40% of Friends Lie

Remember when you were like 8 and crossing your fingers behind your back meant it was "ok" to lie.

Then we grew up and learned lying is wrong and stopped doing it. Right?

Well according to Professor Jeff Hancock at Cornell University it looks like almost 40% of us are still lying.

According to his research almost 40% of the population is happy to lie to their friends.

37% lie on the telephone
27% lie face-to-face
21% lie on text messages
14% lie on emails

His research suggests that the ability of having written records prove the smaller percent on emails versus telephone conversations.

Call me an optimist but I don't believe that 1 out of 3 of my friends lies to me when we are together. What do you think?

Do we lie this much to those around us? Is it ever "ok" to lie? What about if the lie prevents someone from being hurt?

Let me know what you think.

Fall Pumpkin Mask

"Every leaf speaks bliss to me,
Fluttering from the autumn tree."
Emily Bronte

I LOVE Fall!

I love everything about it. The cooler nights, the anticipation of holidays coming, the crisp smell in the air; yes I love it all.

Fall is a great time to slow down and catch your breath. It is a great time to put a little "self-care" into action just for you.

When was the last time you did something for yourself? Something that made you feel good, lifted your spirits and recharged your batteries (and no taking the kids to see The Lion King doesn't count). When was the last time you put yourself at the top of your "to-do" list?

Putting yourself first might seem like a strange thing to do, but everybody feels the rewards when you do. Honoring yourself is the greatest gift you can give someone else. Try taking
15 minutes and give this great Natural Pumpkin Mask a go.

Natural Pumpkin Mask

2 Tbsp. cooked pumpkin
1 Tbsp. honey

Mix together and apply to face leaving on 10-15 minutes. Rinse with warm water and pat dry. This is a great moisturizer, has lots of Vitamin A and C that will condition and protect your skin with antioxidants.

Remember, it doesn't have to be a big ticket item to practice "self-care" it just needs to be something special for you. What are some ways that you can slow down and enjoy the fall season?

Made Me Smile

One of those days!

You know the kind. It starts with over sleeping. This leads to rushing and spilling hot coffee on you, the floor, and the cat. Next comes trying to recoup the "over slept" time by driving faster only to hit every light and ending up being late to your appointment anyway.

Yep, that's how my Thursday started.

Not one of my most stellar mornings, but I was in for a surprise that made me smile and made the rest of the day fabulous.

In my rush to get out the door in the morning I didn't have a chance to look at my email (instead I was mopping up spilt coffee and apologizing to the cat). Returning home a few hours later I parked myself in front of my computer and opened my email.

Junk, delete, junk, junk, delete, delete, save to read later, and then there it was...surprise! I opened an amazingly sweet email from a friend.

My friend wrote to thank me and let me know how much she appreciated me. In less than 70 words my friend was able to change my perspecitve of my day.

One simple email made my day and made me smile.

This is a great example of friendship at its best. Taking time to say "thanks" and letting a friend know how much you appreciate them. No rhyme or reason just an email because.

When was the last time you let a friend know that you appreciated their friendship?

You have the ability to make your friend smile and all it takes is just a few minutes of your time. So, who are you going to make smile today?

Friendship or Acquaintance

I'm at a place in my life where I want real friendships.

I don't want more acquaintances that you talk with and see every few months here and there. I want real, authentic friendships.

How do I define acquaintance you ask. I see my hairdresser every 5 weeks to get my hair cut. If I see my hairdresser more often than I see, email, or talk with a person than they go into my acquaintance group.

Being an acquaintance is not a bad thing per say, it is just that I am looking for more depth in my friendships. I just need to figure out who is looking for the same type of friendships that I am. I want to invest my time, energy, and talents with friends but which ones?

Maybe it's not that hard really. What if I just contacted "said acquaintance" and say, "Hey, we haven't spent much time together lately, but I would really like to develop our friendship more and wondered how you feel about that?"

Is asking how and where we fit into each others lives rude?

It's not like I am going to throw all these people into "the lost friends" pit. I am just not going to spend so much time and effort connecting with them if they don't want more connection. Does that make any sense?

What are your thoughts and ideas for all the acquaintances in your life. Where do they fit into your friendship life?
