Creatures of the Deep: Abyssal Gigantism
Featured in Ripley's Believe It or Not!
Even scientists are not 100% sure. Abyssal Gigantism is when deep sea creatures grow so much larger than their shallow-water cousins.
Take, for instance, the isopod.
10,000 Species of Isopods
Isopods range in size from micrometers to the size of a small dog. They can even go up to five years without food!
Are Oarfish the stuff of legends?
The oarfish is the LARGEST bony fish in the world. They live at depths of over 3,000 feet. They typically stay in deep waters, AND only surface because they are in the process of dying.
Old legends of gigantic sea serpents like Jörmungandr and the Loch Ness Monster were actual oarfish sightings.

Giant Squid
It wasn’t until 2012 that a giant squid was caught on camera for the first time. In January of 2016, Local fishermen were surprised when they spotted a 12-foot long orange torpedo-like squid meandering its way through the Japanese harbor in Toyama.
Beware of the Japanese Spider Crab
These crabs have a reach that can extend up to 40 feet! Even Robert Ripley, who had circumnavigated the globe was in awe at the sight of one.
Ripley’s Unveils Wax Figures of President-Elect Trump
Featured in Ripley's Believe It or Not!
They’re huuuuuge, they’re big league, and they’ve been hand- crafted by the F/X team at Ripley’s Believe It or Not!
They are the very first wax figures of Donald Trump. One is now on display at Ripley’s Orlando Odditorium on I-Drive. The figure is in the lobby and can be seen and photographed for free – but only for a limited time.
Just as in real life, wax Trump is polling at about 50% – loved by some visitors, loathed by others.
Come by and show your love or dislike for the President-elect. He is in the lobby and can be seen and photographed for free – but only for a limited time.
Ripley’s created three wax figures of the President-elect. They will go on display at Louis Tussaud’s Palace of Wax in Grand Prairie, Texas, and Louis Tussaud’s Waxworks in San Antonio, Texas and Niagara Falls, Ontario. Ripley Entertainment owns and operates the three Louis Tussaud’s Waxworks.
Ripley’s F/X team started creating the first Trump figure about four months ago. Each is sculpted by hand by a team of artists, using photographs to create the likeness. Each figure takes about six weeks to complete.
Win or lose, the Trump figures were destined for Louis Tussaud’s; after Tuesday’s election results they’ll now stand with other presidential wax figures.

Shemika Charles, the Limbo Queen
Featured in Ripley's Believe It or Not!
In 2015, Limbo Queen Shemika Charles, of Buffalo, New York, became the first person in the world to limbo under a car—a clearance of about 9 inches!
Coached by her mother, Sherrie, who was a limbo dancer for 16 years, Shemika trains for about six hours a day! This is no easy feat, as limbo dancing is very physically demanding.
After working through an injury earlier this year, Shemika recently came to the Ripley’s warehouse to show us that she’s back in action!
Watch as Shemika shows off her unbelievable talents!

Ripley’s Mannequin Challenge
Featured in Ripley's Believe It or Not!
Remember the Ice Bucket Challenge or the Harlem Shake? Well there is a new video challenge taking over the internet, and it’s called the Mannequin Challenge.
The Mannequin Challenge is a cat herding experiment of getting your friends or coworkers to pose in a mannequin-like position while a videographer sweeps through the room filming people in both mundane and crazy poses.
The key to the Mannequin Challenge is for everyone to stay frozen in time and to film in one take – no cuts!
Some people are doing everyday tasks like sipping on coffee or checking email.
The best shots are when a “mannequin” is captured in what looks like a frozen movement, such as dropping a stack of boxes.
Of course, being Ripley’s, we have a HUGE warehouse to work with, and you will see crazy things like a Hamster vs. Squirrel Foosball game, a make out session with the Creature from the Black Lagoon, and of course, a shrunken head.

Poland’s New Glowing Bike Trail is the Stuff of Dreams
Featured in Ripley's Believe It or Not!
There’s something magical and mysterious about things glowing in the dark. The soft light being swallowed by the surrounding darkness suggests safety in a sea of uncertainty. Glowing often feels magical or otherworldly. Now that feeling is being added to a bike trail in Poland.
Lidzbark Warmiński
Lidzbark Warmiński is a small town in Northern Poland. Inspired by a similar path created by Studio Roosegaarde in the Netherlands, TPA Instytut Badań Technicznych institute decided to bring something special to the small town.
The path, which glows a bright blue in color, was created with the use of phosphor, a substance that absorbs sunlight, and then glows in the dark. This means the bike path will charge in the sun all day long and then will glow for roughly 10 hours each night.
The result is a beautiful sight which also happens to be all natural and won’t drain any of the city’s power.
Studio Roosegaarde’s bike patch in the Netherlands was inspired by Van Gogh’s Starry Night painting, but they used LEDs and some glow in the dark paint.
But Why?
The beauty of the bike lane speaks for itself, but the real reason the city decided to do something so unique was to increase the safety of people traveling at night. A glowing bike trail gives citizens a path that can clearly be seen as well as the ability to be seen by others.
The bike lane is still just being tested before it’s put into place in other areas. Researchers aren’t sure yet just how long it will last before it starts to wear down. Whether the wear comes from traffic or just from a weakening of the materials remains to be seen, but if this glow-in-the-dark bike trail works, it could be coming to a park near you in no time.
