Lightning Review - 11/22/63 by Stephen King

"On November 22, 1963, three shots rang out in Dallas, President Kennedy died, and the world changed. What if you could change it back?"
Pared down synopsis: A man travels back in time in an effort to change prior events, including the assassination of president John F. Kennedy.
Description (from Amazon.com and rather spoilery): "Jake Epping is a thirty-five-year-old high school English teacher in Lisbon Falls, Maine, who makes extra money teaching adults in the GED...

Reading Challenges for 2012
Yeah, it's a month away still, but I've signed up for two reading challenges for the new year.
One is
.
The goal is to read books from your personal "To Be Read" pile (books you already own and haven't gotten around to reading). I'm setting my personal goals at 15 new authors and 40 TBR. I'm sure there will be some crossover ...

New song of the week (even though the last one was posted way more than a week ago). This guy opened for Graham Colton at Stubb's in Austin - he's pretty awesome, and this song is a lot of fun.

I had a real 'duh' moment today. I was sitting at my computer, fiddling around on Facebook and whatnot, and I kept thinking, "I want to write, but I'm just not feeling it." This had been going on, off and on, most of the day. And then I remembered my recent FB post about 'Everything You Are' and how that song inspires me to write.
Let me tell you, I felt dumb. I had the means of motivating myself to write, but I hadn't had the good sense to take ten seconds to queue up a song guaranteed t...

Hindsight and Inspiration
If someone had told me five years ago that going on a Caribbean cruise would be a life-altering event, I would have suggested they go and Google a good shrink. And when my best friend, co-conspirator, and travel companion told me that she had a feeling that our Jamaican cruise was going to change our lives, I figured it was just some strange bit of wishful thinking. Shame on me for doubting.
I'm not even sure what it was that first made me want to jump on a cruise ship. I've always loved...

Lightning Review - The Hunger Games Trilogy
The Hunger Games, Catching Fire, and MockingJay by Suzanne Collins.
Synopsis (for book one only, as the synopses for later books contain spoilers for book one):
In the ruins of a place once known as North America lies the nation of Panem, a shining Capitol surrounded by twelve outlying districts. Long ago the districts waged war on the Capitol and were defeated. As part of the surrender terms, each district agreed to send one boy and one girl to appear in an annual televised event called, "The...
New Feature - Lightning Reviews
What is a 'lightning review'? This is what I've chosen to call the brief reviews I will be posting to this blog. Rather than going into great detail and possibly 'spoiling' books, my reviews will be quick overviews to give a basic idea of what to expect. I will include a synopsis/book jacket blurb, title, author, a rating, and a few notes on the book.
Many sites use a 5 star rating system. I'm going to make mine go up to 6, with the understanding that only 1 book in 1,000 will EVER earn a ...

New song of the week :)
Just found out this song was recorded by Gary Allan. Although that's a good version, I like this one. Jace Everett may be known primarily as a songwriter, but he has an amazing voice.

New song of the week - "There Comes a Time" by indie artist Graham Colton. If you like what you hear, scoot on over to his Facebook fan page, give him a 'like' and listen to some more songs, and most of all buy his music!
