An Insider's Look to the Villains
My favorite characters in my books are often times my villains. As you know, my all time favorite character is Alma, but right behind her from DEMONS ARE JACKASSES is Sven.
Originally, he was a cookie cutter character. *shakes head* I needed someone who was perfectly evil with a side of sadistic who was impervious to normal methods of banishment and/or death.
But I needed Malika who's the direct descendent of the witch that originally trapped the Guardian demon. But with Malika came a boyfriend and at that point, I had quite a triangle!
What the reader doesn't know is that off camera, there's a lot of interaction. In some of the previous books, there were scenes with the three of them and they were fantastic!
Ufortunately, due to the main plot line, I didn't really have space for them and the got whacked! But! I had FUN writing those scenes with my evil-evil villains living a not so evil life. LOL!

Finding Alma
Alma has ALWAYS been one of my favorite characters. Honestly, I’ve been carrying her around with me for years. Whenever I need grounded, I find myself in her kitchen, her gnarled fingers grasping a coffee cup, her gravely voice pulling my head out of my butt.
LOL!
I love Alma.
When I decided to give Paige to a family of witches and then when I decided I was going to break Paige, I knew I needed to give her Alma.
Alma doesn’t take crap from ANYone! She’s the biggest, baddest witch that ever grew a garden and drew the eye of a gnewt. LOL! She grew up as a witch out of the closet during a time when being a witch was a really, really bad thing; when people thought it was perfectly okay to “save a soul”, and didn’t think twice about going too far.
Into adulthood, lots of doors were closed to her. She’d go into a grocery store, and everyone would leave. Granted, shopping without the crowds on Christmas Eve is a great thing when you’ve forgotten the butter, but when they’re hiding their children behind them and whispering about how you’re the whore of the devil, even having the ability to clear the crowds wasn’t very helpful.
Her mother killed herself when Alma was about ten, leaving her to be raised by her dad. He was fantastic, well-grounded, a real champ. He just wasn’t a great cook. I think that’s the reason she became Goddess of the Kitchen – both cooking and baking. I’m not kidding when I say that when I attempt something new in the kitchen, she’s my Google.
Learning magick without her mother was both good and bad. Unfortunately, she messed up a few times and sometimes, things went really, really, really bad. That’s how she developed so much character. She’s the one who said that you don’t gain character by doing great things. You get it by fucking it all up.
Yeah. *chuckle* She’s awesome. I can’t wait for you to meet her. And you can do so in the first book of the Demon Talker Novels, Demons Are Jackasses available for pre-order….now.

Who's Jackie?
Jackie is the car!
Moreover, Jackie is Dexx’s car.
Now, for those of you who are fans of Supernatural, please understand that Jackie and Dexx came first! It just took me this long to get the book published.
I always loved the 1970 Dodge Challenger. Jackie, however, is burgandy because Dexx doesn’t like following the crowd. He did his own paint job.
He found Jackie when he was in college. He was bored and needed something to do and his English teacher told him to build a car. Well, Dexx didn’t know anything about building one, he’d just seen how easy it apparently was on TV, so he decided to try his hand at.
As Jackie developed from scrap into a lean mean purring machine, Dexx decided that he liked working cars a heck of a lot more than he liked college. He was never going to do much with his business degree anyway. So he quit and worked on restoring old cars.
That is, of course, until his brother committed suicide trying to get rid of the demon possessing him.
And that’s how Dexx became to be a Demon Hunter.
I will say that I wish I had picked a bigger car, one with four doors. When you’re trying to cram unconscious bodies into the back, even having the ridiculously long doors isn’t quite enough. There’s a lot of grunting and wedging and thumping of heads. *shakes head* Generally not good.
