Last Friday 3 C’s!

Best Buds
Side note: My husband gets B-man ready for bed, which means his pajamas almost never match.

Cares:
Labor Day is upon us. Which means summer is over and so is my summer blogging schedule.

Today will be the last of Friday 3 C’s. I hope you’ve enjoyed reading and enjoyed sharing. I’ve loved the little glimpses into your lives.

I’ll be taking Labor Day off to enjoy time with the family and will resume regular posting on Wednesday.

But I’m going to change things up a bit. My attempt to stay re...

Praying Scripture

Lately, I’ve been hunting for those bits of scripture that translate directly into prayers.

Because sometimes I can’t find the right words.

For me. For others.

And there’s something really powerful about kneeling down and making God’s Word the cry of our hearts.

Here are a few of my favorites:

Create in me a pure heart, O God, and renew a steadfast spirit within me.
~Psalm 51:10

Search me, O God, and know my heart. Test me and know my anxious thoughts. Point out anything in me that offends you and l...

Does Your Novel Have a Measuring Stick?

It’s been awhile since I’ve found a craft book that has energized my writing.

That’s not to say I’m an expert (ha, ha!) and have nothing new to learn (ha, ha, HA!). Very far from it. It’s just that many of the craft books I’ve picked up lately seem to say the same thing, only in a different way.

Until I picked upWired for Story: The Writer’s Guide to Using Brain Science to Hook Readers from the Very First Sentence, by Lisa Cron. I highly recommend this one, writers.

I love how throughout the boo...

Friday 3 C’s

How is it Friday already!?

Low key week here in the Ganshert household.

No concerns (except for a lost pair of glasses). No big celebrations. Just some good old fashioned fun.

We went to the zoo.

We went to the pool.

I worked on line edits.

I love how relaxing the tail end of summer has been in my little corner of the universe.

Let’s Talk: What are your cares, concerns, and celebrations? How’s the end of summer been treating you?

Bible Study Plan

Is it just me, or is something wrong with this picture?

Yet how often am I guilty of turning God’s Word into another item on my to-do list?

Read two chapters in Samuel.

Check.

Next task please.

I might underline a verse. I might even think on a passage for a bit. But so much goes unprocessed.

Which is why I love SPEAK.

Maybe it’s the teacher in me, but a good acronym makes me smile and I have to say, this one’s my fave.

SPEAK is a way to take Bible reading off the to-do list and turn it into somethin...

Sparking Your Creativity

For the past year, maybe even two, my creativity has resembled a dried up well. Writers all around me would talk about the story ideas crowding inside their heads while I silently panicked. Because my head felt like an empty cavern.

Here’s the thing.

When creative people who thrive on creativity feel fresh out of ideas, it’s not a comfortable feeling.

Thankfully, creativity–like everything else in life–comes in seasons. We all experience winters.

Mine just happened to come once I started writing...

Friday 3 C’s

Cares:
There are so many reasons why I love that picture up there. But one of the biggest is the story shining through it.

Meet my gorgeous friend, Holly, and her handsome husband, Joel. Not only did they walk through the dark valley of infertility, their adoption fell through. In the midst of the heartache, Holly was able to minister to a woman contemplating abortion in a way she never could have had she not spent so many years longing for a baby. That woman chose life for her child. And later...

Waiting….

We were put on the referral list in mid May.

We’ve been told it takes about six months for a family to receive a referral.

So we most likely have another few months of waiting ahead of us.

But it could happen anytime, really. It’s possible to get a referral tomorrow.

Regardless of when, one day, we will get a phone call followed by an email and that’ll be it….our child. This faceless nameless child we’ve been praying for.

We’ll have a picture and name and a background.

Maybe a little girl. Or a litt...

What Happens at an Author Retreat?

You’re greeted like this. Which, I must say, is pretty hard to beat as far as greetings go. Awesome sign, awesome lady.

You eat a lot of this. Which, I must say, is pretty fabulous as far as food goes. Fancy food, fancy flan.

You meet the people who brought your baby to life. People who make you feel welcomed and supported and valued (and very well fed).

You make Shamy sandwiches (the one and only Shannon Marchese and Amy Haddock) which are the best kind.

You get to know (and laugh with) a wonder...

Friday 3 C’s

B-man with his dinosaur claw hunting for raptors (we haven’t found any yet)

Cares:
Ryan goes back to work next week. I’m glad he’s all better, but I’ll miss having him at home!

Mrs. Mommy Booknerd is giving away 2 copies of my debut novel on her blog. So if you’re a fan of FREE stuff, hop on over and enter.

Our adoption agency has a blog. Cool, huh?

Concerns:
Tipsy (our beta fish) has been acting a little tipsy, if ya know what I mean. Not sure how long she’s going to last. Brogan keeps saying, “Sh...
