MY FELLOW READERS,

As an author for the readers, you look to me each week to keep up with all things new to add to your TBR.

As of late, I’ve started posting more of this information on other outlets. My fellow readers, I know we aren’t seeing everything that we’d like to on social media outlets. Instead of seeing our favorite author’s new releases, we get daunted with other ads and vaguebooks.

New Release Endorsements and Deals Week of 3/23/18

 

My Fellow Readers,

Usually, you look to me, an author for the readers, on Super Tuesday for new releases.

While I try and keep up with all of the new releases, with so many authors releasing on every other day of the week, I wanted to make sure that we truly are making reading great again and getting all of these new releases as well as special deals.

Vernon Family Movie Night: Star Wars

 

Some say that Disney taking over the Star Wars franchise ruined it. I say, “If my kid can take Jedi classes at Disney next year, I’m all for it.”

Now I wanted to start watching Star Wars in the order they were released but Twothy wanted to go in chronological order, thus we had to start with the prequels. (Spoiler alert, wasn’t a fan).

 

 

The menu again was Weight Watchers friendly and the only thing I actually enjoyed eating was the Obi-Wan kabobies (Wah wah). My review on the Weight Watchers pasta? If you like chewy, smelly things, it’s for you. If not, take the points and go with whole wheat pasta or zoodles.

The gruyere rolls were supposed to be round like Princess Leia’s buns and as you can see those didn’t turn out. But, hey, they tasted better than the pasta at least!

You can see here the roll recipe and how they were actually supposed to look. But honestly, for the points and the time it took to make them, I’d skip it and go for something else.

The pasta, while simple enough, again I think it might have been better with zoodles or some whole wheat pasta. Aka no one wanted seconds.

The Obi-Wan Kabobies were simple enough that my kids could make them with kabob sticks and fruit that I put in separate bowls for them to put together.

 

And of course who can resist dipping pretzel rods into melted colored chocolate ?

I bought the rods from Kroger ($1 a bag) then picked out pink and green melting chocolate from Michaels (2 for $5) and melted in mugs according to the directions so they were easier to dip

 

 

And after dessert, it was time for some activities! Unfortunately it wasn’t warm enough for stargazing, so instead, I printed out these figures, cut them with my Cricut, and we taped them onto leftover kabob sticks to have a shadow puppet show!

 

And of course, everyone’s favorite part, the glow stick lightsaber battle. We put on The Imperial March, then wrapped some aluminum foil at the end of our glow sticks. Unfortunately, I  bought these glow sticks at the end of the summer on sale so they weren’t all glowy, but hey it’s the thought that counts, right? And at least we enjoyed the battle more than the movie.

Family Movie Nights – Beauty And The Beast

 

I’ve posted some photos in various groups, but never went into detail about the new family tradition of movie night.

One of the things I’ve been trying to do this year is to do more activities with my family and find things we can all enjoy. We are also heading to Disney in 2019 and I’ve seen a lot of Pinterest posts about Disney Family Movie nights with a countdown to Disney.

So in the ultimate challenge, I decided to start doing family movie nights as our countdown to Disney, but make everything Weight Watchers friendly.

Let’s start with our first family movie night: Beauty And The Beast (the new Live Action one, which is on Netflix).

 

 

There was a lot of singing as I created this menu (now try reading it without singing)

For the hot Hors d’Oervers (still can’t pronounce it), we decided on an oldie but goodie Weight Watchers recipe of cut up chicken wrapped in crescent rolls with honey mustard to dip it in (Two bites were two points!) 

 

The crockpot french onion soup, while I liked the taste of it, made everything smell like onions for forever. But was an easy recipe (After I chopped all the onions) and put it in the crockpot with beef broth and chicken brother. Started the crockpot at 7 am before my meeting that morning and we had dinner at five. Well, okay Twothy and I ate it with some mozzarella cheese and the girls scoffed.

Cheese Souflee was actually cloud bread that I’m not even going to show a picture of because it basically looked like a flat egg. This was before I discovered the magic of two-ingredient bread. Next time I’d prefer just to have that with some melted Kraft cheese (the one thats 0 points for 1/4 cup!)

The grey stuff was a favorite to make and eat. This was basically crushed up oreo thins, sugar-free vanilla pudding mix, milk, and whipped cream, all mixed together. Then we chilled it for a few hours and put in little pastry shells (better without it honestly).

Then, of course, the activities. I wanted to make stained glass roses, so I took some freezer paper and taped it onto computer paper before printing out a rose coloring sheet. We colored the roses with markers then peeled the freezer paper off the computer paper. When we put it on the door it looked like a beautifully stained glass masterpiece (or as beautiful as a kid can do).

New Release Endorsements 2/20/18

 

My Fellow Readers,

As you sit there, looking at your reading device, whether it be a phone, a computer, an e-reader, or a hologram, do you think about how often we stare at these screens? How often we take time away from our days to check what our friends are doing or mindlessly taking Buzzfeed quizzes?

For 2018, I, an author for the readers, have vowed to #makereadinggreatagain and have started getting at least one new release a week and have been reading. My goal was to read one book a month, but there have been so many new releases I’ve already surpassed that tenfold (and it’s only February).

On a personal note, I was also lucky to be picked up by a publisher in 2017 and my first book was published with Entangled this week. While working with them and other authors in the company, I felt the camaraderie that I thought I was missing for so long in publishing. I started reading more of their books and discovering other authors as well that really made reading great again for me.

So I urge you, my fellow readers, instead of getting angry with each other. Let’s pick up a book. Let’s share new releases. Let’s talk about how much we love books and authors!

New Release Endorsements 2-5-18

My Fellow Readers,

 

Another election Tuesday is upon us today.

Some of you will be in the voting lines at your location election headquarters. Some of you didn’t even know there was an election today.

And some, like me, will wonder why you didn’t volunteer at these local election events that usually don’t have a crowd, so you can sit and read some of these new releases virtually uninterrupted.

For those who didn’t think that far ahead, have no fear, there will be plenty of time to read some of these fabulous new releases.
