from the fall. Uncovering her eyes, she scanned the enchanted grotto.Directly in front of them was a natural rock staircase leading up several feet to a bubbling, steam covered hot tub. Lush, tropical greenery grew throughout the grotto interspersed with brightly colored flowers. Glancing up, Stephanie found the light source, a glass covered skylight above her head. Only Jason Royce would have a skylight in his grotto. She smirked and shook her head.“This isn’t what you expected?”“Not at all, I just figured it was a little private alcove of the pool. Never did I expect to see a beautiful garden.”Jason led Stephanie to the stairs leading to the hot tub.“After you,” he said as he gestured for her to climb the stairs.“Uh-huh. You just want a view from behind, don’t you,” Stephanie said with a wink as she began her ascent.“You bet your sweet ass, darling,” he chuckled.

Writer Wednesday: Timeless Sojourn by Jamie Salisbury

I try to make my heroine’s real. Someone the reader can relate to, someone they might actually know in real life. I like them to be smart, but at the same time vulnerable to the unknown. This makes them have a strong character (at least in my books) which they can draw upon to achieve whatever the novel they’re in requires.
In the case of Anne Harrison in Timeless Sojourn, it was rather easy. She is a mature woman, one who’d be an “empty nester” is she had children, and finds herself divorced at a time when she should be enjoying her life. With Anne I added some twists. Her ex-husband is unpredictable in his obligations and she finds herself in dire straights financially. She is a strong woman, but has been beat down and it takes her removing herself from her old life and starting over for her to regain her confidence. I think most women can relate to her and her trials and tribulations, because most of us have been through at least some of what she has to deal with.
While I don’t like my heroine to be bitchy to the point that she’s irritating or over the top, they usually have just enough, adding some sarcasm to make her likable. Like a friend. With Anne, she finds that Geoffrey brings out that quality in her, leaving her confused as to her feelings for him. It allows them to stand up for themselves while not seeming too serious.
Anne is also resourceful and realizes she has to “crawl before she can walk” and falls back on her previous experience to work, while she “dusts off” things she is really good at and wants to pursue.
In the case of Timeless Sojourn it will be a matter of character development for both lead characters – seeing how Anne goes from what I mentioned above to a savvy, strong, in charge businesswoman, who will take no crap off anyone.

Jamie Salisbury cannot imagine a time when she did not write. A skill that has served her well throughout her professional career. Public relations in and around the entertainment industry, photography, editing, and special event planning all elevated her passion for writing.
An avid reader of histories, biographies, and romance, it's only natural that part of the products of her pen are historical romances featuring characters so authentic they spring forth from the page and shake the reader's hand. Many of her teen years were spent in Chile, but she and her family were forced out of the country when the political climate demanded it.
Taking the plunge to take her writing professional came as a result of a series of foot surgeries that left her with a lot of time on her hands. Unable to walk great distances at the time, she started writing as a way to pass the time. Her experiences of how dramatically her life had changed at first. Then the new world of e-publishing inspired her to digitally publish her first novel, Perpetual Love, rather than relegate it to the dreaded drawer. She couldn't be happier with her decision to grab the publishing industry by the shoulders and force it to pay attention to all she has to offer.
Two more novels have followed: Blood Lust and Tudor Rose, with more to follow soon.Jamie now lives outside of Atlanta, but the love for travel has never abandoned her. Adventure, exploration, and intrigue permeate her prose to the core.
In those few moments of the day when she's not writing or thinking about writing, she finds knitting a way to relax and unwind. Other interests include photography, equestrianism, reading, and of course traveling.
Jamie hopes her writing will entertain, enlighten, and inspire others to pick up the pen and pursue their own dreams. She loves to be contacted by readers, writers, and history buffs.

BLURB:
Recently divorced at a time when most women are enjoying their children being grown, Anne Harrison finds her life in chaos. At the urging of her forever-friend Kat, Anne moves back to Seattle, her childhood home, to get back her former confidence and make a fresh start.
Confident, creative, and a successful businessman, Geoffrey Quinn has depths not immediately apparent to those who come into contact with that cocky, devilishly handsome exterior.
The last thing either is looking for is a relationship. Anne finds Geoff highly irritating (and young!) at best, while Geoffrey finds her magnetic and wise. To his amusement, she futilely attempts to dismiss him each time they cross paths, and sparks fly.
Watch as this seemingly unsuitable, disparate duo lights a fiery, compelling attraction neither sees coming. But who will get burned?

EXCERPT ONE:
Geoff was right--once we returned to Seattle it was almost a week before I heard from him. When he did call it was merely to check in and see what I was up to. His new project he said would consume him for the next couple of weeks until he was ready to begin his mockup. I took that as a hint to drop by his studio/gallery. Geoff’s studio/gallery was in the same building as Tom’s PR firm so Friday afternoon I decided to pay Geoff a visit.
I walked inside his gallery and found him walking through the space. He looked like a deer in the headlights. He looked up, saw me and walked toward me shaking his head.
“I hope you don’t mind,” I started, seeing he was shaking his head and had somewhat of a scowl on his face. “I wasn’t busy and thought I’d pop in and check on you.”
“No, please Anne, feel free to stop in anytime,” he replied was he walked up to me and placed his hands on my shoulders as he kissed me. “I just realized that my gallery party is scheduled for tomorrow evening and I haven’t done a thing to prepare for it. I’ve been so busy with this new piece I completely lost track of time.”
“Come on, let’s go sit down. You can tell me what you needs done and I’ll help you.”
“I can’t possibly ask you to do that.”
“You can and you will. Now let’s make a list of what needs to be done.”
He led me by the hand towards a desk in a corner of his gallery. I sat in the chair placed next to the desk as he sat behind it looking for paper and a pen. We went over a list of guests who would definitely be coming and then on to what he wanted to serve. I got my phone out and began to call Kat.
“Whom are you calling?” He asked not looking up from his list.
“Kat. She can at least help us estimate how much wine you’ll need.”
I was actually surprised that he had not been more organized for this event. This wasn’t like him. I smiled to myself as I realized I might be a slight distraction to his usually orderly life.
Kat was surprised too, but didn’t flinch when I started asking her questions. Then she came up with an idea and had me give Geoff the phone. All I heard was his grunting to her questions or short answers.
“Seems I’m coming over to Kat’s for dinner this evening so we can all discuss my lack of preparation for this event.”
“Don’t worry, we’ll get you through this.” I replied taking his hand.
“I have no doubt you will. Come,” He said getting up and leading me toward the back, “I want to show you how I do what I do.”
We walked to the back. I saw a ton of drawings taped to the walls and on a large flat surface. There was also a large hunk of clay covered by plastic. It amazed my senses at the detail involved in a project such as this.

“I’m not sure yet, but I won’t leave for a while, I know that much.”Lily smiled, and Shade followed the long curve of her neck with his gaze. What would her skin taste like if he licked and nibbled right where her neck met her shoulder? Would she shudder in his arms and whisper his name?Shade shifted in his seat as his erection dug into his zipper, and his wings threatened to pop out of his back. He needed to focus on his assignment and not the sexy creature in front of him.
