MURDER IN MOE

An extract:

Martin lunged forward, grabbed the gunman’s wrist and pushed his gun hand up and away, but the other man didn’t relinquish his grip. As the two men struggled, Martin saw the second gunman step around the front of the Honda.

'Fuck!' Martin realised he’d overestimated his abilities. He would be dead in seconds, his body left on the side of a country highway. 'Claire doesn’t know where I am, and she’ll worry herself sick.' Although he struggled with the man whose wrist he held, he couldn’t disarm him.

MURDER IN MOE

An extract:

As Martin’s Honda emerged from the roundabout at Anderson, the presence of a black vehicle looming large in his rear view mirror pulled him from his musings. Having paid no attention to traffic since leaving Wonthaggi, he suddenly developed an interest. Now an SUV tailgated him, almost close enough to touch his rear bumper.

'Here we go!' Martin gripped the steering wheel tighter.

MURDER IN MOE

An extract from Chapter 7:

Martin extracted his phone and glanced around the room, glad he owned a new model with built-in camera. The other occupants had their heads lowered. No one displayed any interest in him. The receptionist had her back to him as she continued serving other clients. About to photograph the document, he lifted it and discovered divorce papers beneath. Below that lay another certificate of marriage. Julia had remarried thirty years ago to a Frank Isaacs, a section manager employed by BHP.

MURDER IN MOE

An extract from Chapter 6:

#mystery #supernatural #crime #thriller #suspense #horror #Moe #murder

'Something’s definitely up. I’m sure of it.'

Deep down, Claire knew his evasiveness didn’t involve another woman. Martin had slipped up twice with the same woman in the past, but neither time had it been his fault. Wanda Jean, a witch with incredible powers had wanted him to father her child. What Wanda Jean desired, she got. She’d beguiled Martin and bedded him. Last time, Martin had thought her dead. Not knowing Wanda Jean had played a devilish trick on him, he’d succumbed to her charms.

Martin took his leave. Outside in the car park, he breathed a sigh of relief as he started his car and headed towards the freeway and Melbourne.

'That could have gone a whole lot worse.' The detectives hadn’t asked to take his fingerprints, nor had they requested a DNA sample, which meant they had nothing to link him or anyone else to the crime scene.

MURDER IN MOE

An extract from Chapter 4:

#mystery #supernatural #crime #thriller #suspense #horror #Moe #murder

Martin pocketed the phone and pondered whether he’d found a solid clue to a case he and Claire had been investigating for almost two years. All over the country, children had disappeared, in almost all cases never to be seen again. Remains found in England had been DNA tested, confirming the identity of one of those children. So far, they’d discovered only that someone with deep pockets was kidnapping children and selling them overseas.

An extract from Chapter 3:

“Look, Dale,” said Martin, pointing to the logo displayed at the bottom of his ID, “I work for ASIO.” He allowed time for the implications of that to sink in. “I could get a warrant, but when I returned I’d be accompanied by a whole slew of agents who would swarm all over this place. They’d have to close you down for the day, and when they searched the place, they might just find your stash and then they’d have to arrest you. Neither of us wants that, now, do we?

MURDER IN MOE

An extract from Chapter 2:

#mystery #supernatural #crime #thriller #suspense #horror #Moe #murder

'Martin! Wake up, Martin! Wake up! You’re in danger!' The voice reverberated inside his skull. Martin groaned and tried to open his eyes. They refused to cooperate. A spider strutted across the inside of his brain, set up house and built a network of webbing linking one thought to another.
'Martin! You’ve been drugged! You must fight it and wake up! The police are on their way!' More spiders joined the first.

MURDER IN MOE

An extract from Chapter 1:

#mystery #supernatural #crime #thriller #suspense #horror #Moe #murder

“Hello,” she said.
Martin looked up from his coffee and smiled at the woman standing before him. Of around his age, she wore a bright red dress that seemed to add a shine to the grey in her hair. She didn’t seem familiar, but something about her intense stare prevented him from ignoring her.
“Hello,” he said. “Do I know you?” For a moment or two, his tiredness left him, and he appraised the woman, trying to place her.
“If you’re who I think you are, then yes,” the stranger said, her generous mouth creasing in a smile.
He took another sip of coffee and raised an eyebrow. “And who do you think I am?”
“Someone I used to go to school with.”
