September is for Sequels: Giveaway Hop

Welcome to my stop on the September is for Sequels giveaway hop hosted by Lisa Loves Literature and I Am A Reader, Not A Writer. I really like Lisa's goal to read sequels in September. Much like her, I've started a lot of series that I haven't had time to finish. So this month, I'm going to catch up some them. I'll let you know how I did at the end of the month.

The rules of this hop are simple: giveaway a book in a series, can't be the first one, but it can be any number from 2 on. I have an autographed copy of Hold Tight, book two in my Embrace Series, up for grabs. Good luck!

If you haven't read EMBRACE yet? Last I check it was still only 99. cents on Amazon and  Barnes & Noble

New Release: HOLD TIGHT, book two in Embrace Series

After months of revising, organizing, and preparing HOLD TIGHT is now available, and I couldn't be more excited. I'd like to thank Omnific Publishing and the entire HT Team for all their hard work in getting this book ready for today.

What's one little spell?
When you’re new to magic, one spell can be the difference between getting what you want...and ruining the lives of everyone you love.
Sixteen-year-old Madison has just embraced her magical powers. The trick now is learning how to control them. She and her boyfriend -and fellow witch- can’t even enjoy a simple kiss without getting shocked when their powers collide. Instead of mastering her new skills, though, Madison is stuck watching her kid brother and doing chores.
But being a witch does have its benefits. With a simple spell, Madison instantly conjures the help she needs around the house. Or so she thinks. Her idea of “help” invites trouble of its own as a pair of dangerous yet enticing beings enter her life. When a classmate disappears soon afterwards, Madison discovers she's the next victim of a threat she's powerless to resist...and there’s nothing it won’t kill to make her surrender.
Caught in the crossfire between two dashing but deadly creatures, Madison must figure out which one to trust and how to rid her world of the other—before one of them destroys her and everyone she cares about.

A Dream for the low price of your soul

One dream coming right up, and all it will cost is the low, low price of your soul.
I can hear the collective intake of breaths and see the shaking of heads. I’m with you, but it does pose an interesting question—would you make a deal with the devil to achieve power or success for a delimited term?

This question came up a lot when I was writing Embrace and Hold Tight. I think the answer would depend on the price. So let’s say, for argument sakes, you can have whatever you most desire for one night of your time. Sort of like they did in the 1993 movie Indecent Proposal.
Would you give up a night of your life?
What if the stakes were higher and a deal cost you years off your total lifespan. Say you wanted to become the best blues guitarist this side of the Mississippi River—maybe that would cost you ten years. If you wanted wealth, twenty.
That might be tempting. Become a NYT bestselling author and all it cost me is ten years off the top. Hmm…
Probably still not worth it, but tempting.
Or maybe instead of taking years like poker chips, you’re granted years to live. Ask to be the youngest person to become president of the United States and get ten years to live: two to campaign, eight to serve, and then your time is up. Advance immediately to the top of a Fortune 500 company, fifteen years to live. Possess magical powers, twenty-five years.
Would you make the deal?

What if it doesn't matter what you ask for. The price is the same no matter what you desire—power and success can be yours for ten years, and at the end of that time your debt comes due, like what is done in the television series Supernatural.

Of course, time does fly and before you know it someone or something will be knocking down your door to collect their fee, which in this case would be your soul.
I think it’s easy to say no to most of those scenarios, but what if you were making the deal to save the life of a loved one. The deal isn’t for personal gain, but to give another person a second chance to live.
Would you?
Find out what Madison Riley does in Hold Tight. Available August 20th.

No Rest for the Wicked

The first Wednesday brings with it IWSG. Thanks Alex Cavanaugh for hosting this great meme. Want to learn more about it, click here

July and August have been busy months for me. Work has been hectic. That can be good and bad, but when you add that to trying to get ready for a book release it sort of makes things crazy. And while there are plenty of things for me to stress over -- like I don't have my bookmarks, yet, and every time I check something off my To-do list I add two more things that need to get done -- I just don't have the time to worry. What will be will be, right? So I'm focusing on what I can control, which means I need to keep this post short, but before I go I'd like to share a few things with you...

You can find out why I'd want to be a detour over at Author Turf. I know you're curious.

And my publisher uploaded the Hold Tight book trailer to YouTube. So exciting!

And there are a few giveaways going on...

Interview with Rachel Schieffelbein

Today I'm chatting with Rachel Schieffelbein, author of Secondary Characters, a young adult novella.

SECONDARY CHARACTERSby Rachel Schieffelbein
Synopsis:When Mabel's best friend, Amber, drags her along on a double date she finds herself falling for Lance, the obnoxious class clown whom she swore she'd have no interest in. The only problem is, she's not sure if she's really the girl Lance is into, or if, like every other guy she knows, it's really Amber he's after. One thing is clear, if Mabel wants to be the lead in her own love story, she needs to start acting like it.

Please help me welcome Rachel.
Cherie: Tell us about your novella, Secondary Characters, in your own words. Rachel: It’s the story of Mabel, a girl who feels like the side-kick for her best friend, Amber. She’s gotten it in her head that Amber’s the star of the show, so when she falls for Lance she’s worried that it’s really Amber he’s interested in.
Cherie:  I think Mabel’s insecurity is one lot of girls will be able to relate. Can you tell us what is your writing process is like? Rachel:  I have four little kids, so I write in small bursts when there are quiet moments. J Then I revise, revise, revise. I have some wonderful critique partners, without whom my writing would stink.
Cherie:  I bet your kids keep you busy! And I agree, great critique partners are wonderful to have. Where did you get the idea for your novel?Rachel:  I heard a song from a musical titled, Secondary Characters. It’s about two people who take over the stage while the leads are busy elsewhere. It got me thinking about what it would be like to feel like a secondary character in your own life.
Cherie:  That’s so interesting, and you came up with a great story. What was your favorite (or most difficult) chapter to write?Rachel:  The novella has dual points of view, and writing from Lance’s POV was both fun and challenging. I had to try and think like a teenage boy. Fortunately my husband’s mentality is not that different from a teenage boy’s, that helped. ;)
Cherie:  Too funny! I always want to know more about great characters. Can you share with us something about Lance that we don’t learn about him from reading the book?Rachel:  Lance is a music lover. He listens to music to energize himself, or to calm down, help himself think, whatever. There’s a song for every mood. J
Cherie:  Nice! What are you working on now?Rachel:  I’m working on another YA novella that is set at a horse show. I’ve shown Arabian horses for many years and the big Youth Nationals show that takes place every summer seemed like a perfect setting for a young adult story.
Cherie:  That’s sounds intriguing. Now that we know about your book and you as a writer, I have some fun questions for you. Do you believe in love at first sight?Rachel:  Sort of. I’m not sure you can call it love right away, but certainly the beginning of it. I knew my husband would be the person I’d marry after three days. I know that sounds nuts, but I just knew. We’ve been married almost ten years now.
Cherie:  Congrats! Who are you drawn to the good guy or the bad guy?Rachel:  I go for the good guy. They can still be exciting and fun, and they will treat you right.
Cherie:  If you had all the money and time in the world, where would your dream vacation be?Rachel:  I want to go to England and see the town my grandparents lived in before they moved to the US.
Cherie:  Favorite movie or television show?Rachel:  Favorite movie ever is The Princess Bride.  For Cherie:  What book are you the most excited to read?Rachel:  Cassie Mae’s How to Date a Nerd. It’s such a fun premise and everything I’ve read by her has been amazing.
Thanks for being with us today!
If can find Secondary Character’s on Amazon or Barnes & Noble.
