MMGM Links (3/20/17)
No updates this week, so I'll get right to MMGM!
If you would like to join in the MMGM fun, all you have to do is blog about a middle grade book you love on a Monday (contests, author interviews and whatnot also count--but are most definitely not required) and email me the title of the book you're featuring and a link to your blog at SWMessenger (at) hotmail (dot) com. (Make sure you put MMGM or Marvelous Middle Grade Monday in the subject line so it gets sorted accurately--and please don't forget to say what book you're featuring) You MUST email me your link by Sunday evening in order to be included in the list of links for the coming Monday. (usually before 11pm PST is safe--but if I'm traveling it can vary. When in doubt, send early!) (Also make sure the post you send me is a new post, not one from earlier in the week. I try to keep the content fresh)
If you miss the cutoff, you are welcome to add your link in the comments on this post so people can find you, but I will not have time to update the post. Same goes for typos/errors on my part. And... I guess that's it. I'm not even sure if any of you are bothering to read this or if you've already scrolled up to stare at the amazingness. BUT, in case you are reading it, I'm going to end with a super-important plea: PLEASE help me keep this website spoiler free.
I *know* you're going to want to leave comments speculating about what you think might be happening. But PLEASE make sure that if you do that, what you say doesn't give away any spoilers for the previous books. (And no, putting something like *SPOILERS BELOW* and then including a ton of spoilers doesn't make it okay.) I'm not trying to be mean--I just have to be fair to all of my readers, and there are many who are excited to see the cover even though they're still catching up on reading the books.
If you want to have spoiler-y discussions, please do it on your own instagrams/tumblrs/goodreads groups/blogs, etc. This website is a No-Spoiler Zone. So I *will* have my assistant delete any comments that include even the slightest hint of a spoiler. Thank you in advance for being the awesome, respectful readers I know you can be.
And now, I'd better get back to writing the book!!! November 7th isn't that far away!!!!!

~ Yes, as I said above: that is Sophie, Linh, and Keefe on the cover
~ Yes, this is the third time that Keefe has been on a cover.
~ Team Keefe (or any of the other teams, really) should *not* read anything into that.
~ Yes, I realize that some of the other characters haven't been on as many covers.
~ No, that doesn't mean I don't love those characters just as much.
~ Which characters end up on the cover is dictated by the scene that gets chosen, and in this case, the scene that was chosen happens to be a moment with Sophie, Keefe, and Linh. It's as simple as that.
~ Also, who doesn't want a cover with a giant water-ball on it? I'm pretty sure the answer is, "no one."
~ Yes, everyone who isn't shown on the cover will definitely be in the book as much as I can possibly squeeze them in.
~ No, I will not tell you anything else about what's happening in the scene, or anything else about the plot of the book.
~ Yes, I am--in fact--still writing the book. But don't worry, this scene will for sure be in there. :)
~ And no, I really really really can't tell you what's happening in this scene (so please don't ask). All I can do is share the official flap copy again, in case you missed it when I posted this a few weeks back:

MMGM Links (2/20/17)
As usual, I have a couple of quick updates before I get to the links, about a couple of things I have coming up on my events calendar. I'll be at the Tucson Festival of books in early March, and they've finally given me my festival schedule. So if you're planning on being there, here's where you can find me:
Also, for all you middle grade writers out there, I'll be part of the faculty for a special middle-grade writing retreat in Sapphire, North Carolina on October 4-8th, 2017. The other author teaching along with me will be the amazing Carrie Ryan, and it's going to be SO MUCH FUN. For information on the rates or to register (and FYI, I hear these retreats book up FAST so if you're interested, you might want to jump on that) go HERE for the retreat's main website.
And I know those updates may lead some of you to ask me about other upcoming events, and the truth is, my calendar is going to be fairly light this year. I *will* be touring for NIGHTFALL--and no, I don't know which cities I'll be touring to, yet (and remember, my publisher chooses the cities, not me!). And I do have a few scattered festivals I'll be hitting throughout the year. But I have a LOT of writing and revising to do, so I'm trying to manage my time to focus on that.

And I know those updates may lead some of you to ask me about other upcoming events, and the truth is, my calendar is going to be fairly light this year. I *will* be touring for NIGHTFALL--and no, I don't know which cities I'll be touring to, yet (and remember, my publisher chooses the cities, not me!). And I do have a few scattered festivals I'll be hitting throughout the year. But I have a LOT of writing and revising to do, so I'm trying to manage my time to focus on that.

One quick update before I get to the links--in case you missed this on my social media. It looks like NIGHTFALL is available for pre-order now on amazon* (it'll be available on other websites soon--amazon is always the first for some reason, don't ask me why). It does have the current release date (which *is* subject to change, since I'm still writing the book. But hopefully not). And it has a brief plot description!
I may still be writing the book (writing as fast as I possibly can, I promise!) but I have the plot carefully planned out, so I was able to write the official summary (and I did my best to keep it free of LODESTAR spoilers, in case you haven't gotten there yet). MMGM Links (1/30/17)
Okay, first: I know I'm getting LOTS of emails and tweets and comments from you guys asking when I'll be revealing the title of KEEPER 6, and the cover, and when the official release date will be, etc, etc, etc. (LOVE the enthusiasm, by the way).
But the truth is ... I don't know.
The cover art isn't done. I've seen rough comps (and no, I can't tell you anything about them, other than that I LOVE them) but the artist is still finishing the piece. So I have no idea when the final cover will be ready.
And the release date is hard to know because I'm still writing the book.
As for the title--that I will hopefully be able to share soon. I've already been given permission by my publisher. But the thing is... there have been so many huge things going on in the world lately--things that have many people feeling either upset or scared or confused--that it feels a bit insensitive to be like, "by the way--here's my new book title!" So I'm kind of waiting for a moment when it won't feel so shameless to share that kind of news. Not totally sure when that will be, but hopefully soon. In the meantime, thank you guys so much for your patience.
Anyway, those are the only updates I have for now. On to the MMGM links!

If you would like to join in the MMGM fun, all you have to do is blog about a middle grade book you love on a Monday (contests, author interviews and whatnot also count--but are most definitely not required) and email me the title of the book you're featuring and a link to your blog at SWMessenger (at) hotmail (dot) com. (Make sure you put MMGM or Marvelous Middle Grade Monday in the subject line so it gets sorted accurately--and please don't forget to say what book you're featuring) You MUST email me your link by Sunday evening in order to be included in the list of links for the coming Monday. (usually before 11pm PST is safe--but if I'm traveling it can vary. When in doubt, send early!) (Also make sure the post you send me is a new post, not one from earlier in the week. I try to keep the content fresh)If you miss the cutoff, you are welcome to add your link in the comments on this post so people can find you, but I will not have time to update the post. Same goes for typos/errors on my part. I do my best to build the links correctly, but sometimes deadline-brain gets the best of me, and I'm sorry if it does. For those wondering why I don't use a Linky-widget instead, it's a simple matter of internet safety. The only way I can ensure that all the links lead to safe, appropriate places for someone of any age is if I build them myself. It's not a perfect system, but it allows me to keep better control.
