The Difficulty with Earth Dragons
I haven’t written much about Earth Dragons in the Dragonfury Series. Maybe that’s because I’ve only met one—Sloan, a member of the Nightfury dragon pack in Seattle.
I love Sloan. He’s a cool guy, and if you’ve read the books, you know I write about him often. He’s always in the mix, helping out, being a good brother, trolling the dark-net to take out internet predators. Other than that, I don’t know a lot about him. He’s never revealed much to me about his true nature or dragon half.
He’s quiet. He’s cagey. He’s resisted all my attempts to stalk him.
Given recent revelations (and the fact he’s so difficult), however, I thought I’d share what I know about Sloan.
He’s great with computers, prefers to live underground, spends the majority of his time alone, his skills as Myst’s assistant in the Nightfury ER are unparalleled, and a female he loved died along with his newborn son over a decade ago.
In dragon form, Sloan’s even more mysterious. I’ve only seen him in dragon form a couple of times. Still, I know his scales are a dark brown tinted white, green and gold. His tail is tipped with three venomous stingers. His exhale—well, that’s the biggest question mark. I’ve only seen Sloan in action once, and not up close and personal, so the effect his exhale has on other dragons remains, at least for me, an enigma.
Pretty elusive, right? But here’s where things get interesting.
I’m excited to report I’ve met another Earth Dragon. I didn’t expect him. He showed up in the middle of FURY OF PERSUASION. Swaggered in, waltzed right up and delighted me.
Now, I’m fascinated. Not only by him, but by the idea of digging for the truth about Sloan’s dragon half by watching the newest dragon warrior in action. I won’t tell you the mystery Earth Dragon’s name—I’ll save that tidbit for when you read the book—but this guy lands somewhere between wicked cool and raging awesome.
And as you can imagine, I’m watching him closely. Here’s what I’ve learned so far.
Earth dragons are:
• Much larger than a typical Dragonkind male in dragon form.
• Seriously anti-social, and much less likely to join a Dragonkind pack.
• Extremely short-tempered. So much so, they become lethal when even a little annoyed.
• Are able to draw energy directly from the planet (think forests and other plant life), which means they don’t rely on human females as their sole source of nourishment. The upside is an Earth Dragon doesn’t need to feed nearly as often as other Dragonkind males.
That’s all for now, but rest assured—I’m paying close attention to the new guy. He’s providing all kinds of interesting insights, helping me understand Earth Dragons a little bit better.

The New News
Hello and Happy February 1st!
I don’t about you but the first month of a new year is generally a wash for me. I still write. I still manage to knock things off my to-do lists and strive to finish what I start. January 2021 has been no different, but somehow, I feel as though I’ve gotten less done than I should’ve.
Maybe it’s Christmas jet-lag.
Maybe it’s New Year nostalgia.
Or maybe, it’s the dumb deadlines I set that butt up against the holiday season.
Whatever the reason, I never feel like I get any traction until February hits. Then it’s all characters on deck and….blast off!
This year’s been no different.
2020 was hard, I know. The beginning of 2021 hasn’t been a whole lot easier. Everyone has no doubt felt frustrated and uncertain in the time of COVID. We all go through lulls (ups and downs, high and lows), but 2020 was a different animal. It knocked many of us down…more than once. I’ve decided, though, this year (no matter the struggles ahead) will be better. I’m taking heart. I’m tackling February with enthusiasm, because after a year of lockdowns, heartache and worries, but I’m finally back on track.
I’m writing everyday and the words have once again made their way into stories. So, for those of you who’ve been looking for an update, here it is…

Fury of Persuasion (Dragonfury Scotland Book 4) will be released in May 2021.
Fury of Conviction — a Dragonfury short story about Hamersveld (of all guys!) will be released in June 2021. (I know, I know…no one expected this jerk of a Razorback to get his own story, but he’s been talking to me lately. Now, I’m convinced you all need to get to know him better.)
Fury of Destruction (Dragonfury Series, book 7) will be out in the Fall of 2021. This is Gage’s story and the girl he’s chosen for himself is going to rock your world!
Last but not least, I’ve written the first book in a brand new series. When I have news about it, I’ll be sure to let you know.

Happy 2018!
As we start the New Year, I hope you closed out the old one with a bang. I’m not into making New Years resolutions. I’ve learned it’s better for me to make a plan, so I hammer out my goals and write down what I’d like to accomplish in the coming year. I plan out each month and do my best to stick to a writing schedule. It’s the only way I know how to stoke my creative spirit while being as productive a writer as I can.
This year, I’ve got some exciting stuff planned. I am, of course, hard at work writing the newest Dragonfury Novel, FURY OF DESTRUCTION — Gage’s book. I don’t have a firm release date for Fury of Destruction (Dragonfury Series Book 7) yet, but it should be available October-ish, 2018. As soon as I have news and a book cover to share, you’ll be the first to know.
But wait, I’ve got other fun stuff on the go as well. FURY OF ISOLATION (Dragonfury Scotland Series Book 4) will be available in June, 2018. I’m waiting on the book cover (impatiently!
