SNIP, SNIP REVENGE by Medeia Sharif
YA Contemporary, Evernight Teen
Release Date April 25, 2014
Beautiful, confident Tabby Karim has plans for the winter: nab a role in her school’s dramatic production, make the new boy Michael hers, and keep bigoted Heather—with her relentless Ay-rab comments—at bay. When a teacher’s lie and her father’s hastiness rob her of her beautiful hair, her dreams are dashed. The fastest barber in Miami Beach has made her look practically bald.

With all her pretty hair gone, Tabby doesn’t believe she fits the feminine role she’s auditioning for. Michael is still interested in her, but he’s playing it cool. Heather has taken to bullying her online, which is easier to do with Tabby’s ugly haircut. Tabby spearheads Operation Revenge, which proves satisfying until all of her problems deepen. After messing up, she sets to make things right.
Author BioI’m a Kurdish-American author who was born in New York City, and I presently call Miami my home. I received my master’s degree in psychology from Florida Atlantic University. ONE LUCKY NIGHT interview with Melinda Dozier

It's my pleasure to have Melinda join us here today! Be sure to say hello!!

Website: www.melindadozier.comTwitter: www.twitter.com/melindadozierFacebook: www.facebook.com/melindadoz
(Q) I think it’s pretty safe to say that most writers love reading. What are some of the books that influenced you the most? Anything you’d like to recommend?

I’m a huge Jill Shalvis fan and strive to write like her. Her writing is full of quirky characters, funny remarks and a load of sexiness. Check out her Lucky Harbor series, if you haven’t already. I also love her Animal Magnetism series.

(Q) What is your favorite part of the writing process? What about it makes you love it?

I love the start of the writing process, where I get to create my story in my head. My starting point is always my characters. Who do I want my hero to be? Who would my readers enjoy? It’s just fantastic to create a possible book boyfriend. The hero is my favorite!

I hope that readers love Killian Whelan, the youngest brother in One Lucky Night. He was a fun hero to create because he’s the serious one ̶ a paramedic student and part-owner of The Brazen Head. Unlucky for him, he’s forced to wear a kilt during his shift at work. From there, everything turns a little strange on that snowy evening in Boston.

(Q) What’s your biggest pet-peeve when it comes to the writing world? Does anything get under your skin and itch?

Honestly, the writing world has been amazing! It’s hard to nit-pick and find something that’s a pet-peeve. I guess I would have to say the negativity in the business, such as bad reviews with no reason why or without even reading the story in the first place, dishonesty and inconsistencies with publishers making it hard for authors to trust anyone in the business.

For the majority of the time I’m surrounded by nothing but positive and feel truly blessed by the friendships I’ve made and the publishers I’m working with now.

(Q) If you could meet any writer, living or dead, and pick their brain over coffee/tea/hot-chocolate, who would it be? What would be your first question?
Can I say Jill Shalvis, again? Actually, I’d like to have a girl’s night out with Jill Shalvis and Kristin Higgins. Those ladies are a riot when they’re together. My first question would be Channing Tatum or Joe Manganiello?
One night can change everything…
The crew at Boston’s Brazen Head Pub hasn’t been very lucky in love. Can a mysterious visitor inspire them to look past old hurts and misconceptions and give romance a chance? One Lucky Night is a collection of five sexy interwoven novelettes by Aria Kane, Grace Teague, Ana Blaze, Constance Phillips, and Melinda Dozier.
Lucky Break by Aria KaneFour years ago, chef Derek Chase walked out of Andrea Rivera’s life after a tragedy neither of them were prepared to deal with. When she’s called to the Brazen Head to repair a dishwasher, old sparks ignite buried feelings.
Lucky Star by Grace TeagueWhen her life is threatened by a mugger, Charlotte Price realizes she's in love with her best friend, Tommy Leung. The Brazen Head seems like the perfect neutral place to confess her feelings, but nothing goes according to plan.
A New Tune by Ana BlazeWhen it comes to dating, Holly Hall has one unbreakable rule: no musicians. Not even gorgeous ones. Especially not gorgeous ones. Dating them only leads to heartbreak. So why did she let singer-songwriter Cian O’Neill kiss her? And why is she thinking about doing it again?
Lexi’s Chance by Constance PhillipsAs a bartender, Sean Whelan meets all kinds of women every night, but none turn his head the way that Lexi has. She’s been playing cat and mouse with him for weeks. Tonight, Sean’s determined to get Lexi to quit teasing and take a real chance on him.
Drink or Dare by Melinda DozierA bachelorette party Drink or Dare game pairs paramedic students, Rachel Robertson and Killian Whelan, in a flirting match. Soon, the dares threaten to turn their academic rivalry into something much more.

Guest Post by Melissa A. Petresock, author of FIRE OF STARS AND DRAGONS

I love guest posts! Be sure to give Melissa a big shout-out and check out her amazing title, FIRE OR STARS AND DRAGONS!! Doesn't it sound awesome?? I can't wait to read it!

Guest Post: When Fantasy Meets Reality – The World of FOSAD

The question of what inspired FIRE OF STARS AND DRAGONS may possibly be the most common question I receive. It’s a difficult subject since people usually expect it to be some other books I’ve read. Finding out Meradeth wanted me to write a guest post on the world of FOSAD; well, world-building versus story concepts are entirely different lines of questioning. Many people know I used to live in Massachusetts, various places in the years I was there, but I worked in Boston for quite a while. When my husband I started dating, he was living in Watertown, and we moved north of Boston to Reading when we married. To me, there was always something magical about a city in which you could spend the day and walk from such historic sites as the Old North Church and Faneuil Hall right over to the modern day attractions of The Shops at Prudential Center or the Museum of Science. And so the concept our world could be fantastically magical came from a very real place in my mind—a love affair with Boston, Massachusetts. I suppose no one should be at all surprised that in the 22nd century setting of my Stars and Souls Trilogy world, Boston has become the capital city of United Sovereign America. With Boston as my “center”, I built the world out and put my own twists on things I’ve seen before. One reviewer said she doesn’t know how to categorize FIRE OF STARS OF DRAGONS, and there’s a good reason for this. Its world is futuristic, medieval, dystopian, contemporary, fantastical, paranormal, mythological, mysterious, romantic, and dramatic. At times, it’s even bloody. To create the world, I chose which supernatural creatures I wanted involved in my story and started making notes regarding the specifics of their cultures. These beings existed long before humans knew they did, but were aware of each other. They needed their own social norms and inter-species relationships. There would be certain ones who didn’t get along, ones with “axes to grind”, some cultures who might not have agreed with integrating into human society so much, and others who sought power. Every culture would have their influences on the others and certain influences on humanity, even if we never knew it.These were all critical to developing a realistic world in which the story plays out. If the characters didn’t come from the long histories that they do with the influences of their cultures and those surrounding them and the rules of the supernatural world that existed in the shadows of the human world for so long, none of the story’s events would take place as they do.In FIRE OF STARS AND DRAGONS, you will find a vampire king and his family controlling the political atmosphere; shapeshifting dragons as soul readers, passing judgment and either guarding or destroying; and deities influencing our world in both obvious and subtle ways, yet often avoiding the Earthen Realm. There are elves conspiring with those in power with an eye toward settling old debts and Fae remaining as a secluded, peaceful society with a greater impact on the history of the world than anyone ever realized. It is a complicated world intricately woven into the story so as not to bog down the reader with heavy world-building and front-loaded backstory. It is a world inspired by the very real magic found in the history and modern world woven in the streets of Boston, Massachusetts.
Following the death of her uncle, twenty-one-year-old CAITRIONA HAYDEN finds herself in the midst of a trio of quintessential alpha male suitors in 22nd century sovereign America where human females should be seen and not heard.

Theo Pendragon claims her as his ward, ordained to guard her through to a long-awaited destiny unbeknownst to Cait, but finds more than he expected when passion ignites within the dragon for the first time. Always drawn to the pursuit of knowledge rather than the heat of desire, powerful demigod Dante cannot deny everything his future holds in Caitriona. America's monarch, ancient vampire Corrin, has no interest in the frivolity of love, yet marrying Cait could be the answer to his continued survival.
Soon, Cait goes from studying for college exams to choosing a husband knowing the consequences are eternal, the love undying, and the bond timeless. (Goodreads)

Cover Reveal THIS IS SARAH by Ally Malinenko

Ally Malinenko is here today sharing the AWESOME cover for her YA novel, THIS IS SARAH, and giving us a glimpse into her morning. Welcome, Ally!
Thanks! So, here's what my mornings look like.

The alarm goes off at 5 am. No wait, that’s not right. It’s before 5 am. My husband nudges me and I murmur five more minutes, please, just five more minutes burying my head under the blanket. Then June, the tabby cat, starts crying. And not your usual meows – these are ear splitting, I’m-dying-give-me-food-now-you-puny-humans sort of cries. Really intense End of the World Ragnarok sort of stuff.

We stumble up and out of bed. Coffee on. Teapot on. Cat fed. Pee. Computer on. Radio on to classical station. Teapot whistles – oh teapot why must you be so loud!

Then I sit in my closet (literally) and write. Sometimes I write poems or stories, provided I managed to think of an idea since yesterday morning. Most times I go back to the current novel. I read through yesterday’s writing. June comes in. She climbs into the empty comic book box on the floor and curls up to sleep. Good. This lasts seventeen seconds. Then she’s trying to climb into my lap. I give in, reading through yesterday’s writing. She stands on my lap and meows at me. I bend my arms around her to rewrite stuff and wonder how one person can switch tenses that quickly. I catch typos. I fix them.

I write. I put June down. I think about my main character – how angry he is right now facing this pain alone. I put words in his mouth. I read them outloud. I cringe. I delete them. The cat jumps up on my lap again. I finish my tea and make more. I write some new dialogue. I look at the clock. The morning is going too fast. I have to get ready for work soon. I write some more. I check my email again. I put June down. She cries. I delete three paragraphs of what I just wrote. I yawn. I get more tea.

I write. I re-read it. I cringe less. I write more. I re-read it. I skip ahead and jot down notes for a future scene. June cries and jumps back in my lap. My husband comes by, reminds me of what time it is. I squeeze out another page but don’t have time to re-read it. I save my work, shut off the radio and get ready for work. I hope tomorrow morning will be just as good. June meows. She hopes so too.

About the author:Ally Malinenko is the author of the poetry collection, The Wanting Bone (Six Gallery Press), and the children’s novel Lizzy Speare and the Cursed Tomb (Antenna Books). This Is Sarah is her first YA book. Ally lives in Brooklyn with her husband and a very ridiculous tabby cat. She blogs at allymalinenko.com and you can follow her on twitter at @allymalinenko.

About the book:When Colin Leventhal leaned out his bedroom window on the night of May 12th and said goodbye to his girlfriend, he never expected it would be forever. But when Sarah Evans goes missing that night, Colin's world unravels as he is transformed from the boyfriend next door to the main police suspect. Then one year later, at her memorial service, Colin makes a phone call that could change everything. Is it possible that Sarah is still alive? And if so, what is Colin willing to do to bring her back?
And as Colin struggles with this possibility, across the street, Sarah’s little sister Claire learns how to navigate the strange new landscape that is life without her sister. Even as her parent’s fall apart, Claire is determined to keep on going. Even if it kills her.

THIS IS SARAH is a meditation on loss, love, and what it means to say goodbye.

After Reading: THE COLLECTION by Shannon Stoker

Hi everyone! I just want to start off with a MASSIVE thank you to everyone who tweeted, posted to facebook, blogged, and purchased a copy of Surrender the Sky last week. It made my release day so amazing! I don't know what I'd do without the wonderful people I know around the web. You all are awesome!! (Oh, and the review giveaway is still up and running if you're interested in entering!)

How far would you go to control your own destiny?

Mia Morrissey has escaped: America, the Registry, and the role she was raised for— a perfect bride auctioned to the highest bidder. She’s enemy number one to the world’s largest power, and there’s no turning back now.

From the moment she and her friends Andrew, and Carter cross the border into Mexico it becomes clear their troubles are only beginning. The young men are immediately picked up by a violent and omnipotent militia—The Collection—and it’s Mia’s turn to rescue them.
With time running out, her ex-fiancé’s henchman on her trail, and a dangerous tide shifting back in America, Mia will do whatever she has to. Even if that means risking everything and putting herself back on an auction block. The price of freedom is never too high…but what if the cost is her life? (Goodreads)

I reviewed the first one in this series here. I received a copy of this book through LibraryThing in exchange for my honest opinion. And that opinion: I like this series, but the writing kind of bothers me. I noticed this in the first book, The Registry , but in this book it started to grate on me. Maybe it's just my inner editor, but the entirety of this book is telling and not showing. So, I know I can be guilty of this in my own writing, but I do try to avoid it. This book, however, is entirely full of it, which is okay I guess, but makes it hard to really get in touch with the characters, or feel any emotional depth to their experiences. The story is engaging, though deeply disturbing in the way women are treated and thought of, which was interesting enough to keep me reading. I have to admit, though, that I felt like it was far too easy to fall out of the story when I'd stumble across a line that made me want to turn on track-changes. Anyhow, I enjoy the incredibly horrific storyline of these, but I will sample the next book before I buy it, to see if the writing is any more to my liking.
