The Black Out Hits

As the lights go out, Jayce finds himself acting violently. What’s happening inside him? Why are all the electronics dead? The world is changing faster than anyone planned.

What is that in the sky? New Technology?

Virtual Exploration | Dark Swarm Excerpt

Though his butt was firmly in the seat of the sub, Jayce’s essence, his mind’s eye raced through the information like it was a garden full of colorful explosions of data. The Internet was a place, a bazar full of information and faceless, nameless peddlers. Images of people whizzed by, happy, joyful expressions, blogs and vlogs full of chit chat, a rainbow of emotions. But Jayce turned from them. He needed to find Payne and knew the man would not be found in the annals of joy and self-expression. Instead, Jayce moved into the dark corners. His body tensed as he passed brutal imagery, posts full of hate and peddlers of fear. The deeper his mind traveled into the dark of the Internet the larger the space became, blossoming into a mini galaxy of misery.

Splitting his mind into a dozen paths, Jayce searched directories and blogs and articles and even found portals to surveillance cameras that the government posted on every corner. Jayce could even see into people’s homes, through unprotected webcams, into search and purchase histories. Humanity on the shelf. Jayce could see what everyone did and it made him feel sick.

He almost gave up, but there was Payne.

The Fight | Dark Swarm Excerpt

The Fight illustraion in Dark Swarm

Jayce folded over and gasped. He couldn’t breathe…he…needed…his…inhaler. William pulled Jayce up, slamming him into the electrical box.

Pain blew up Jayce’s nerved like a nuclear bomb went off. He twisted, pulling his arms up and sunk into a ball. William dropped too, one hand still gripping Jayce’s shirt.

“Come on! Fight back you coward!” William yelled. “I wanna god-damn challenge!” He punched again, connecting with the back of Jayce’s head.

Jayce’s tears flowed as he sobbed. He shook inside, vibrated with adrenaline. Then his tears stopped, his body stilled. The electrical box was two inches from his face. Anger filled his every cell. He didn’t want to fight back. He just wanted William dead. Without even thinking about it, Jayce snapped his arm back and punched the electric panel with more power than he ever thought possible. A metallic ring sounded out as Jayce’s fist slammed through the green metal covering–fist sinking into the fuses underneath. Electricity burst from the power lines like lightning, flooding the narrow passage with light. Lightning sizzled and popped, flowing around Jayce like tornado winds.

What happens? Stay tuned. The night is coming, the crazies are growing an army…

The Cube is Found | Dark Swarm Excerpt

Contrary to his intentions, Jayce picked up the cube, admiring its surface, weight, and sharp edges. He touched one of the perfect ninety-degree corners. The pattern changed in an instant, feeding lights toward his fingers. So epic. He turned the object over and over. Every time he placed his fingers on a different part, the lights would follow. Just like that Tesla ball in Mr. Y’s class. Only, the lights were square like pixilated art.

As Jayce turned his hand over, he noticed a few small black bugs crawling on his thumb. Startled, he dropped the cube and shook his hand. He hated bugs of all sorts. “Eew. Off, off, off.” A sharp pain stung his thumb. The bug bit me! “Awe! Shit!” Jayce flapped his hand some more in a panic. If he’d have waved his hand any faster, he’d have taken flight.

Jayce cautiously inspected his thumb. Thankfully, the bugs were gone and there was no obvious bite. “I should have figured William’s house was infested. He deserves bedbugs more than anyone.” Jayce picked up the cube off the floor, but his attention was taken back to his hand. It went numb! He didn’t know of any bugs that small that were poisonous. He assumed he would die by some dumb accident like walking across the street and getting smashed by a bus because he was distracted. Or a piano would fall on his head as he strolled by a construction site. Something lame. A bug bite would qualify.

Little Giant | A New Children’s Book By Anderson Atlas

My next distraction from Dark Swarm has been a children’s book. I sometimes need breaks from my sci-if because it’s such a huge project. I’m also going to be going to a book fair in Chicago and I needed to get this product done so I have something new and exciting to share.

This children’s book is called Little Giant. It’s about a giant that likes little things. One day while exploring a vast mountain range he finds a village of normal sized humans. Chaos ensues and Bebba the Little Giant does not know how to get out of this sticky situation without destroying the human village. Can he do it? Can he find home?

Below are a couple of spreads of the new book. If you know anyone that would love to read this book forward this post to them.

Update on the Gigantic Sculpture

I’ve been hard at work sculpting the gigantic knight in shining armor. It’s been a fantastic experience and I still haven’t even touched a drop of paint. The sculpting part was really engaging and fun. Now all I have left is to seal up the defects and extra cut marks with some sealant and brush the urethane coating over the whole thing so I can paint it. That parts going to be really fun but a different kind of fun. It will be challenging too. #sculpture #SculptureArtist #KnightAndShiningArmor #foamsculpture
