I have written serial fiction for newspapers, magazines, and online. This is the first I've written for Amazon Kindle. I'm enjoying the experience and have received a lot of positive feedback and encouragement by email.
Writing serial fiction is different than writing a novel, and in some ways, a lot more difficult. With a novel, once a reader has purchased the novel, the reader can read ahead or skip the boring parts. (hopefully, those have been edited from the final copy)
With a serial, each episode has to grab and entice the reader or the reader simply quits reading and/or buying the story. The story must keep the interest high without becoming plot heavy, which is the downfall of most serial stories.
I'll be giving a presentation on "Writing the Serial Novel" at Tyler's Romance Writers of America on Saturday, April 20th.
