Cause and Effect – My Strange Afflictions, Part 2

Continued from Cause and Effect – My Strange Afflictions, Part 1

I was so disgusted with my family physician (I’d been with her for 15 years) that I went to her when I made it home, got a year’s worth of refills for the beta-blocker and never saw her again. We moved down to Florida permanently in August 2004. A few weeks later, I got a job as a cashier at Cracker Barrel. I’d always wanted to work there (I’m a people person :-) ), but the stress on my back from standing on my feet for 8 or more ho...

Cause and Effect – My Strange Afflictions, Part 1

Obviously, I’ve been on an emotional roller coaster for a long time due to some weird, rare things going wrong in my body. I’m telling my story now because I’ve shared it with very few people and there is an explanation for my oft-times erratic thought processes. My close family and two or three very dear friends know all of it, but I didn’t want to be one of those who bores others to death with every single one of their health woes. I do hope that by my telling, anyone who has medical issues...

I’m Sorry, But That’s All She Wrote :-(

It’s been months since I’ve been here and I feel compelled to explain my absence. I haven’t been well for the longest time. Years, in fact. It makes thinking very difficult. I have no idea how I managed to write three complete novels and get two published. At this point, I’m not even capable of reading. I can’t concentrate on the words. How sad is that?. :-(

I have reached one conclusion. My writing was not as good as I thought it was. After all, I was rejected over 70 times by literary agents –...

Chicken with Artichokes & Sundried Tomatoes

I made this last night for supper and it was SO good I ate some of the leftovers for lunch and again at supper this evening. If I weren’t so stuffed, I’d go back for more!

Here’s my modified version of Guy Fieri’s recipe. He stuffed the breasts with the artichokes and sundried tomatoes, but Iwas in a hurry the first time I made it and took a few short cuts. This dish isso amazing that it’s quickly become one of my family’s favorites and I even made it for a dinner party while visiting family u...

Revolution Review

*SPOILER ALERT* *SPOILER ALERT* *SPOILER ALERT*

Revolution is a new scifi series on NBC. The pilot episode aired last Monday at 10/9c. If you’ve not heard of it, or didn’t see it you can check out the trailer here or watch the pilot here.

In short, all the power in the world has gone out – even batteries. Fifteen years later, there are small “hamlets” where people have banded together to survive. Apparently there are many militias operating around the world, the big one in the former U.S. is th...

Cottage Pie vs. Shepherd’s Pie: Is There a Difference?

I decided to make my version of Shepherd’s Pie for supper this evening, so I thought now would be a good time to kick off my new feature, Lis’Anne in the Kitchen. I originally posted this on April 21, 2011 on Chicklets in the Kitchen – that place where I hang out with friends and blog about kitcheny stuff. :-)

As I was preparing to write up how I make Shepherd’s Pie, my innate curiosity about the history of the dish got the better of me and I ended up spending a good 3 hours doing research. If y...

Sadly, Utterly Abandoned Mansions

I’ve got this thing for abandoned abodes. It’s so sad to see what once was a magnificent home now forlorn and decaying. I imagine the joys and sorrows the occupants experienced within the walls. Cheery fires in the fireplaces, nourishing meals cooked in the kitchens, books read by the light of newly glazed windows. How many toddler feet stomped up and down the halls? Christmases, Thanksgivings, and Easters shared with family and friends in the dining rooms, and games played in the parlors. Wh...

Mini Surf Report ~ Richard III, J.A. Konrath, & the Vikings

No, they have nothing in common other than there’s something about each of them on this one page. ;-)

Coming soon! As most of you know, I’m one of the Chicklets on Chicklets in the Kitchen. I love to cook/bake and love sharing recipes. I thought it would be fun to share some of my favorites over here on occasion.

Now on to the mini surf report:

‘Strong evidence’ Richard III’s body has been found – with a curved spine

Archaeologists searching under a city centre car park for the lost grave of King R...

Kickstarter Project by Lis’Anne

Hello Family, Friends, and Followers,

I’m about to launch a Kickstarter project and I hope you will support me in this exciting endeavor.

Kickstarter is a funding platform for creative projects.

At this very second, thousands of people are checking out projects on Kickstarter. They’re rallying around their friends’ ideas, backing projects from people they’ve long admired, and discovering things that make them laugh and smile.

Every project is independently crafted, put to all-or-nothing funding,...

For the Love of History (and other interesting tidbits)

Best of History Websites

Whenever I’m in research mode I use a variety of sources. If I can’t find exactly what I need in the history books on my shelves, I turn to the Internet. Sometimes specific searches yield zero hits because the historical documents haven’t been transcribed and uploaded. Today, I simply typed “history” into the google search field and this site came up. I’ve hit the mother lode!
