Club Med Tignes Is a Skier’s All-Inclusive, Ski-in-Ski-Out Dream in the French Alps

I opened the heavy curtains of my room to find snow gently falling across ski slopes that towered outside of my balcony in Tignes, France. Located in the dramatic French Alps, Tignes is a small mountain town built around skiing, good vibes, and epic views. The brand-new, all-inclusive Club Med Tignes resort sits at the base of the Tignes-Val d’lère Ski Area, home to about 185 miles of ski runs to explore as well as the Glacier de Ella Grande Motte. And with mouth-watering food, next-level amenities, and the epitome of ski-in-ski-out access, Club Med Tignes is more than just a good location to get outdoors.

If you want an awe-inspiring view of a ski resort in the French Alps, the Club Med rooms are what you’re looking for. Dramatic mountains sit outside of huge glass doors where you can sip tea in the mornings before heading down to breakfast. Bright colors are paired with modern mountain design elements. Natural materials styled in a contemporary way offer a new-age tie to a strong mountain heritage steeped in the heart of Tignes. Stepping into Club Med, you can tell the rooms were designed to emit a warm feeling, all crafted for the guest’s comfort.

The rooms are well-designed with ample storage and hooks, so there’s more than enough space for everyone’s mountain chic clothing.

Other room options include the single bedrooms, which are the perfect getaway for couples or single travelers thanks to relaxing space with contemporary touches. Interconnecting suites and suites with multiple bedrooms are perfect for any family ski vacation when parents still want to have their privacy but also an easy way to keep an eye on their kids.

From spa treatments to childcare, Club Med is brimming with amenities for every guest.

Whether you’re new to skiing or live for the slopes, visitors looking to ski will find everything they need. Each room has its own ski locker just a minute’s walk from the chairlift, so your room won’t get wet from snowy boots and you’ll never need to lug skis around the hotel. Even better, if you’re renting gear, the staff at Club Med will put all rental gear into your assigned locker prior to arrival, so you just need to show up and go. Lift passes and group lessons are included for ages 4 and up, so any level skier can feel comfortable here at Club Med. Families with varying ability levels can also find comfort in separating on the slopes, knowing kids will be well looked after by experienced instructors.

If turns down the mountain have you feeling sore, the wellness offerings at Club Med pair perfectly with a day full of epic skiing. The spa offers single and multi-day packages, including treatments like massages, facials, and kid-friendly options. A pool, sauna, and hot tub all mean you’ll be relaxed after a hard day in the mountains.

To continue your wellness journey, you can hop into a yoga or pilates class, evening out your body from the shredding. Weights and cardio rooms are also available for those who would like to get a workout in but aren’t as into the idea of sliding down a mountain on a plank. On top of this, children’s clubs are included and available for kids aged 4 to 17, so whether you’re skiing or in yoga, your little ones will be entertained.

The party doesn’t have to end once you’re done unwinding if you’d like to stay out. From string quartets to musicals, Club Med offers its guests rotating evening entertainment every night.

When I walked into the Val Claret restaurant, I couldn’t believe it was at an all-inclusive hotel. The smell of cured meat, melted cheese, and fresh bread was paired with sizzling fish and crackling potstickers. Every meal offered a variety of new dishes, and the presentation was almost as delicious as the food. A beautiful dining space provides panoramic views of the surrounding mountains, giving new meaning to dining with a view.

Though I could talk about Val Claret for hours, the apres ski experience deserves a special mention. An incredible array of treats were rivaled only by the delectable array of drinks available to welcome you on your way up from the ski lockers (and yes, all included).

Tinges may be tucked away in the French Alps, but there are quite a few ways to get there. Fly to Lyon and coordinate with the hotel to have a driver come and pick you up for a chance to view incredible, snow-covered trees as you climb higher into the mountains on the winding road. Another popular way of getting there is by flying into Geneva and taking the Alti Bus. A handful of other options can be found on the Tignes website.

The Albula Railway is a UNESCO World Heritage Site that runs between Thusis and St. Moritz in the canton of Graubünden in eastern Switzerland. The railway was built between 1898 and 1904 by civil engineer Robert Briwet and is considered to be an engineering marvel due to its steep inclines and tight curves. It is also notable for its numerous bridges and tunnels—the longest being more than five miles long.

The scenery along the route is truly stunning, with lush green hills, snow-capped peaks, pristine lakes, and majestic waterfalls providing mesmerizing views throughout your journey. It’s no wonder why this route has become so popular with tourists from all over the world! You can even take a break during your trip to explore some of the charming villages along the way or hop off at one of several stations for some hiking or skiing opportunities.

The train itself adds to your experience as it chugs its way through some of Switzerland’s most breathtaking landscapes. The carriages are kept impeccably clean while offering comfortable seating with plenty of legroom and windows providing unobstructed views of your surroundings as you travel across winding mountain passes or through tunnels carved into solid rock face! During your journey there will be several stops where you can get off to explore nearby attractions such as Albulapass or Lej da Segl waterfall before continuing on your journey.

11 Things To See, Do, and Eat in Bratislava, Slovakia

Bratislava probably isn’t the first European capital on most travelers’ bucket lists, but that’s only because most travelers probably don’t know how fun the Slovakian capital truly is. Like many of the most popular European cities, it has incredible architecture, thriving beer and cafe cultures, and a beautiful riverside location on the Danube — and Bratislava is an easy city to see on a budget to boot. If you’re sold on the idea of visiting Slovakia’s grandest city but don’t know where to start, here are 11 memorable things to do in Bratislava.

Presidential Palace

Bratislava’s presidential palace — officially Grassalkovich Palace and colloquially Slovakia’s White House — is an impressive baroque building dating to 1760. Once a concert venue and gathering place for aristocrats, Grassalkovich Palace is now the seat of the president of Slovakia, although its large French garden serves as a public park as well. The palace is located in Hodžovo Square on the edge of Bratislava’s Old Town.

Old Town

Bratislava’s Old Town is a stunning cultural and historical destination, with winding side streets, sculptures and statues, and architectural landmarks such as Bratislava Castle, Michael’s Gate, the Blue Church, St. Martin’s Cathedral. After cafe hopping and immersing in the bustle of the main square, Hlavné Námestie, head to the Slovak National Theater for an evening opera.

The Blue Church

Located in Old Town, the Blue Church is Bratislava’s standout attraction, if only because of its striking baby blue hue. Officially named the Church of St. Elizabeth, the 20th-century Art Nouveau holy site is famous for its many altarpieces, mosaics, and majolicas, which are a type of decorative tin-glazed earthenware that was popularized during the Italian Renaissance.

Bratislavsky Mestiansky Pivovar

Bratislavsky Mestiansky Pivovar is a large brewery located on historic Dunajská street a few minutes from Bratislava’s Old Town. Its origins can be traced back to the 15th century when beer brewing first took off in Bratislava, then Prešpork. The brewery locals and visitors alike flock to today was built in 2010 and specializes in pilsners. Traditional Slovakian food — heavy on red meat, dumplings, and seasonal vegetables — is also served on site.

Drink in Gallery Andy

A stone’s throw from Bratislava Castle in the Old Town is a funky little bar called Drink in Gallery Andy that was created in the image of a traditional Slovakian tram. The intimate interior is filled with cool rotating artworks, and you can get small bites like sandwiches and french fries along with coffee, beer, wine, bubbly, and a variety of elaborate and colorful cocktails.

Bratislava Castle

Bratislava Castle is the most imposing structure in the Slovakian capital, watching over Old Town from its hilltop perch. Written records of the castle date as far back as the ninth century when it was originally constructed, although it was rebuilt multiple times, most recently in the mid-20th century. Today, visitors can not only admire the castle from many points within the city but also tour the Slovak National Museum-Historical Museum located inside.

Primate’s Palace

A must-see for history buffs, Primate’s Palace is not an ornate zoo but a stunning classical building that’s filled with impressive collections, including a portrait gallery, hall of mirrors, tapestry collection, and array of rooftop statues, vases, and a coat of arms. Once belonging to a Hungarian archbishop, the palace now serves as the mayor’s office as well as a concert hall.

UFO Tower

At more than 300 feet tall, UFO Tower is one of Bratislava’s most skyline-defining landmarks, so named because it resembles an alien spacecraft. It was built in 1972 on top of the New Bridge, one of the largest hanging bridges in the world, offering 360-degree views of the Danuve below. Inside, there’s a restaurant and cafe, as well as an observation deck on top of the dome.

Rooftop by Regal

Everybody loves a rooftop bar. This rooftop bar in Bratislava’s Old Town is no exception. The 2,000-plus-square-foot terrace not only provides guests with wine, beer, cocktails, specialty lemonades, and American-style eats like burgers and fries but also stages concerts and events during the summer. Have no fear if you’re visiting Bratislava during the chilly winter, though. Rooftop by Regal is outfitted with igloo-style tents to keep guests warm in a cool ambiance.

Antique American Bar

Numerous travelers have written online reviews attesting to the fact that Antique American Bar serves the best cocktails in Bratislava. The exterior and outside seating is what you might expect of a European cafe while the inviting interior looks like it could pass for an Old Hollywood hotel bar, with black-and-white photos on the wall and a small but striking chandelier hanging overhead. Note that there’s limited seating inside, so reservations are recommended.

Roxor Burger

Roxor Burger is a popular burger joint located in Bratislava’s New Town about 20 minutes northeast of Old Town on foot. The menu is simple: a variety of excellent burgers using beef sourced from local farms (with the exception of the one veggie burger on the menu), fresh french fries made every day, homemade accouterments from the buns to the sauces, a handful of sides and sweets, and beer from small breweries.

Castle Combe Is the Quintessential Medieval Village in the English Countryside

If you’re looking for a calm and picturesque escape, look no further than Castle Combe in Wiltshire, England. This charming village is known for its stunning beauty and quaint atmosphere, making it the perfect place to explore and relax. Take a walk down cobbled streets lined with medieval churches, sprawling manor homes, and quaint cottages — it’s easy to see why Castle Combe has been called “the prettiest village in England.”

@visit

♬ original sound – Visit

The village was first recorded in 1086 when William the Conqueror ordered it to be surveyed as part of his great survey (the Domesday Book). And while some parts have changed since then, there are still plenty of historic sites that remain intact today. One highlight is St Andrew’s Church which dates back to 1240; inside you can find beautiful stained glass windows and an ancient font dating back to 1603. There are also several old manors that can be toured including the 15th-century Manor House which offers guided tours throughout the year.

Though a small village, there are plenty of activities for visitors to enjoy. Take a leisurely stroll through the countryside and admire the views from nearby hills or take a guided tour of the village itself. For those who are feeling adventurous, there are plenty of trails for walking and cycling. And if you’re looking for something a bit more unique, consider visiting one of the local nature reserves or going on a hot air balloon ride over the countryside. Packhorse Bridge is located close by with its stunning views of the River By Brook and surrounding valley – making it perfect for picnics or simply enjoying some time away from it all. And if you’re looking for something truly unique — consider taking part in one of the guided ghost walks which will take you on a journey through centuries-old streets filled with tales about witches and ghosts.

The village also offers several pubs and restaurants where visitors can sample some traditional English cuisine or just enjoy a pint while they take in the views. Additionally, there are plenty of shops throughout town offering everything from antiques and books to clothing and souvenirs.

These Persian Milkshakes Are a Must-Try in Dubai

Of all the diverse and delicious food you can track down in Dubai, there’s one that’s bound to satisfy any sweet toothed travelers: an ice cream shop called Dynamite Shake in Umm Suqeim, a bustling area of Dubai located along the Jumeirah Beach coast.

Dynamite Shake borrowed the secret ingredient behind its signature milkshakes from another Middle Eastern dessert: Persian ice cream. The shop’s Persian-style shakes are made with almost a dozen different ingredients — including coffee, cinnamon, banana, walnuts, dates, sesame seeds, shredded coconut, and pistachios — that are blended together to create a deliciously rich and sweet milkshake. Beyond using many ingredients that are common to both Persian and Emirati cuisine, Dynamite Shake’s base ingredient of traditional Persian ice cream gives these milkshakes their creamy, thick, almost stretchy consistency.

How is Persian ice cream different from other ice cream?

Persian ice cream, also known as bastani, shares the same core ingredients with something like Italian gelato or American ice cream: milk, cream, sugar, and eggs (Italian gelato often skips the egg yolks used to make American ice cream and uses a higher ratio of milk to cream). However, Persian ice cream often incorporates frozen bits of clotted cream and sometimes adds salep, a type of flour made from starchy tubers in the orchid family.

Early ancestors of bastani can be traced back to around 2,000 years ago, which makes Persian ice cream one of the oldest ice cream styles in the world. And now, thanks to the team at Dynamite Shake, you can taste all different flavors of Persian ice cream milkshakes, including pineapple or chocolate and hazelnut. You just might have to wait in line first.

Step Inside a Comic Book at This 2D Cafe in Qatar

The hallmark of a memorable cafe is usually good coffee. Second to that are ambiance and aesthetic. In Doha, Qatar, there’s a cafe with such a cool and captivating interior that the coffee doesn’t need to be half as good as it is to keep the customers coming. It’s called Ink Cafe, and it’s designed to look like a black-and-white, two-dimensional, graphic-style space, resembling a cafe that was ripped from the pages of a vintage comic book.

@matadornetwork #InkCafe in #Qatar is one place you don't want to spil your coffee 😉 🎥 IG: @fayazfz & @hi0lust #2Dcafe #qatartravel #coolcafes ♬ original sound – Matador Network

Ink Cafe isn’t the first 2D cafe in the world. The concept became popular in South Korea around 2017 and is now a trend that’s popped up everywhere from Japan to Russia to Chicago. Doha’s Ink Cafe posted its first video on Instagram in August 2019. It originally opened in the city’s Lusail Marina Food Arena — a drive-through open-air food park with dozens of restaurant outposts that together are as big as a little neighborhood — but according to the cafe’s Instagram account, it’s currently in the process of relocating.

Like its design, Ink Cafe’s menu is creative, featuring a long list of iced and hot coffees, teas, non-caffeinated hot beverages, and even mojitos. Food options range from sweet breakfast items like waffles and french toast to sandwiches and a handful of cakes and cheesecakes for dessert. The cafe also has a few unique packages and gifts available for pre-order, including a loaded breakfast basket, afternoon tea to-go box and tea set, and doughnut bouquet.

Watch This Octopus Cling To This Fisherman’s Cage for Dear Life

Have you ever wondered how an octopus can cling to the side of a boat, grab onto rocks in the ocean, or hold onto a fisherman’s cage for dear life (as in the video below)? It’s thanks to their remarkable grip strength. From gripping prey for meals to keeping hold of objects, octopuses use their tentacles and suction cups to navigate the environment around them.

@matadornetwork The catch of the day 🐙 @brookesattar shares that the octopus held on for a bit, then let go and swam back down into the ocean 🌊 🎥 @brookesirah #octopus #pacificoctopus #octopustok #seacreatures #octopus🐙 ♬ original sound – Sickickmusic

Octopuses use suckers located on the underside of their tentacles to help them move around and find food. Each sucker contains three muscles that work together—a circular muscle, a radial muscle, and a longitudinal muscle—to form a tight seal that allows the octopus to cling onto its surroundings. When these muscles flex, they create a vacuum which helps it stick firmly in place. This same vacuum also helps an octopus hold onto its prey while it eats it.

The strength of an octopus’s grip is impressive, depending on the species, they can range from 0.1 pounds up to 15 pounds. In addition, octopuses have been known to open jars with their grip strength; one particular species (the giant Pacific octopus) was even able to open childproof pill bottles without much difficulty. This tenacious grip is so powerful that it’s been studied by scientists as a possible model for robotic grippers used in industrial settings.

Octopuses are also remarkably flexible creatures; they can squeeze through incredibly small spaces because their bodies are boneless and malleable enough for them to do so! As such, they can access areas that other animals may not be able to get into due to their size or lack of flexibility. This makes them adept climbers who can climb up vertical surfaces with ease; this skill often comes in handy when looking for shelter or hunting for food in hard-to-reach places like rock crevices or coral reefs.
