Gabriel “The Scholar“ Kane
A former top-tier assassin known for his precise and emotionless kills, Gabriel has traded his silenced pistol for the role of a high school history teacher in a small, unassuming town. Despite his deadly skill set, Gabriel is surprisingly quirky.
He’s an obsessive collector of vintage globes, which are scattered all around his small home, each marking places he’s been—both for pleasure and for work. He also has an unusual fondness for tea cozies, which he insists make his morning tea taste better.
Gabriel often mutters historical quotes under his breath during tense situations, as if channeling wisdom from the past to navigate the present. His students think of him as the eccentric but brilliant teacher who somehow knows way too much about ancient battle tactics, while his neighbors view him as the polite but slightly odd gentleman who always seems to know when trouble is brewing.
Haunted by his past, he’s determined to live a quiet, uneventful life, but beneath his calm exterior lies a tightly coiled spring, ready to snap into action when his loved ones are threatened. When his former handler leaves him a cryptic message, Gabriel is forced to once again don the mantle of the assassin—this time to protect those he’s come to care about.
The ScholarThe Scholar is the first book in the Retired Assassins' Club.

Meet the Characters: Serena “The Widow” Marchand
The Widow
Serena “The Widow” Marchand
Background: A French ex-assassin known for her deadly use of poisons, Serena now runs a vineyard in Provence, France. She’s left behind her dangerous past, trading venomous potions for vintages, and maintaining a serene, controlled life.
Skills: Poisons, stealth, manipulation. Serena’s methodical approach to assassination contrasts with Gabriel’s more physical and tactical methods.
Quirks: Serena is elegant and charming but has a dangerous edge that emerges when threatened. She often plays the enigmatic hostess but is fiercely protective of her new life and independence.
Serena receives a black widow spider in the mail—a symbol from her past as "The Widow." This is a message from Le Poète, a master poisoner she once spared during a mission. Le Poète has returned for revenge and is working within the larger conspiracy targeting retired operatives.
The Widow is the second book in the Retired Assassins' Club
