Go Small to Save Big: the Low-down on Boutique Hotels

When traveling outside of your own country – and sometimes just out of your own city – there is always the question of where to stay. When faced with lists of new restaurants, stores and hotels, it’s sometimes hard not to gravitate toward familiar names that you already frequent, but travel is a great way to break the habit of familiarity and get you out of your immediate comfort zone. That doesn’t mean you’ll be anxious and freaked out the whole time you’re away. Likely, it will be the o...

Infographic: How to Get That Upgrade

Traveling in coach and economy can be cramped and unpleasant. I have short legs and even I feel like I have no space sometimes. With talks of some airlines trying to cram even more seats into planes that aren't getting any bigger, it would be nice to get upgraded to a better seat, wouldn't it? The best I've ever done was to get upgraded to an exit row and also the bulkhead. Perhaps if I traveled alone I would have a better chance of getting upgraded to a fancy first-class seat. If you wan...

Fixes for Common Travel Problems Part 1

When you go on vacation there are some things you just can't avoid. It seems the further you travel the more likely these things become evident, like jet lag, swollen feet and dry skin. After many years of travel, I have learned a lot of things and have yet to master some others. As you know, practice makes perfect, so I decided to pass on some tips to you to help you travel better, too.

Super Useful Travel Posts

Want to win a Pack-Flat Toiletry Kit from Travelon? Enter here!

It’s been a while since I did a round-up of links. I guess I just haven’t found too many interesting things to share that were fun and not depressing, like the travel alert from the U.S. government to international travelers. This week was big for travel things I found amusing, interesting and useful. I hope you find something in here for you as well, or share a link you found lately, too. Happy Friday! Enjoy.

Save By the Pound in London

Don't forget to enter to win a Pack-Flat Toiletry Kit from Travelon

In honor of my trip to London, I have chosen to give you some of my best tips for saving in the city: When choosing a vacation destination, we often decide where to go based on what there is to do there. Those things may be different for different people. Some may go for the food, the museums or theme parks. Still others will go where the shopping is. While London has some of the world’s best shopping, it also is...

Review and Giveaway: Travelon Pack-Flat Toiletry Kit

One of the things I keep packed in my travel bag is a toiletry kit. I easily have extras of things I always use and items specifically for trips – like travel-sized deodorant, samples of makeup primer and a pop-out brush. Last month I reviewed Travelon’s Compact Hanging Toiletry Kit that is perfect for one person or short trips for two, but sometimes you just need to bring more stuff, you know? Maybe you have a family that likes to keep all their products together, like toothbrushes, combs...

Infographic: The Evolution of International Tourism

Statistics show that travelers are spending more money this year and are finally deciding that staying home is boring. Now that we're coming out of the recession a bit, people are trying to break out and plan leisure trips. Our next vacation is the furthest from home we've been in 7 years, so it's even apparent in our household, with all our money-saving ideas and saving plan in place, that we are now confident that spending the money on a large trip like this won't break us.

Delicious Eats in Las Vegas

When we visited Las Vegas in June, we were there to enjoy some free things in the city, watch the NBA Draft with other rabid b-ball fans and see family, but we weren't going to go back and not try to find some yummy (and affordable) food. Even though it seems you can stay fore really cheap on the Strip, food prices feel like they've doubled from a decade ago. I made a point to check out our options before we left and planned our meals and activities accordingly.

It's no secret that V...
