The Nan Stories
Hello there, Goodreads friends,
I've been working on a new novel--a ghost story with other supernatural elements, set in coastal Maine--which I'm hoping to get finished with soon. But in the meantime, I'd like to share with you another project I'm working on: a collection of linked short stories I'm calling "The Nan Stories," as each revolves around a young woman named Nan who moves from rural Vermont to NYC to start college in the wake of her older brother's death. I've written 8 Nan stories so far, three of which have been published (another forthcoming this fall in Narrative magazine). If you'd like to check them out, I've posted the published stories on my Fictionaut profile:
"Nan" is the first story in the series, originally published in Post Road. "Country House" is the third story, originally published in ReDivider.
"Forgiveness," the fifth story was originally published in Guernica, and nominated for a Pushcart Prize last year.
The second story, "Liars," will be out this fall in Narrative.

Thanks for reading and I look forward to your thoughts.
Sincerely,
Nathaniel Bellows

Interview with PEN America and PEN Ten
I recently did an interview for PEN America's PEN Ten series:
"“Collective” or otherwise, I think art, as a pursuit, has a place and purpose in the “public” sphere. There are few other known forces in the world that can provide such comfort, solace, provocation, humility, inspiration, arousal, wonder, and self-discovery."

Ghost Story: Writer's Cottage
This is long overdue but I've been unable to post this until now--my story "Writer's Cottage," which is a ghost story set in Maine and was published last year in Narrative Magazine. Hope you all enjoy it.
