Call Out - Chapter One Preview
Chapter One
From all around me came the sounds of battle: the dull thump of mace on shield, the jingling of chain mail armor, the heavier clank of full plate, the rhythmic chanting of wizards and healers casting their spells. Somewhere in the chaos my brothers-in-arms – my friends – threw themselves into the fight, working to press the enemy back, away from the fortress we were foresworn to defend. I had no time to spare a thought for my friends as I moved to square off against an opponent, a...

Chapter One
“For the last time, I am not calling my agency “Hollywood Knights!”
Lori, the newest and youngest addition to my circle of friends, pretended to pout. “Aw, Jenny. You’re no fun!”
“Blow me.”
“Not even if you had the right equipment,” Lori said.
I rolled my eyes and shoved the last bite of my garlic breadstick in my mouth so I wouldn’t say anything I’d regret later.
When I’d announced my intentions to move my consulting and investigations agency from Florida to L.A., where I’d been living...

Kickstarter - Smoke and Mirrors
I’ve been very fortunate when it comes to the indie publishing game. I have a lot of great, talented friends who’ve been willing to work for free or trade services so that I could get my stories out into the world. Now that I’ve been in the biz for a while, I figured it was time to try something new: actually paying people for the services I’ve been trading for. Ergo, Kickstarter.
Kickstarter, for those who don’t know, is a crowdfunding concept especially for cre...

Restaurant Review for The Wandering Texans
Cross-posting of a restaurant review I wrote for a new blog called The Wandering Texans.
http://thewanderingtexans.wordpress.com/
Medicinal Purposes is a bar and grill located on the eastern end of Galveston Island near theUniversity of TexasMedical Branch. Unlike many of the restaurants and bars in Galveston, Medicinal Purposes – or MPs, as they call it – boasts it’s own large parking lot.
Inside, MPs is spacious and comfortable. The decor is eclectic and a bit eccentric – think med school me...

To Run Out Of Air - first chapter preview
Chapter One
I watched as he crept toward the cellar door, quiet as a mouse, his Glock at the ready. He stood to one side of the doorway and pushed, easing the door open. Nothing happened. He slipped one hand through the opening and felt for a light switch. After scrabbling for what seemed like forever, he found it and snapped the cellar light on. A snarling, slavering mass of fur exploded from the darkness…
… just as Seth’s doorbell rang, pulling me out of my book and scaring the...

Advice for Aspiring/New Writers
I haven’t posted a blog update in forever. There are a lot of reasons for this that I won’t go into. However, I’m back! At least for the moment. :)
Advice for Aspiring/New Writers
It seems like every time a writer is interviewed, he or she is asked, “What advice would you give to new or aspiring writers?”
There are as many different answers to this as there are writers, of course. One very popular one is “read.” Some say you need to read critically, th...
