I am feeling rather like both of these folks over to the right:
Here’s the rundown:

Over at GeekMom, I interview Campbell-Award Winning author Mur Lafferty, and she said amazing things.

Teenage Mutant Ninja Chefs: Cooking the Books with E.C. Myers
E.C. Myers is the mild-mannered superhero behind the award-winning YA alternate universe duology: Fair Coin and Quantum Coin. We lured him to Cooking the Books with a peanut-butter laden trap, and while we have him in our power, we’ll ask him about the kinds of food found in speculative young adult fiction. From pizza and french fries, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtle cooking to Master Chef, and more eclectic offerings on the menu, join us as E.C. fires up the stove for our latest Cooking the Book...

Unbound: Authors in the Classroom
School’s back in session, and I’ve been talking with friends about the relationship between authors and education (Especially in light of banned books week.). I haven’t done a tools-of-the-trade post in a while, and I thought we could look at the positive side of school visits – what works and why.
I’ve been on all three sides of school author visits – as a teacher, as a writer-in-the-schools, and as a student. Meeting authors and hearing them talk about what inspired them, and then having the...

August – October Reading & TBR
New books! Shiny stories! I acquired two Books of Size at the July KGB Fantastic Fiction reading, and they are wonderful. And I finally finished the nonfiction summer read – was entirely worth it too. Lots of travel this summer, which meant lots of reading time.
What have you been reading?
Here are some of mine – both book-sized and short stories. The short stories were particularly plentiful and amazing this summer.
Novels (Read, In Process, TBR) ~ Where possible, I’ll link to where I obtained...

Why I Run (Slow)

In Zombies Run, I’m food. Know what? That’s ok.
My friends Kyle and Kelly wrote about why they run after The Oatmeal comic on the same topic a couple months ago. I wrote something too, but I didn’t post it. I’m not always comfortable talking about physical stuff. I’d rather talk about flying. Or sailing.
Kelly says post it. And it is good to listen to Kelly. So, here we go.
I don’t run far*, and I don’t run all that fast. That’s ok.
When I was a toddler my feet pointed inward so much that I not o...

Now I Can Finally Tell You…
Last October, I wrote about my novel, Bone Arrow, as part of the Next Big Thing meme. I alluded to the story and the world in October 2011, as part of a post called The Thing. You see, Bone Arrow began as part of a story written during a 1-day challenge at a workshop called Viable Paradise. From the very beginning, there have been bone towers, wings, secrets, and dangers. There have been fierce young women and men who lived their lives above the clouds. When the story was read aloud to the wr...

Libations in Literature: Cooking the Books with Laura Anne Gilman
Author Laura Anne Gilman visits Cooking the Books armed with a diet coke, a mug of coffee, and… if we go past 5pm, and you’re of age, a few tips on how to make a perfect gin and tonic.
She’s here to discuss libations in literature. The topic is particularly apt: Laura Anne is not only a connoisseur of fine wines and beverages, but also the author of the Vineart War and the Gin & Tonic mystery series as well. There’s also a lot of caffeine in her Cosa Nostradamus series, as well as other works,...

See You at LoneStarCon
LoneStarCon 2013 is ten days away and people are starting to post their schedules. I’ll do the same, below. Wow this looks to be amazing. So many panels and events I want to go to!
Last year was my first WorldCon and it was wonderful. My friend Kelly (and her alter-ego Klagor) helped document everything by photobombing most of my pictures. Looking through them now, it’s like Where’s Waldo, but better, with surprise Kelly.

My first WorldCon panel – Food and Science Fiction – with bonus Klagor (...
