Since promotional work is unavoidable, then it might be fun to try something different. 
 Sometimes the best way to increase sales is to give away one book in the hope that the reader will like it and purchase other works that are available for sale by the author.  Amazon makes this easy to accomplish with their system. Therefore the e-book version of HER HONOR’S BODYGUARD will be free on Amazon this Thursday and Friday which would be June the 28 and the 29.  This novel can be found under the list of novels written by Johnny Ray on his author page on Amazon which located at http://www.amazon.com/Johnny-Ray/e/B0059G01XQ The interesting part of this weekend promotional is a book signing of a different sort. Johnny will be setting up at Wagon Wheel, a large flee market in St Petersburg, Florida. There he will have a large poster which has the QR code on it. After customers purchase his novels online, he will sign a book cover and give it to them. The QR code will be on the large poster, fliers which will be handed out, and of course will be be located on his business cards. The QR code looks like this

     Vance had always been extremely proud of Noella, and just because his life had been ruined, he saw no reason why she had to have the same faith. When his dad died, leaving him and his mother penniless, he dropped out of law school and ended his relationship with Noella, but in doing so, he stopped a scandal that could have ruined her family. These secrets he would never let her know. Ironically, years later, he would have never guessed she would be instrumental in ruining his career with the Tampa police force. 
     After Noella finished law school and started pursuing her goal of working up the ranks in judgeships, she never considered inviting another guy into her life. As such, when someone attempts to threaten her into vacating her seat on the bench, and by force if necessary, she knows of no one else she really trust as much as Vance, who now has a successful bodyguard and private detective business.
     She knows that Vance might hate her for her part in having him dismissed from the police force, but what he will never know is that she actually saved him from going to prison. Additionally, she now thinks he was framed, and perhaps by the same people who are threatening her. She had to talk him into taking her on as a client . . . but would he agree to her request? 
     As the number of attacks on her life increases, Vance soon has no choice but to offer her his protection, and in spite of everything, when they see each other again their old attraction for each other returns. She wants the truth. He wants the truth. However, making the ultimate sacrifice is not always easy to understand, whether given or received. Ultimately . . . could they now trust each other with these secrets? While their lives depend on discovering the truth to their past, these truths are locked in deep secrets that could also destroy them.

WHAT EXACTLY ARE ROMANTIC THRILLERS
     It has always been interesting to me how people want to classify certain books into specific genre. Romantic thrillers is an area that you don;t see many authors promoting their books as such. Why is that? Perhaps because it is how the two elements do not match very well. It is hard  to concentrate on romance when you are also trying to stop a major disaster.     A mystery is where a crime has been committed and the story which follows tries to determine the who did it.  A suspense is where the outcome is unknown and the tension increases through out the book. It is the thriller that has events jumping up and down throughout the novel that lead to a final outcome of stopping the disaster form happening.     I have seen many movies that are romantic thriller, but not so many books. My quest over the next few weeks is to try to understand why. I hope you will join me in the quest to understand the romantic thriller better.     for now, I hope you enjoy the video below that discuss the merger of the two very well.

I think all writers know how important it is to have characters come alive and become as real as possible on the printed page. But readers can tell in a second when a character is not authentic and does something out of character. This often happens when the writer has an opinion of the character and has not prepared the reader properly. Many times it comes from trying to make the story more interesting for the reader.

You have to know your character when you write. This includes knowing what they would and would not do, or what they are capable of doing. For example, you would not expect a New Yorker who has never been out of the city to suddenly be a bull rider in Texas. This is totally different from the New Yorker who suddenly inherits a ranch in Texas and has to go there to see what he/she now owns. Taking characters out of their comfort zone is what makes a story interesting, but leaving them in their own personality and as who they are builds credibility.

When a writer builds character sketches or outline of characters, it is important to know what they would do in a situation. It is nice to know something the character would never in their lifetime expect to do. The fun part for a writer is to place that same character in a situation where they have to do the unthinkable.

Another part of building a great story is giving the reader small tidbits of who the character is early. If the character is to suddenly run a marathon for example, then the reader needs to see that the character loves to run earlier in the novel and not have it given as a surprise at the end of the book. Another example is where she is capable of defending herself because of her martial art training, but nothing was said about that for the last three hundred pages, and especially if she is being abducted and had been acting like a weakling for most of them.

Many times in a novel, the characters evolve, but it is up to the writer to make changes to the story to make it realistic and interesting for the reader.
